The Rotten Records edit of “Sound of Silence” had one of my favourite bass riffs of 2020. I’d strongly reccomend checking this out on  Bandcamp along with the rest of their releases!

I used to loop the riff in my DJ sets as an intro starting with LFO’s classic vocal “This is going to make you Freak” making my fist venture into 3 CDJ mixing by throwing Armando’s (RIP) “151 Terrace Mix” over it giving it an awesome pitched down acid vibe. Though someone did once say they were waiting for LFO to drop. My vision was the idea that the live edit would make you freak. Classic DJ overthinking (🙃).

I played with editing them together in ableton but it wasn’t the same as my warping skills aren’t the best and it just didn’t have the same feel at home in front of a laptop. So I’ve been playing around with making my own acid line and sculpting some sounds to create my own edit for some time now. Wondering if I should bother and if it was ok to post it etc. 

Anyway I thought id take a chance as being in a good state of creative flow recently. Staying true to the advice of Greg Wilson  who said “When doing an edit just use your favourite parts of the track and make it your own.” I kept it simple. 

Hope you all enjoy. Any issue from the label or artist please let me know and I’ll take it down. This is just a passion project and for personal pleasure only. I honestly hope you enjoy the vibe. I know it’s cliché but I think Weatherall (who got me into DJing in 2000 at the tender age of 16) would have got the vibe. Hope others do to ✌️

Experimental sounds with no formal structure using experimental sound sculpture and rhythms to create an interesting cross between random trap kicks, pitch shifting synths and ambient electronica. 

Worth a go if looking for something a bit different. Strangely soothing lows frequencies whilst also hitting an almost cringey chord in the high end.

A test for the ears some may say but oddly addictive.

Valesuchi is a producer who we have kept a close eye on for a while now – the Chilean artist has released some stellar leftfield house and techno, drawing upon Latin influences and channeling a proper DIY sensibility.

We are talking rough drums, dusty pads, grungey acid and everything in between.

Based in Rio De Janeiro we felt now would be a fitting time to feature her in our series after she reached out and sent us her new album – which is as riotous and intriguing as they come. A proper journey through weird soundscapes and analogue dreams.

This mix showcases her versatility as a DJ, a proper masterclass in movement between style, genre and pace. All with a no holds barred undercurrent which keeps things very fresh and very interesting.

Bleaching Agent: The 'Altered Currents' Mix

In the age of over-information and over-exposure what control do we have over our public persona? It's all about the personality, all about our profile, incessant, endless posts to every medium we can lay our hands on.

After 25 years of DJing around the world,  the catchily title |-...-.|  seems like they've had enough of all that and switched to the exact opposite and put together a project with no real name, no real public persona or much else besides. But it's been getting noticed by the right people - Joe Muggs featured them twice in Bandcamp Daily this year, and their latest album "Deliveroo Studio Séances" is the piece that really caught our ear.

"This is all about music being judged on its merit rather than ego or identity, transcending the audiences potential preconceptions and focusing on a sonic and visual journey. "

The sound pulls from various places - you can hear bits of Aphex Twin, Burial, Daft Punk, and Weatherall in there. It's genre-fluid stuff that doesn't fit neatly into boxes, which is probably why the likes of Trevor Jackson and Prosumer have been supportive.

The whole anonymous angle means the music has to speak for itself, which it seems to be doing. So it feels kind of counterintuitive to ask them any questions for this rather tasty mix they've put together of original material, intermingled with other beauties. But we'll do it anyway, hey.
