After a beautiful sunset on top of the hay bales, Opal Festival began.
I had fun capturing the energy of the dancefloor and then gently easing it into a smoother vibe.
It was truly a wonderful night.

For years it has been a dream of mine to play a sunrise at a desert burn. I knew leading up to and during Nowhere that this year it wasn't going to be possible for me as these slots are some of the most sought after by professional artists and usually taken well in advance. Fast forward to Thursday night... Our camps event manager and dear friend says to me "The person playing couldn't make it, would you like to play the sunrise in a couple hours?"  My heart sank, I didn't know how to react, I just hugged him while holding back tears and said "F*ck yes lets do it." When I arrived to begin playing it was dark and the dancefloor was completely empty which at the time gave me some comfort knowing I'll be playing just for myself and as I had no time to prepare I was definitely nervous. A minute or two in and some people began to arrive smiling and slowly moving, 10/15 minutes later my friend comes to me and says the biggest sound camp (And our neighbors) had a power outage. The darkness started to change into dim light and slowly more and people start to arrive with big smiles on their face, this crowd became big enough for people distant in the desert to see that there was something going on at our camp and then from a far I could see more and more people heading over with the sun beginning to rise behind them. Before I knew it I had the biggest crowd I have ever played for moving in front of me. I remember the moment turning around to see so many friends and love ones from my camp dancing on the rooftop of the shipping container behind me with the light in their eyes, People were laughing, people were crying and we all became one as the first rays of the Friday sun began shining.

Thank you to my camp members from Costume Camp, Thank you everyone who came and danced and thank you to our event manager *You know who you are ;)
