The Upload

We visited a friend from Benin in the South of Germany who is an avid collector of Nigerian Funk, Ghanaian Yoruba, Jùjú and High-Life.  "Ti koro nko agyina" compiles records from this visit and also a trip to Ghana during which we were lucky enough to meet some of the artists behind the records involved and had interesting and important conversations about how to bring this music into a European context without appropriating or re-contextualising it in a wrong way. The records you hear in this mix are what was left after hours and days of exchange and conversation - a collective compilation of sorts, not of the rarest stuff out there, but instead of what everyone could agree on was fun :)

Optimo Music launches a new digital label; Optimo Music Digital Danceforce, or just plain Digital Danceforce for simplicity. As the turnaround on getting vinyl made was getting ever longer, I wanted an outlet that could be a lot leaner and meaner and get releases out in a far faster amount of time. Some of these may end up being vinyl releases if there is a demand but they will be launched to the world as digital only.

First up is four tracks of sleazy, psyched-out electronics from Belgium’s Strapontin. Self-described as Cold disco, slow techno, queer thoughts, it was instantly falling in love with these that led to the decision to get these out to the world ASAP. Tried and tested. Dancefloor action guaranteed.

Optimo Music Digital Danceforce 002 - Noo - Just Can't Give It Up EP

We have been hooked on Kokk N Roll's recipes for a while now.  Jonas, a professional cook from Norway, contra posits the Norwegian stereotype with a deeply entrenched spiciness - seemingly the common thread in most of his life's aspects. For 5918mins., he delivers an hour of deeply emotional psychedelic excursions into the realms of voodoo, witchcraft and outer body spirituality. Thus he describes the process of making this mix:

"I felt like my soul was on fire when i started making this mix and after a while i entered a complete "tranced out" state of mind, driven by the drums and edge of the psychedelic elements. I call the mix "You can't fake the blues!". Basically it's a mix of psych'd out sounds from Asia, Latin America and Africa with that special blue vibe to it. 
- Music is a medicine, let me be your doctor."

Road To Yuzu

Road To Yuzu originates from a long drive to the east of Holland. I was on my way to a place called Yuzu after a long day in the studio, where I was stuck in an old flow and sound. I found myself re-evaluating this flow and it felt like I was ready for something new. This drive somewhat changed the sound I wanted to focus on, giving me new energy and inspiration. Road to Yuzu, a melancholic driven breakbeat track, represents this turning point. 


Phasing In

The acid elements characterize the over-rushed society we live in, where we forget to stand still at times. The kalimba percussion and synthesizers represents the opposite; feeling grounded and conscious. With Phasing in, I tried to combine these feelings to express the contradiction of the two.


Anxious World

The last track of the EP starts with dreamy synths slowly evolving into a heavy leading bass with breakbeat elements. The short didgeridoo cuts and the use of the old Yamaha SY22 synthesizer rounded up the track.


Alteration EP 

With the three tracks taken together I tried to give an output on all different thoughts going on in the studio while making music. I’m always in search to keep the balance between dancefloor movement and calmness. It’s a process where everything is subject to change and alteration.

Our first contributor from Amsterdam and in this new year 2019, is none other than the infamous Robert Bergman. You may know Robert through his label "Brew", or his contributions to BAKK001 alongside Legowelt or the Dekmantel Label. To us, his mixtape for The Trilogy Tapes is the stuff of legends. 

Robert is not only a mean selector who can strike a perfect balance between Digger-Nuggets and Gnarly Bangers, but he is also a connoisseur of both beer and moustaches (as we've gathered). All of this is suggestive of the fact that he is the perfect DJ and an all-around class A geezer.

For 5918mins. Robert gives us a personal insight into his Weekend-Playlist - which we are more than happy about. We suggest you crack open a cold one and lean back for perfect enjoyment. Cheers!

While the fact that he plays the most oddball of Italo, Synth-Pop and New Wave tracks might seem surprising, the coupling of music and religion is not at all unusual of course (both transcending the boundaries of our natural world). After incredibly contributions to Sanpo Disco and Dream Chimney amongst others, he has agreed to share his energy once again.

JAZ compiles a vast amount of music from the USA, Sweden, UK, France, Germany, Japan, Austria, Italy, Uraguay, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Greece, South Africa, Netherlands, Belgium, Brazil, Canada (over 45 tracks) which he has been amending for a while but could not record due to a move. (Hence the hibernation)
