Serendipity is a wonderful thing, and when we looked ahead in the guestmix calendar, a certain number jumped out. 303. A number synonymous with the roots of house music, which presented itself with a (somewhat obvious) opportunity to get an old friend into the series... a man who saw it all unfold before his very eyes in the 90's, and who himself excels with the execution of mixes with an underlying concept. 

Welcome to JD Twitch's ode to the Roland 303.

"The Roland 303 is a little silver box of electronics that accidentally produced the squelching sound that became the foundation of Acid House. Pioneered circa 1987 in Chicago, Acid House exploded around the world and that sound spread through electronic music creating myriad variants.

Fundamentally the 303 is instantly recognisable by its squelch sound. This squelch can be euphoric, hypnotic, joyous, uplifting, sad, dark, cheesy, silly, scary, ridiculous, psychedelic, beautiful and anthemic. This mix aims to showcase many of these shades of the squelch. It is not the greatest hits of the 303, nor is it a collection of wilfully obscure forgotten 303 jams, it's just simply a paean to the majesty and never ending sonic possibilities of the squelch. Viva Acid!"

'Dreaming Daisies' retrospective/tribute show recorded live on the Three D radio show 'Raw Like Sushi, hosted by Sam Walker and soundtracked by myself on 3rd August 2022. 
Dreaming Daises was an Adelaide late night radio show that ran from 1990-1999, hosted by Georgie Knight with her unique and ethereal tones..... The show essentially soundtracked and educated a generation of dance music lovers in Adelaide, with the positive influence still resonating today... 
This show, mixed and recorded live in the studio, captures the sound of the show and in particular the 92-94 time when the Dutch and Detroit sounds fused with the unique techno transmitted from Adelaide. Hopefully this show either stirs some memories or provides some insights for those unfamiliar with the show or the sounds of the time.... Enjoy :)

Apartment Records' Kenny Hanlon is the DJ for this week's featured mix for 5 Mag's RISE series.

Kenny Hanlon is a long term "get" for me personally as I've been a crazy fanboy of both the music on his label and the way he runs it. Hanlon runs @apartment-records which released one of my favorite records of 2022, Being's There, available on digital and cassette via Bandcamp. Come to think of it, Apartment also released one of my favorite records of 2021, NCW on NCW. Their next release (and thus potentially my favorite record next year) will be from New Jackson, coming out in early 2023.

In addition to running Apartment Hanlon is one of the organizers of the Open Ear festival in Sherkin Island, Cork, Ireland.

Wow!!! I have been trying 2 find thiz tape 4 over 30 yrz... & I found it 2day!!! Thiz iz a very rare & raw set of Lil' Louis live @ Medusa's in Chicago. The quality on thiz tape iz not that gr8 at all. Then again it wuz recorded on a cheap low bias tape. Reguardless, I am soooooo happy I found it!! 
Thee selection'z r out of thiz world... & of course classic Lil' Louis joint'z along side some Detroit classics. I wuz blessed 2 hear Lil' Louis @ Medusa's along with thee overlooked DJ Scrappy who wuz 1 of my favorite til thiz very day. 
I did a track in tribute 2 Medusa's & Scrappy.

Trushmix 136 in the house! Amsterdam's own Kennedy dishes up a nice one hour down to the chill-organic percussive to house mix. A great way to start this week. No blue Monday just house Monday! It will make you feel good and give energy!

Kennedy has his regular show at Red light Radio in Amsterdam, plays wax at Redlight Light Records check that out, and a full time member of the Music for Memory crew, also he is producing music, that will be out on wax and DJ'ing regular around the clubs and pubs!
