When you hear APOLONIA for the first time, you think of freedom. Of energy. Of pure joie de vivre. Born in a small Nordic town with a musical heart, raised between her Cuban roots, instruments, dance halls and an ear for all things groovy, her love for music began in her infancy. Alongside further musical education and a passion for music and art, her DJ journey began in 2019. Four months later, she was already part of the Green Berlin collective around Marteria, played her first festival as CUBY and toured across Europe with Marsimoto. A little later, it became a solo career that beats to her very own beat.

Demeter harvests her lost tears,

The Eleusinian Mysteries were a festival and a mystical ceremony held at Eleusis in Attica in honour of the goddesses Demeter and Persephone . It was generally accepted that it was the most sacred and revered of all the festivals of ancient Greece having originated in Samothrace and the Cabeir Mysteries were brought to Eleusis by Thracian colonists. They began to gain great fame during the time of Peisistratus and reached the height of their glory during the Golden Age of Pericles .

For this week's Guest Mix we have invited Swiss producer/DJ Mimetic to showcase his skills. 

Musically involved in techno and atmospheric sounds, Mimetic is the reflection of Jérome Soudan’s mind, complex and fascinating. This is a hyperactive musician, often described as an essential piece of the European underground music scene, working as artistic director of Electron Festival and Audio Club in Geneva. 

Far from being stuck on one idea or genre, Mimetic writes for contemporary dance artists (Carol Brown, Jan Linkens, Lionel Hoche), creates the soundtracks of underground movies by director Lech Kowalsky (D.O.A, East in Paradise...), he is also collaborating with Sigmasix on audiovisual installations. After 21 years of touring, expressing and improving his art, Mimetic is still following his path, fed by multicultural influences.

Celebrating a career that now spans 21 years of musical activity, Mimetic is releasing a 21-track LP on Les Arts Minis this June 27th, titled RVSTD1: 1998 - 2019.  21: 3 x 7, the number of perfection according to the Bible. It symbolizes divine wisdom, mirror to eternal light which, thanks to its high level of purity, permeates and penetrates everything.

Musically involved in techno and atmospheric sounds, Mimetic is the reflection of Jérome Soudan’s mind, complex and fascinating. This is a hyperactive musician, often described as an essential piece of the european underground music scene. He first studied piano at conservatory level, leading him to explore and become interested in clarinet, orchestral percussion, drumming and later electronic drumming. Once he finished his musical diploma, Jérôme moved from Lyon to Paris in 1994 and joined Les Tétines Noires. He soon became involved in another project: Von Magnet, where he quickly established himself within the band, due to his drumming talent, as well as his natural skills as a composer. During four years, he lived in Berlin, from 1996 to 2000 while playing and writing in Art Zoyd, he created his own musical project: Mimetic. He is now living in Geneva, working as artistic director of Electron Festival, Présences Electroniques Genève and Headfun.
His first album as Mimetic named ‘Overrated’, received good reviews from the electronic music movement. Far from being stuck on one idea or genre, Mimetic writes for contemporary dance artists (Carol Brown, Jan Linkens, Lionel Hoche), creates the soundtracks of underground movies by director Lech Kowalsky (D.O.A, East in Paradise…). Specific work that he is still involved in currently, he is also collaborating with Sigmasix on a audiovisual installation experiencing the sound in octophony: Vertical Surround.
So far, Mimetic has released 9 albums, many various digipacks, DVDs and also a book. His last album “Where We Will Never Go”, includes collaborations with Mika Vainio, Mira Calix, Niveau Zero and Samael and was remixed by Kangding Ray and Paul Kendall ( NIN, Depeche Mode ).
Not only a successful producer and live artist, Mimetic is a brillant DJ, mixing with ease different styles such as bass music, techno and electronica. He aleady shared the stage with : Surgeon, Ellen Allien, Jeff Mills, Charlotte De Witte, Paula Temple, Nina Kraviz, Robert Hood, Leftfield, Jon Hopkins, Daniel Avery, Rodhad, Max Cooper, Chris Liebing, Slam, Optimo, Agoria, Pantha du Prince, Miss Kittin, Speedy J, The Hacker, Oxia, Sam Paganini, Marcel Fengler, Alan Fitzpatrick, Extrawelt, Roman Flügel, Paco Osuna, Modeselektor, Helena Hauff,….
Behind his machines, he knows how to handle the crowds and to make them move. After 25 years of touring, expressing and improving his art, Mimetic is still following his path, fed by multicultural influences.
