Having started her musical journey when she was just 16, Lindsey Herbert has truly become a recognized name in her city of San Francisco and beyond. Her unique signature sets and productions are true journeys that explore alternating soundscapes laced together by dark, deep and heavy textures, as well psychedelic elements and ethereal melodies. 

Lindsey’s hard work over the years has paid off, gaining her residencies with San Francisco’s Robot Ears for six years, and more recently becoming the newest member of Direct to Earth in SF, as well as earning a spot on the roster of Berlin-based agency, Point Collective back in 2016. She has played coveted gigs in Detroit, Chicago, Athens, Istanbul, and throughout Germany, as well as the legendary Tresor Berlin and Gate Club in Batumi, Georgia.

Truncate joins for DifferentSound Podcast #109.

There is really not much to say about our next guest that hasn't been said before - born and bred in LA, started DJing in his teens, part of the long-standing Droid family, techno prodigy and current forerunner in the genre, alter ego extraordinaire.... we are talking about TRUNCATE.

After being introduced to electronic music back in the early 90's in Los Angeles, a teenage David Flores wstarted DJing across Southern California on the DIY warehouse, backyard, desert, and rave circuit. His style then was as varied as the local scene - a myriad of sounds ranging from house to acid to techno to hardcore. After a few years solely DJing, he began releasing original music under the monikers David F & Audio Injection, which landed him on labels such as Monoid, Stimulus, 4 Track & LA label Droid Recordings. His association with Droid Behavior began in 2003 as resident at the now defunct yet infamous and internationally acclaimed Interface event series alongside Drumcell and Raiz. He currently runs a new event series together with Drumcell and Oktaform named “Observe”.

As you are about to listen, the next hour is the epitome of what his project is all about - deep, jackin', rhythmic techno - that grabs you by the core and it is as much of a body workout as it is the minds. Without further adieu, ladies and gentlemen, this is Truncate.

Recording of the set I did last weekend at the legendary Tresor in Berlin. Had a great time hanging out with the BCR and Tresor crew, all the friends that came over, a lot of them from Rotterdam and of course the amazing crowd. Gaetano Parisio, is one of the most consistent artists in techno, releasing records since the 90s that remain staples in every respectable DJ’s record box. Co-creator of the Neapolitan Techno School, he is now prepared to present a GAETEK LIVE and ORIGENS.
Starting as Gaetek, Gaetano (from Napoli, Italy) released a flurry of classics on labels like Planet Rhythm and Primate Recordings, records that were immediately elevated into regular rotation by icons like Dave Clarke, Sven Vath and even Jeff Mills himself.
He soon launched his first label, CONFORM, which quickly became a beacon for the Napolitano techno scene for which Parisio and Marco Carola were now torchbearers.
They became fixtures at the world’s best clubs and festivals with a four-turntable/two-mixer set-up that left crowds screaming for more while their studio work together lead them to befriended like-minded artists like Adam Beyer, Ben Sims, and The Advent, all of whom released music on Conform. During the same time, Gaetano brought the techno scene together on a charity compilation, Techcommunity 4 Kosovo, to aid the children of war-torn Kosovo—a rare and shocking flare-up of violence within the relatively peaceful boundaries of modern Europe.
If Conform was about community, Gaetano’s next label, ART (Advanced Techno Research), was a one-man affair that issued a series of nine limited-edition, precision-crafted, two-track singles, over the span of two years. He continued the conceptual approach to production with the book-inspired Chapter series, released on his new SOUTHSOUL label, which introduced a deep house-flavored techno sound that was eagerly endorsed by DJs of all stripes. Next came the five-part ADAGIO series of minimal tracks (on the label of the same name), which continued Gaetano’s evolution as a producer at the same time techno was reinventing itself for the new Millennium.
In 2007, Gaetano took a step away from the frenetic life of an international DJ. During that time, he continued recording hundreds of tracks for the pleasure of the music intelligentsia, only. In 2017, he moved to Barcelona, Spain and set-up a new studio where he produced brand new music with several collaborators that will be revealed shortly. He also republished the back catalogs of his labels (this time in digital format, too), setting the stage for the new GAETEK LIVE and ORIGENS (a three turntables dj set just as he used to play in the beginning of his career) intended to introduce his 25-year-plus music career to techno’s next generation.
