The first single to be taken from Slam’s truly astounding upcoming album ‘Reverse Proceed’ sees the hypnotic Pattern A3 alongside some of Techno’s biggest and brightest new stars adding their own versions also.

Slam have chosen one of the major standout tracks from Reverse Proceed to set the tone prior to the album’s full release in late October. With the album built around the concept of varying sequences, it’s fitting that the first single be given such an apt name. Taken directly form the Cirklon sequencer pattern that helped design the track Pattern A3 features heavily modulating synths that seems to have a fully organic life of their own set against the typical backdrop of 909 drums. 

Following on from Slam’s original, Soma have enlisted the help of 3 of the label’s favourite contemporary Techno artists. Argentina’s Jonas Kopp is first up on remix duties and deliver an absolute pile-driver of a remix with his signature thudding drums and machine-gun like percussion firing rapidly against subtle and stripped synth elements.
 
Swedish based Bleak is a very welcome addition to this package as he offers his own ‘Modular Interpretation’. Heavy sub bass and intelligent drum work outs combine with yet more subtle hints of the original’s synth elements to give a more deep and introspective version. 

Rounding off the EP is latest Soma artist Charles Fenckler. The young French artist is making waves in Techno at the moment and has certainly delivered on this project, giving his version a much more minimalistic, stripped and ends up with a solid dance floor burner.

Swiss producer Honorée returns to Rekids with ‘Marée Haute EP’ this January, featuring two intelligently produced deep cuts with a remix from Perlon’s Margaret Dygas.

Basel-based artist Honorée’s inaugural release ‘Marée Basse EP’ appeared on Rekids earlier this year and demonstrated a musical understanding acquired from extensive DJ experience within Switzerland’s club scene. ‘Marée Haute EP’ is Honorée’s second outing on Rekids and includes a remix from renowned minimal DJ/producer and Panorama Bar regular Margaret Dygas.

‘Dorian’ delivers crisp drum grooves which underpin mesmerising chord progressions, haunting synthesiser motifs and spacey vocals before ‘208’ provides infectious drum rhythms, glitched vocal cuts and hypnotic melodies which sit on top of a rumbling low-end. Margaret Dygas’ take on ‘Dorian’ offers a pulsating bass hook and sharp percussion which lays the foundation for dubbed-out synths and ethereal atmospheres to close the release.

Since the beginning of the Nineties, Mark Broom is an institution within the British Tech-House scene. As a DJ, the former London Eastender and now Norfolk resident Broom is rocking international clubs from the likes of the Fuse in Brussels or the Fabric in London for more than 20 years now, but especially his productions for Warp, R&amp;S and Pure Plastic, the label he runs together with studio partner Dave Hill, have defined the hypnotic sound of a whole generation of British clubbers. After Broom has remixed tracks by Gennaro Le Fosse and Johannes Heil for Cocoon Recordings, it was now unquestionably time for a musical exclamation mark under his own name. And so, the Rave mix of "SQ18" is setting a hedonistic imperative for the club year 2012 right from the beginning, quite naturally interspersing a Mentasm rave signal after about three minutes within its driving Detroit Dub Techno, but never conveys the sense of nostalgic mustiness. Well, that's what you can justifiably call a Techno bomb! Next, with "Forward", Broom celebrates an opus that is a bit more rooted in the traditions of Detroit strings, that is reaching for the sky – a track where some people may inevitably think of, for instance, DJ Rolando's best tracks. In any case, with the sound boldness and the maximum of dancefloor service of those tracks, Broom puts the musical evolution of modern electronic dance music in a nutshell.
For all digital DJs, there's a more deep version of "SQ18" included as a bonus track.

Ape-X Records is the new label created by the people behind the Newcastle party of the same name. It debuts with a fantastic EP from mysterious spoken word musician Marske with production duties taken care of by esteemed North East artist and Ape-X label manager Man Power, plus remixes from Spencer Parker and Boxia. Ape-X has long been setting the benchmark for underground parties in Newcastle with intense atmospheres soundtracked by everyone from Amelie Lens to Andres, Robert Hood to Shanti Celeste.

Boss and cult Berlin favourite Spencer Parker reworks the track into six minutes of hard hitting and raw techno that will blow up the club. This is a powerful debut from the Ape-X label and a superb offering from Marske.

A member of popular techno trio Agents of Time, Italian artist Fedele goes solo AF on his Turbo debut, No Mercy for Beginners. Against the backdrop of a nightmare international tour experience, Fedele channeled his negative feelings away from people and into creating darkly euromotional dancefloor catharsis. Try it sometime.

Sharp-eared lovers of listening may notice that lead track “Riot Revolte” purloins the loin jewels (the street-tough vocals) from Tiga’s 2004 classic, “Pleasure from the Bass.” DJ Hell noticed the shit out of this, introducing a mutant variation on the PFTB baseline into his lurid after-hours remix. Moreover, the entire EP recalls the legendary run of killer electro records that kicked off what many, many people refer to as Turbo’s Silver Age in the early-mid 2000s. This may be utterly meaningless, or it may herald the coming era of compressed cyclical time that will dictate dance music taste in the 2020s with the sort of mathematical precision rarely found outside pie chart software. Either way, you heard it here first.

The full EP "No Mercy For Beginners" is out digitally and on 12" vinyl on February 14th.

Detroit Grand Pubahs (Paris The Black Fu and The Mysterious Mr O) restart their @pubahs-engineroom imprint with a series of reissues and reimaginings.

Their "Thanks For Coming EP: was originally released in 2008 as a precursor to their "Nuttin’ Butt Funk" album.  This special 2020 remastered version includes the original track, as well as The Advent and Steve Bug remixes which were featured on the 2008 release, but is now accompanied by a new remix from Techmarine Bottom Feeders who recently released their debut album on EPMmusic.

Radio Slave drops full release of 2019’s mysterious white label, ’Silent Witness’.

Originally released in the summer of 2019 under the name Silent Witness and titled ‘Year Of The Snake’, Radio Slave’s ’Silent Witness’ is a two track single that sees the British artist delve into his late eighties/early nineties bleep influences. The title track’s insistent, no-messing staccato groove and tightly looped discordant tones fall firmly into the ‘face melter’ area of the racks while the flip’s ‘Year of the Snake’ takes a moodier path that screams late night tension.

With a three part LP and numerous singles slated for release, 2020 is shaping up to be Radio Slave’s aka Matthew Edwards most productive year to date. From a producer with hundreds of tracks and countless aliases and side projects where the quality threshold never dips, it’s an incredible feat.
