Techno to DJ

The term annex typically describes a structure joined to a main building, offering extra space or function. In this spirit, Tresor Records revives the ANNEX series with a new end-of-year collection that serves as an extension of the label and club’s output, adding to the creative life that has unfolded within Köpenicker Str. 70 over the past years.

Since the club moved in 2007, the Kraftwerk complex has been repurposed from its original use as a power station to fulfil multiple functions that bring people together to collaborate and congregate: Office, venue, club, exhibition space, and home to the Berlin Atonal festival, the Tresor Foundation, and the Academy of Subcultural Understanding. With the arrival of the Hard Wax record shop in 2023, the building now offers another way for the like-minded to come together and to share ideas in a common space.

ANNEX echoes the many roles of the building by fostering introduction, connection, and creation: all of the music within was created by individuals directly linked to Tresor: from club staff and residents to Hard Wax employees and long-time friends.

Across 28 tracks, the compilation unites artists from various backgrounds and generations, some collaborating for the first time, creating a moment in motion as Tresor heads into a new year.

Spandau20 delivers its eleventh various artists release, a sonically rich and future-facing blend of broken grooves, spatial moods and modern Detroit romanticism. Four tracks, four new angles on the dancefloor.

ANNA Z sets the tone with 'Kabeljau', an eclectic, IDM-flirting workout. On the opening track, elastic rhythms stretch and snap while ethereal pads drift overhead, punctured by sudden turns and glitchy surprises. Moody, weird and beautifully unpredictable. Dajusch continues with 'Fallout', diving into shimmering Detroit-inspired chords and pristine production. Clean yet full of soul, its dreamy propulsion moves with effortless optimism. With SPANDAU20 011, the West-Berlin collective celebrates a hybrid future, rhythmically adventurous, melodically rich and rooted in a love for the dancefloor's most timeless emotions. This record combines Berlin grit with dream-state techno, balancing rough energy and refined emotion across four cuts that leave their mark on the floor.

With this release, the Prague-based artist further explores his interest in industrial techno territories. The fresh tracks are sprinkled with a smidge of EBM vibe and drenched in vocal samples, resulting in a high-energy, hypnotic ride that is punching, groovy, and ultimately dark at its core, but never mindlessly brutal.
