OK party people here it is .... my first ever SC mix which was done to promote Electric Zoo and this will be the first of many, many more to come as well as many remixes, mashups, edits and exclusive versions I have in my vault that's ready to burst. Sorry it took so long and I hope it eventually becomes worth the wait. Peace & Love dt :)

PS: This 1 hour mix is more of a variety of tracks and a mini-journey as opposed to the tech house, techno and tribal energy I plan to BE banging @ Electric Zoo! x

You can hear, in the songs of No Regular Play, hints at the sounds that inspired the duo to make music in the first place, and sonic whispers of the vast musical lexicon they share. Friends since the age of eight, Greg Paulus and Nick DeBruyn grew up listening to Native Tongues and underground hip-hop and jazz. That love of music never waned: the two traveled to Cuba together to study Afro-Cuban music and Paulus formally studied classical and jazz and toured with the band Beirut. That explains, then, why their output since they began releasing music in 2008 – mostly as part of the Wolf+Lamb collective – has so effectively married diverse sonic influences with smooth house. Nothing Less, their debut release on the HAKT label, very nearly glides through its four songs, bringing along elements and instruments give this release depth, richness and texture. 

On “Nothing Less,” the opener, Paulus plays trumpet against a backbeat that’s suddenly surrounded by cosmic synths and his own Prince-reminiscent vocals. Track two, “Night Ranger,” feels like an ‘80s summer night, with keys forming elegant patterns beneath Paulus’s vocals and sparse, mournful horns. “Ice Cold Bottle” toys with synthy funk, and fills out with murky keys, thumping beats and lyrics that are smirkily, playfully sleazy (And includes maybe the best lyric of late: “Don't bother with the bathing suit/’Cause that suit will drop.”) And “Indigo,” which starts off with stacks of handclaps and big bottomed bass, unexpectedly weaves in swooning cello and string swells that feel hopelessly romantic.

B1-Ice Cold Bottle

Amadeus sees it’s catalog graced yet again by New Zealand outfit Chaos In The CBD. The kiwi brothers, birthed Ben & Louis Helliker-Hales, are no new faces to the label, or the wide variety of genre-bending acronyms they encompass. Having recently relocated from tropical Auckland to damp London earlier this year, the two take their productions along with them in their latest efforts, 816 To Nunhead.

Title track and aside, “816 To Nunhead,” is tinged with what’s left of summer. A nostalgic tune built for the sun and soaked in funk. It’s a track reminiscent of early french disco, almost as if built for the two robots themselves. Guitar plucks and hi hats flow seamlessly throughout the tune, aided by a glorifying vocal, “I would like to think of my music as just an extension, an extension of me of today or whatever.”

What emotion of freedom and escape evoked on the Aside can be contrasted on the flip, “78 To Stanley Bay,” a tune built behind the ever looming theme of loneliness. Accompanied by a live trumpet courtesy of Isaac Aesili, ’78 To Stanley Bay’ tells us a story, or rather a journey, built behind dirty hats and delayed keys. This is a track fashioned for everywhere but the club, and we absolutely love that.

Rhythm Operator - Back In The Days (Monitor 66 Remix) [Out Now]

NastyFunk's 8th release sees more fresh talent recruited to their ranks, in the guise of Spain's Yeray Herera. The "Get Back" EP is a rare gem, as each one of it's 2 original mixes and 2 remixes has the individual power to fill any dancefloor in it's own unique way. The title track for example, Get Back, is a hugely pumping groover, and a true testament to the theory that simplicity rules in deep house music. The catchy bassline and mega-cool sporadic vocals ensure this is a cool bomb for any occasion. In contrast, the B Side, No More, keeps the feel of the release but changes the mood via an uplifting atmospheric number filled with feelgood reverberations and soft grooves, all the while hinting at an oldschool vibe, truly reminiscent of a bygone genre. 

The 2 remixes on the release are vastly different in what they achieve; Erik Christiansen's take on proceedings adds some organic touches and turns up the funkometer to 10 in his version of the original, working with the bass, vocals and percussion to create a happy, carefree vibe… whilst Toucan pulls out the stops with a superlative disco track, in a wickedly creative edit of the original, bringing a solid groove and poetic touches, coupled with an enormous bass sound, and a well polished finish. 

Get your hands on this one and you won't regret it.
