DJ and producer Aleix Gimeno (@gimenomusic) is releasing an exciting debut album, 'MOVEMENT', for his most recent moniker and artist project Gimenö. Since receiving the DJMag award for Best Spanish Dance Music Production in 2003, the Spanish-born, Berlin-based DJ has released and performed as Leix. His seasoned experience and technique behind the decks make for a unique journey through sound and style, seeing him host numerous parties in leading clubs across Europe and perform at festivals like Off Sonar and ADE. Aleix also works as a mix and mastering engineer and label executive, starting his first label Novo Music in Spain in 2007, followed by Lowertones and Blueten Records, and his recording studio, Gimeno Studio, since moving to Berlin in 2015. These projects have allowed him to work with many international artists and labels to gain experience that he now condenses into his new project Gimenö.

Gimenö serves as a playing ground for Aleix to experiment and bring together the diverse influences acquired throughout his long-standing career. As the culmination of his work to date, "MOVEMENT" offers a unique dive into the forces that have shaped his music taste and style;

"'MOVEMENT' symbolises my musical evolution thanks to the cities and countries I have lived and have been influenced by their tendencies and cultures…a journey that shows my musical influences in all stages as a DJ and producer, going back to my musical origins (that few people know) until today."

Staying true to his signature underground sound, the release combines driving basslines, big beats and thumping drums, textured with a gritty, grungy attitude and juxtaposed against ethereal floating melodies and sharp percussion. The work plays with the idea of movement through modulation and polyrhythmic beats for the feeling of constant motion and a unique travelling experience through time and place.

The LP opens with the serene and melodic 'Ports', which gradually builds over pulsing synths and wet plucks, modulated and reversed for a gentle ebb and flow motion. The track's title defines the source of inspiration; "the video is recorded in the "Els Ports" natural park, 5 minutes from my house where I go up whenever I can to disconnect from the studio." Sonically, the track draws from the ambient sounds of nature, Boards Of Canada and Alexander Kowalski from the early 2000s. From the second track on, hard-hitting drums and bass drive the release and remind us of the genre in which we are operating; Aleix's beloved underground techno scene.

The LP will be released via the Spanish label TUTU Records (@tutulive), the label project led by DJ and producer Edgar de Ramon that seeks to promote techno music with style and personality. His aim is to provide an authentic way to discover innovative trends in the art and culture of underground music. 

Gimenö's "MOVEMENT" will release via TUTU on June 27th, 2022.

And this is it, fellas: The time has come for our last premiere of the year! After all, sexy dinosaurs also need a break. We finish our 2022 season reviewing one of the selected themes from “Hybrid Colony Vol. 1”, an eclectic and plural compilation coming soon on Sonido Moderna, a micro-label and music collective headed by none other than Fabio Me Llaman Soltero (SXDNS187). For the occasion, the Guatemalan superstar and his team invited both established and rising/promising artists who delivered tip-top cuts to enrich even more the VA: Hermetics, Kabinett, Meneo, Tyu, Nick Hanzo (SXDNS065), Odia, and Sphynx People.

The track we selected for our last dance in 2022 comes from the creative minds of the latter aforementioned. Sphynx People is a studio-only assemblage led by Roman Truth (SXDNS149) in collaboration with two mysterious Disco editors and record collectors from the UK. “Smoked In Panajachel” is a groovy and percussive funky gem with bouncing guitar riffs and legit vocoder hooks that brings a suitable retro aura to the compilation.
