Canadian producer Joe Silva is no stranger to electronic music’s discerning ears, releasing through his Purespace imprint since 1995 and contributing to the likes of Viva, Nordic Trax, and Tango. Silva specializes in an organic approach to synthetic sounds resulting in music that’s consistently warm, forward-looking, and groovy. His latest release on Purespace Recordings, The Final EP, is no exception. The EP’s three outstanding tracks stylistically differ, showcasing Silva’s production range, but all highlight his knack for deep textures and nuanced melody.

The EP opens with the dreamy “Shine,” a laid-back gem that features gorgeous vocals by Paula Calado. The sound is sleek and expressive with shimmering pads and sparse but bright rhythms transmitting a neon-hued late night feel. “The Final” introduces a slinky, downtempo 4-on-the-floor beat accompanying a gentle synth melody and layers of atmosphere. The moving chord changes and whispered voices create a vibe not unlike a slow-motion “Sueño Latino.” Then Silva returns to the uptempo realm with “To A Place,” a 2-step garage-inspired cut with soulful vocals from Mariana Cañadas. The sound is crisp and vibrant as the cut twists and turns in increasingly captivating directions. A strong choice for dance floor discovery.

It was in 2009 when Paride Saraceni envisioned his rework of the Doors' classic 'Light My Fire', a project which never came to life until 2015 when he decided to create a work that would not only translate the classic rock masterpiece into a postmodern dance floortune.
'Jim's Prophecy' is however not simply a rework of the Doors' classic hit but a seamless collage of several of their works as well as of a 1970 interview to Morrison himself in which he predicts the future of music, from which the track adopts its title.

It is the format by which these events come to our ears that Saraceni found inspiration from, since not only Morrison predicted the advent of the one-man band surrounded by 'machines and tapes' but it is this statement itself a tape recording in its own right. The conceptual playfulness that this postmodern work is characterised by is given by both its content and its container, since what is being revoked by the means of this remix is both the essence of the band's live sounds and live performance adapted to now days rhythms, as well as the way in which these have came together by the very means (tapes and machines) which Morrison spoke of in his interview, this last one as well being ironically employed in the mix, making of the remixer (and in a way of Morrison himself as well, as he directs the dialogue within the track) the true one-man band in relation to and within the various fragments of time and tape-space assembled into one single recording.

Fun Boy Three’s groundbreaking 1981 anthem ‘The Lunatics Have Taken Over The Asylum’ reflected a socio-political uncertainty and fear of the time, mirroring today’s calamitous society.

Radio Slave’s tribute to the late vocalist of The Specials and Fun Boy Three, Terry Hall, ‘The Lunatics (A Tribute To Terry Hall)’ centres itself on the unmistakable haunting vocal chant of its source material. Welded to the sort of unbreakable groove that Radio Slave has spent two decades refining, the vocal swells, repeating chorus, and jolting alarm sounds make for yet another anthem from one of dance music’s most bankable names.

Rounding out the release, Radio Slave strips the single of its iconic vocal for the ‘A Clinic Full Of Cynics’ dub. In this version, he lets its infectious guitar strum bass roar and added jazz-inflected musical elements shine in a pure and true tribute to ska music told by the Rekids founder.
