Greece’s funk maestro is back with an incredible new album, Soul Shower. Dimitris Tentinis is Mister T., a mainstay of the Cold Busted label having released seven previous albums through the respected imprint. His varied discography touches on hip hop, soul, dub, and electronic music – but funk is the consistent thread tying together all of Mister T.’s productions. His cuts have become staples in the DJ sets and playlists of underground tastemakers, and there’s also recognition from the mainstream — Mister T.’s music has appeared in brand campaigns from the likes of Capital One, Walmart, Nike, and Hennessy. The funk maestro is on the rise, and Soul Shower is his latest milestone.

Soul Shower opens gently with “Nostalgia for Bent,” featuring a lithe boom-bap beat, tinkling piano, pulsing bass, and a magical female vocal. San Francisco’s Tal M. Klein reveals the Exhaustasaurus EP, a selection of three original tracks taken from his upcoming album of the same title on Aniligital Music. Inspired by Tal’s consistently exhausted state of mind during its recording sessions, Exhaustasaurus is his third solo album in an impressive discography that dates back to 1997. Included in this discography are also his many in-demand collaborations with Hector Works’ Anthony Mansfield and remixes for the likes of Cornershop, Nickodemus, and Basement Freaks. Like these past endeavors, the new album cuts showcase Tal as an artist who refuses to be constrained by the limitations of any particular genre. The EP starts off with the title track, a heavy house number that builds, kicking into full gear halfway in and never letting go. Second on the release, “The Consequence” slows down the tempo with cut up strings, an evocative piano, and an acid breakdown. Still low in tempo, but this time high in acid, “Perforated” is a sardonic retrospective homage to a time when the TB–303 and TR–909 ruled the electronic music scene. Get Up Recordings is back with another New York-meets-London collaboration from Hannah Holland (label owner of Batty Bass, Native City). Hannah Holland is a product of all the best bits of London club culture. She condenses the most innovative and exciting parties, scenes, movements, subcultures, and music into one frenetic curly haired whirlwind of a DJ. The Live It EP is a double A-side release that features vocals from club legends and remixers who are on the forefront of the underground club scene, from both sides of the pond. First up is “Live It”. The original is inspired by the New York Ballroom House genre, taking cues from NYC club kids like its featured vocalist, Xander. With a dark, cutting bass line, equally cutting percussion, and vocals that reference the city nightlife, the track easily lends itself to the underground dance floor. Label owners Christy Love and W. Jeremy re-work the title track under their moniker House of Stank. Their remix is the housiest interpretation on the package with its bright, uplifting keys, swinging percussion, and thumping bass. Fellow New Yorkers, The Carry Nation also take a cue from the NY Ballroom genre for their remix, infusing it with their signature style of tribal beats, stabbing bass hits, and vocal FX samples. The second original track on the release, “Play With the Maid,” is a dark and edgy house track filled with bitch-house style vocals provided by British DJ and producer Josh Caffe who makes reference to The Shed, an infamous after-hours spot tucked away deep in East London. Rounding out the EP is a remix of “Play With the Maid” from London’s The Cucarachas (Tom Stephan and Borja Peña). They give the track a super old school house vibe complete with chord stabs, driving four-on-the-floor beats, and a grooving bass line that kills. This release is a prerequisite for all after-hours heads. &#13;

 Cold Busted welcomes back Akshin Alizadeh, the man from Azerbaijan, for a new single featuring Manchester based singer-songwriter Chesqua. "Walk Away" reflects the producer’s strong funk and nu jazz influences as well as his ability to combine funky grooves with punchy hip-hop beats. The song opens up with orchestral strings, piano flares, and Chesqua’s vocals (whose singing is reminiscent of India from MAW fame) before later introducing rhythmic guitar, an organ, and a rich sax. Having over two decades of experience, Reed is a veteran house DJ that has played alongside his share of heavy hitting, cutting edge electronic artists. He’s naturally progressed into capturing these sounds in productions, with releases on labels like Attrakt Records, Sounds of Juan, and Digital Overdose Records. Reed dives right in on “High People In Low Places” with underwater radar pings, sci-fi pads, melodic keys, and deep sub bass. Introduced by a strong clap, “Ever Done” slowly builds with tonal stabs and bleeps revolving to hypnotic effect before vocal repetitions bring back a human aspect. Taking things one step further, a nuclear meltdown sounding alarm signals the urgent arrival of “Letters On The Fridge,” and soon a jacking bass line enters lock down and radioactive synths begin to seep in. On “Whispers And Rumours” the atmosphere gets deeper as a moody and rich synth groove rises under percussive pitter-patter. Sharp strings cut through a fattened low end and sensual whispers rumour at late night situations. With his first release coming on EyeQ records in the late '90s, Tom Gillieron (Turbo, Keinemusik) has had a bright production career that includes the support of some highly influential names. His remix uses cavernous and reverberating stabs, one even sounding as if struggling for breath, along with chugging mechanical effects and a tense, high winding synth. Cold Busted returns to familiar label artist Poldoore (born Tom Schillebeeckx) to release his new album, The Day Off. It features some talented guests, including the mysterious Maverick, emcee duo The 49ers, American blues singer Bodhilynn, and trumpeter Will Magid. Based out of Belgium, Poldoore started producing at an early age and eventually his potential was realized by Cold Busted&rsquo;s offer to release his debut L.A.X. EP . Friskybeat Records presents "Signs Of Love," a collaborative venture between Label Owner/DJ/producer Luis Machuca, keyboardist/composer Max Zipursky, and flamenco-jazz guitarist Andre Stepanian. The three talents blend soul, funk, latin, and nu-disco house rhythms to orchestrate a tasteful offering for discerning music aficionados.

“Signs Of Love” is a splendid nu-disco flavored house cut full of energy and emotion. The framework for the track is a four-on-the-floor drum beat, driven by hi-hats, groovy percussion, and anticipated muted bass. The musical layers feature a vintage organ, lush piano strings, and electric guitar, all topped off with a soulful vocal loop to add extra heat.

After rollicking singles for the likes of Hardkiss Music and Paper Recordings, San Francisco's ThrillHammer — AKA the duo of Duserock and Coltorious — confront the "Music of the Spheres." The tune is based on an ancient philosophical puzzle: why don't the heavenly bodies, such as stars and planets, make sounds as they travel through the sky? Aristotle believed that we hear it as infants, but as adults, we tune it out. How can we listen to the music of the spheres?

Duserock produced the track and handed it over to Coltorious for some of his lyrical flavor. The final song features rousing piano chords, a beefy four-on-the-floor rhythm, and Coltorious's distinctive voice joined by layers of harmonizing overdubs. Back in 2016 in Witbank (South Africa), local DJ, producer and musician Nash La Musica was dropping some tasteful tracks and remixes on a well-known local music podcast which was connecting with the wider Witbank music scene. Another local Dj and vocalist, Vox, (who has since sadly passed away) reached out to Nash La Musica via WhatsApp and they became acquainted.

What happened from there is a bit of magic. Based on a true story while Vox was DJ’ing one night, he sent Nash La Musica his spoken word vocals surrounding the events on the dance floor one night in 2009. Nash added his musical touch, and the resulting "Go Deeper" was born.

Utilizing minimal but impactful production using the standard kick, clap, hi hats, chords and a mad tube bass, "Go Deeper", which was never released, has been called up from the vaults to finally see the light of day. It’s sure to be the next classic from the stellar issa’min imprint. Go Deeper!

Casomado’s new track, “I Feel So Lucky,” is the first release since the Canadian/Chilean producer revamped his home studio to feature analog gear. Inspired by the memories and musical influences of his father's disco and funk collections, Casomado explores his sound with various new production techniques.

The foundational loop is a sampled groove shaped by an array of percussive samples, 808 drums, and a funk-acid analog bass line. Extracting from another record, Casomado blends a vocal verse inspired by a newfound love in his personal life.

The Cosmic Dub explores Casomado’s affinity for psychedelic music. Reimagining the original mix, he creates a landscape of texture and layered synthesis. With a spacey drum foundation and filled with effects, this mix caters to a more spiritual listening journey rather than a dance floor banger.

The title is fitting as the release touches upon multiple styles of electronic music. Athens, Greece DJ and producer mister T. has readied another ace album for the Cold Busted label -- the appropriately titled Funk Around the Sun LP -- and this one is sure to be in heavy rotation. mister T. is a master of instrumental, soulful, and upbeat dance floor funk, and this album further solidifies this fact. Retro party sounds get the beat-down with a playful attitude in twelve funk-tastic tracks, just in time for summer. It's hard to pick highlights, but here's a few: "Mo Style" has powerful vocals from the '60s era that some may find familiar, but reimagined over funky breaks with rhythmic guitar licks, brassy horns, and soul organs. The horn section comes further front-and-center over the drum spatter of "Dig This," with the addition of humor through a sparingly used vocal sample. San Francisco electronic music mainstays Hardkiss have released double remix EPs of “It's Right", the fourth single off their sentimental spring album release 1991. The album was hailed as "one of the most important EDM records of the last ten years" by Magnetic Magazine while Datatransmission.co.uk called it "a modern dance classic." For the occasion, Hardkiss have reached into their own backyard to pull from Bay Area family on one side and, on the other, contributors from around the globe further extending their tribe - dual offerings aimed at delivering a diverse collection of remixes.

The San Francisco Family Remixes features different versions from David Harness, Freakpusher, Robbie Hardkiss, and Gavin Hardkiss while The Global Family Remixes includes a host of international artists from Africa, Europe, and the USA including Stephane Deschezeaux, rAin, N'Dinga Gaba, Constar, and, once again, Gavin Hardkiss.

For early digestion, a six track sampler merges the two EPs, showcasing a few highlights by the Hardkiss brothers, Harness, rAin, N'Dinga Gaba, and Constar. The holistic effort from this cast of characters is hard to pin down on a release that is at times dramatic, playfully pop-sensible, and tapping into something cosmic … but mostly downright funky and unpredictable. Nothing less is to be expected when bringing together the contrasting mix of San Francisco dance music legends, rising producers with their own take on the South African sounds, and a lone New Yorker from the Brooklyn borough. The prolific Manchester-based artist known as Robot Needs Oil has been found covertly recording downtempo, reggae, and hip hop fueled beats under the curious name of My Neighbour Is. Buddha Fly is the latest album for the Cold Busted label under this moniker and it serves as an immersive downtempo / hip-hop hybrid. Half pitched-up and pungently stringy, half laid-back and enveloped by a smoky haze, the album could be the soundtrack to a fable … and a funky fable, at that. This split sees the release's ten tracks teeter on the edge of trip-hop at times while flirting with antique sounds from days gone by at others. EXPOSURE is the long-awaited debut album from Reverse Commuter, a project of the multi-faceted Los Angeles-based producer Kenneth James Gibson. Featuring collaborations as well as solo productions, this kaleidoscopic set of songs gives a bird’s eye view into the influences and techniques that make Gibson’s music a special experience. The thing about colder climates is that they allow inhabitants a mass amount of time to stay indoors and work on quality music. "All The Way", the latest single on DeepWit Recordings, was birthed in Iceland and comes from Jonbjorn, one of the artists behind that country's stand out label, Lagaffe Tales. As a naturally talented producer with a knack for simple hooks that make repeat listens a must, Jonbjorn crafts an all-too-rare-these-days ear worm that leaves an insatiable hunger for more. "All The Way" is warm and skittery with a fat kick and equally heavyweight sub bass. Increasing the heat, the label follows it up with an inextinguishable rework by Junktion who delivers pure, one-man-disco-band fire. Between his label Outplay, various appearances on vinyl imprints, and an outstandingly deep sound, this Dutchman shows a massive amount of poise with a remix whose quality can't be over-exaggerated. To round out the single, Lagaffe Tales' other half, Viktor Birgiss, shapes the original into its most housey form yet with an addictive, dance-friendly and melodically moving piece of ice capped bliss. With this release, DeepWit has put its foot down on what the label thinks deep house should be, in pursuit of quality and unbothered by others' chase for trendier sounds.

The Cold Busted label is pleased to present another installment of their funky and soulful downtempo beat series Street Bangerz, designating Volume 9 to fourteen tracks by Sixfingerz, a Belgian producer from Antwerp. While he prides himself on a library of ethnic, worldly instruments and a collection of old records from which to draw from, the influences of his early years of music listening are also strong, coming in phases of IDM or hip hop. All of these weigh in to give his tracks an old school feel when it comes to sounds, but a foundational freedom for dealing in atypical beat patterns and arrangements. Indeed, much of the sounds used in Sixfingerz' edition of Street Bangerz have an almost instant, timeless familiarity, even if strictly on a subconscious level for some. The guitars stylistically pull from different eras, the musings of instruments from far away lands excite, the rhythm section's samples and pitch manipulated vocal chops are complex, and the lo-fi effects bond together his other unique, knick-knack filled sound pallets. This is not trip hop or downtempo as some may know it, but a hyperactive and boundary-less take on the formats.

Two tracks from Soulspace’s brilliant and highly acclaimed self-titled album have received the remix treatment, resulting in a package of compelling collaborations from across India’s electronic music sphere. This 2014 album on Wind Horse Records from Soulspace – AKA New Delhi’s Vishnu PS – captivated listeners from the worlds of deep house, ‘chill out’, and abstract electronica and the remixed single also appeals across this spectrum. Soulspace has taken album cuts “C’est La Vie” and “You” and placed them into the hands of a variety of Indian producers, including those working outside of deep house for a more eclectic, ‘alternative’ direction. 

The emotive track “You” receives a trio of versions, led by a gentle downtempo interpretation from Mumbai’s Sandunes. The project of Sanaya Ardeshir, Sandunes wraps “You” in complex breakbeat rhythms and clever manipulations of the original’s trademark vocal phrase. The Sine Painter (comprised of the Bangalore-based Jayanth Ramachandra) arrives next, giving the track a forlorn four-on-the-four treatment, including echoey plucked melodies for an exotic effect. When Pandas Attack then provide the third remix of “You”, enveloping the track in thick pads and chiming tones, as breezy downbeat drums and stereo-swirling vocal snippets combine in a mesmerizing manner. 

Soulspace’s “C’est La Vie” also receives the remix treatment, earning a pair of pleasantly diverse versions. Bangalore DJ duo Audio Units – familiar to followers of Wind Horse Records – have revealed a lush deep house revision of Soulspace’s track. It features a bouncing, buzzy bass line and melodic arpeggiations alongside a flurry of atmospheric treatments. Late night bliss. Rohan Ramanna, known here as ROH, next reinterprets “C’est La Vie” as a cinematic downtempo soundscape, masterfully capturing a dreamy feeling with layers of sparkling sound and an insistent, slow motion rhythm. This one demands to be listened to on headphones.

Get Up Recordings co-owner W. Jeremy rounds out the label’s 2015 original releases with the Clear To Me EP. The package includes three original tracks – “Clear To Me (It’s Ovah) feat. Devon Dunaway", “Devil’s Backbone” and “Spring (Alternate Mix)” – and a remix of “Clear To Me (It’s Ovah) feat. Devon Dunaway” coming from Chicago’s own house music maestro Doc Link.

“Clear To Me” is W. Jeremy’s first full vocal production and it’s a sweet throwback to NJ piano vocal house. The collaboration between Jeremy and vocalist Devon Dunaway started when he sent the track to Dunaway asking if he could find someone to remix the then instrumental track. Dunaway’s response was that he had lyrics that would fit the music perfectly, and the song was born. Dunaway’s singing is reminiscent of vocal house legends Colonel Abrams, Robert Owens, and Aaron-Carl, and takes inspiration from gospel, jazz, ’70s soul, R&B, post-punk, and art-rock. Perhaps best known for his searing collaborations with tripped-out techno-house guru Floppy Sounds on “City For Sale” and “Those Voices” – both issued on Wave Music – Dunaway has also worked with acclaimed Danish downtempo artist Ganga, Finnish tech-house masters Roberto Rodriguez and Mr. A, “hard-dark-and-tribal soul” heavyweight Tedd Patterson, and Mercury Prize-nominated electronic alt-pop group, Bat For Lashes. The music is clearly rooted in early ’90s NJ piano house, almost an “ode to” the records that were out at the time on Strictly Rhythm, Easy Street, and Movin’ Records.

Hailing from Chicago and inspired by the legendary club sets of Farley “Jackmaster” Funk and Ron Hardy, Doc Link inevitably launched his own DJ career in 1987, his first professional DJ gig happening in 1989 and then finally making music in 1994. Doc launched Liberate Recordings with sometimes production partner Eman in 2007. Liberate boasts 107 releases with artists such as Roy Davis, Jr., Stephanie Cooke, Hanna Hais, Angel-A, Rainy Payne, Rescue Poetix, Diana Waite, Veronique, Malik Alston, Randy Muller, Sheree Hicks, MJ White, Marissa Guzman, and Eman. Doc has had his own releases on Defected, Hi-Rise, King Street, Transport, Distant Music, Nite Grooves, Tony Records, and Farris Wheel. Doc Link’s Eyes Wide Open Mix is a beautiful, bumping, stripped-down version of the original lush track. He incorporates his own trumpet hook to compliment the synth hits, which coincides with the rhythm of the beat.

The second and third tracks, “Devil’s Backbone” and “Spring (Alternate Mix)”, are intended for sheer listening pleasure. Both tracks delve deep into the electronic disco soundscape. Classic drums and ’80s synths drive “Devil’s Backbone”, giving it a darker feel. At the other end of the spectrum is “Spring (Alternate Mix)”, which is a take on W. Jeremy’s “Spring” track released earlier this year. With its bright keys and acid elements, it is a playful and light-hearted track.

The latest release on respected Seattle house music imprint Uniting Souls features New York house music legend Onionz. Label founder Ramiro goes way back with Onionz, with the two becoming friends in San Francisco during the heyday of the ’90s scene. This EP Is a reunion of sorts, rekindling the creative energies shared between these two house music pioneers for almost two decades.

Onionz’s contribution is the cosmically titled “Space Slave” – perhaps a reference to a certain metal-bikini’d intergalactic princess? – and it’s a sublime excursion into beat-driven deep tech house. The track builds masterfully over its seven minutes, with echoed arpeggiations and groovy rhythmic elements pulsing in and out of the mix. “Space Slave” is then punctuated by the emergence of a moody, psychedelic synth melody at its peak, evoking the feeling of space travel via the dance floor.

The release also unites vibes from coast to coast, with remixers from three different corners of the US. Seattle’s Pezzner opens up proceedings with a haunting feel, displaying his expert combination of beats and atmospheric textures. Pezzner has also supplied a second version of his mix, featuring a subtle shuffle at a slightly speedier tempo. Next up is Los Angeles producer duo Knoe1 and Jordan Strong (a Uniting Souls resident since 1998) delivering a chugging warehouse vibed rework perfectly suited for the after hours. Brian Busto, of Florida’s Serious Soul crew, then turns in a dark-as-night remix of “Space Slave”, filled with throbbing bass, ominous soundscapes, and crisp machine rhythms. The release closes with San Diego’s Jason Tokita whose hypnotic treatment of the track goes deep, and includes some dialogue snippets captured from distant orbit.

Wind Horse Records returns to the roots of the label with Hamza’s worldly new single “Thar”. Since founding Wind Horse over six years ago Hamza has released a number of expressive singles for his growing imprint, as well as on the likes of Colour and Pitch, Freizeitglauben Berlin, Grouper, and Savoir Faire Musique. The foundation of Hamza’s ‘modus operandi’ has been the combination of western and eastern sounds, resulting in a timeless melding of deep house with global instrumentation such as those found in his native India. The two originals on this single certainly display this aesthetic, creating dance floor moments with a distinctive amount of depth. 

“Thar” is named after a desert in the Rajasthan state of India, known as a place inhabited by gypsies. These same gypsies travelled south to Spain and influenced the flamenco sound, as referenced in the track. Hamza has been playing with Rajasthani gypsy musicians for many years, and “Thar” stands as a shining example of the fusion of their traditional sounds with deep house. Touching on a different spot in the world, the b-side track “Afro Turk” is inspired by Turkey and Hamza’s travels to Istanbul. The rhythm maintains an African influence which inspires the title. Exotic instrumentation and intriguing environmental sounds melt over the layers of percussion and low, growling bass line. The gorgeous extended breakdown could soundtrack a leisurely stroll through the famous Grand Bazaar. 

The second half of the single presents a trio of fantastic remixes of “Thar” by members of the extended Wind Horse family. Miami’s Juan Mejia (Dutchie Music) is first, delivering a cool and bouncy rendition that balances the dramatic strums with gentle piano notes, all underpinned by some serious house beats. The New Delhi-based Oma is next, adding a touch of darkness to the proceedings. A pulsing low end and a clicky rhythm track propel the track’s vision as the dream-like sonic space is wrapped in the more exotic textures from the original. Stalvart John, a DJ / producer from Bangalore, closes out the single with a sparse, dubbier treatment of “Thar.” Anchored by a crisp four-on-the-floor, this remix is a heady journey, taking the listener to quite a few different places within its hypnotic seven and a half minutes.

Greek rhythm rustler Chop Juggler has dropped his debut album – titled More Is Less – to follow up the well-received Diggasmic EP on Cult Classic Records. Released on the prolific Cold Busted label, More Is Less collects eleven top notch beat-heavy jams from the young producer, now in his early twenties but involved in music making since the beginning of his teens. His artist name is apt, as Chop Juggler is adept at taking loops and samples and melding, twisting, and – yes – chopping them into intricate compositions. “Amethyst” provides convincing evidence; seemingly disparate sources are cut into sonic snatches, layered and bursting in and out of the mix to any beat-head’s delight. There’s also the more uptempo “Night Travel” which sounds just like that … if one is traveling by moonlight in a ’70s television crime drama. Slower, spacey moments like “Money Can’t Buy Time” and “Brave New World” showcase Chop Juggler’s depth, but with his ear for striking samples and tough hip hop beats still in full display. More Is Less follows through in its title’s statement by never overwhelming, but the album’s satisfying flow will indeed find the listener looking for more from this talented producer.

Cold Busted’s famed Street Bangerz series has reached its tenth installment, continuing to, in the words of the label, “define the street sound of today.” Indoctrinating global beatmakers into Cold Busted’s extended family, the series promises nimble sample archeology and breakbeats both funky and soulful, combining flavors from the new and old schools. The Athens, Greece, producer Moderator has been tasked with number ten, and he delivers in a champion fashion. Last year’s The World Within album for Cult Classic Records gave a tantalizing taste of what to expect from Moderator as Street Bangerz Volume 10 now rolls onto the scene. The Cold Busted label showcases their international bona fides with a collaborative album involving two producers separated by a half-world’s distance. From one side of the globe comes Jenova 7, known to friends as Michael J. Sirois, a multimedia artist from Boston and a member of trip-hop trio Wax Triptych (with Mononome and Mr. Moods). Then all the way over in Ulyanovsk, Russia is the young producer Eddie Shinn, author of the acclaimed Cold Busted debut The Plastic Jam as well as The Third Is Not Superfluous, his album in cahoots with Step. Now, A Cosmic Safari takes this international concept and launches it skyward … the album’s songs take place in an intergalactic sound-space. There’s “Flying Cabs”, which envisions a future that’s funky and bright, with hip hop beats, chiming Rhodes piano, squelchy synth lines, and trippy guitar riffs. A “Cosmic Girl” is encountered, loose and free, with an ’80s style rhythm embellished by cowbell percussion and floating melodies. “Intergalactic Noir” could signal a new eponymous genre, displaying a distinctive drum beat underneath funky flutes, cool keys, and the sound of space pals getting down. These are just three of A Cosmic Safari’s eleven tracks, and Jenova 7 & Eddie Shinn have delivered a full set that is out of this world.

“Nostalgic, soulful and, of course, boogie-woogie.” That’s how Belgian DJ producer Boogie Belgique (AKA Oswald Cromheecke) describes the enticing combination of styles and sources from different decades that make up his music. Taking vintage inspirations, most notably from swing and jazz eras, and merging them with contemporary beats and textures is the young producer’s forte. This is pleasingly evident on Volta, the latest Boogie Belgique album for the Cold Busted label. 

“Jungle Law” gives a glimpse into Boogie Belgique’s sonic palette. Tough hip hop beats and funky live guitar follow an intro of jungle ambience as a trumpet presents the melody. Soon some swingy big band jazz enters the song in an almost ghostly manner, while the insistent beat keeps the dance floor moving. Album opener “Go Slow” shows a different side to the coin giving the listener an uptempo broken beat rhythm, some bouncy bass guitar, snippets of string loops, and a lovely, forlorn vocal line that echoes the past. It’s a beautiful concoction, and Boogie Belgique delivers on many aspects of this style throughout his eleven track album. Volta is a satisfying trip in an aural time machine.

Peanut Holmes is a duo consisting of Chris Holm and Eirik Blåsternes, hailing from the city of Bergen, Norway. They have previously been working with everything from the far east underground hip-hop scene in China to the vast cornfields of American indie-rock. They have been through it all, movie acting, playing national league beach soccer, skateboarding through the streets on their own signature pro-models. 

The past few years Chris has been busy with his own projects – Young Dreams and Bloody Beach – while touring the world with Sondre Lerche, Paperboys, Thea Hjelmeland, and Miss Tati. Eirik has been producing gems for the likes of Ralph Myerz, Son Of Light, Xiao Ou, The Youngfellaz), Sadat X, Lupe Fiasco, and Suga Free. 

They met touring as live musicians for Paperboys and Miss Tati. Now they are joining forces under the Peanut Holmes moniker ready to explore the electronic abyss of Scandinavia. 

Their debut EP, titled Hello, is the beginning of a journey through Peanut Holmes’s magical and wondrous universe. Mixing up instrumental hip hop and weird electronica grooves with a leftfield attitude this release will surely trigger endorphins. 

Steady raps, soulful melodies, vocal contributions in Icelandic, French, and even Swahili. As long as the world keeps buzzing in weird, whompy, and synthesized slopes anything can happen, right?

Get Up Recordings welcomes back NYC hometown DJ / producers The Carry Nation with their infectious house jam “Breakwater”. The release has some heavy backers on the remixes: Batty Bass label head honcho Hannah Holland as well as Chi-town bosses Banjee Report. 

The Carry Nation, comprised of Will Automagic and Nita Aviance, have been producing tracks and remixes for the past five years for such labels as Batty Bass, TRAX, Nervous, Get Up Recordings, TRIBAL, Night People, DFA, and Twirl. Their party, also named The Carry Nation, started at Brooklyn’s infamous after-hours spot The Spectrum and lived at both Steel Drums and 43 Scott before landing at Good Room. Their productions and the infamy of their parties have brought them around the world in recent years from Berlin to Chicago, Helsinki to San Francisco, Milan to Paris, Pittsburg to Austin, and their second city, London, including Block9 at Glastonbury Festival. The duo have past releases and remixes on Get Up Recordings, such as “Warriors” with The Cucarachas, Nita’s side project Brooklyn is Burning, and Will’s side project Automagic. Their catchy, ethereal house jam “Breakwater” continues to showcase their amazing talent at producing. They also include a dub of the track, entitled Praise Mix. 

First up on remix duties is London’s Hannah Holland. Hannah’s career began ten years ago with legendary DJ residencies at seminal London clubs Trailer Trash, Batty Bass, and Dalston Superstore. Hannah regularly appears at clubs such as Fabric London, Dance Tunnel, Ministry Of Sound, and Bugged Out. She has toured the world extensively; China, Singapore, Australia and North America have all rocked out to Hannah’s distinctive bass-heavy sound playing alongside such luminaries as Steffi, Rodhad, Green Velvet, Andrew Weatherall, Ivan Smagghe, and Jennifer Cardini. As well as remixes for The Knife, DJ Hell, O Children and Planningtorock, Hannah has original releases on Legendary, Nervous Records, and Get Up Recordings. Her current releases include The Lush EP on Derrick Carter & Luke Solomon’s Classic Music Co. imprint and an incredible remix of the Spatial Awareness EP on Twirl. Her distinct productions, which fuse many styles into a hybrid of house, techno, and bass can be heard on her massive groove remix for “Breakwater”. 

Next up is semi-new producers, but life-long artists, Banjee Report, aka Mister Wallace and aCeb00mbaP, who really got their start in the summer of 2011 as a party for the under-represented Queer class in Chicago. By the fall of 2012, the party grew to a globally-inspired podcast that reached over thirty-five countries. They dropped their debut mixtape, “Banjee Report First Edition”, in January 2013, followed by touring that included stops at Via festival in Pittsburgh and SXSW. After founding member aCeb00mbaP launched the label FUTUREHOOD, co-founder Mister Wallace released his debut EP, FAGGOT, in February 2016 to critical acclaim. Their remix for “Breakwater” is a sublime drum-infused dream.

San Francisco native Jeffrey Tice has a talent for seeing color in the blank spaces. Jeff’s roots are in early electronica but that doesn’t stop him from adopting the methods of the future. The Aurora EP is Jeff’s sophomore release on Harmonious Discord Recordings following the success of his first project, “Where Do You Go?”. Four outstanding original cuts – the title track, “What’s Going On?”, “Been Alone”, and “Cape Tape Leisure” – comprise this musically minded dance floor collection. Austin resident and Denied Music boss Daniel Allen provides us a blissful reprise, and longtime contributor of sonic oddities Plastic Pope returns to the label with a signature of strange. 

“Aurora” provides a great balance between floaty ethereal accents and driving funk bass. A snappy rhythm section helps move the experience forward with jovial flare. “What’s Going On?” changes tone with a serious intro, built-in tension, and masterful dub design. Rich in texture and methodical in structure this tune is an essential dance floor tool. Daniel Allen returns to deliver an inspiring heater that elevates the mood to euphoric atmospheres with rich chord interplay and spacious arpeggiations. “Been Alone” delivers immediately on thick garage and deep house constructs, including a building analog bass pattern that begs for foot movement. HD’s mysterious but ever consistent provider of strangeness Plastic Pope makes a much anticipated return, offering a small slice of insanity with hints of breakbeat, jackin’ Chicago house, and quirk. Jeff ends the EP with a disco-inspired whale sonnet named “Table Cape Leisure”. Pressed with rim shots and summer fair this funk jam session can fit within the borders of a diverse set of music.

Wind Horse Records bursts forth once again with another edition of the Indian deep house label’s yearly sampler series. These samplers have served as an exciting platform for showcasing Wind Horse’s more experimental side and to introduce some new producers that will be working with the label. Wind Horse Sampler 6 features eleven deep and exotic house music tracks from up-and-coming artists hailing from South Asia and around the world.

Most of the sampler’s producers are based across India, as Wind Horse works to discover and expose electronic music from within its home country. But, as the label has an eye on the global house movement, artists from Jamaica (David Marston), Russia (Igor Gonya), South Africa (Master Kenton) and Morocco (Kali G) are also included. Wind Horse aims to cover all points of the globe, to show that forward-thinking electronic music can spring from any city or country, whether from somewhere in India or any other as-yet-revealed locale.

Stalvart John opens the compilation on a thoughtful note with “A Dream I Can’t Remember”, setting the mood for this diverse sampler with an ethereal yet somewhat jazzy soundscape. Then on “Ragamuffin” David Marston blends his deep house proclivity with an Indian influence, introducing a siren-like ‘eastern’ female vocal to the swinging four-on-the-floor beats. Igor Gonya (Lisztomania Records) delivers an old school Chicago-sounding house cut named “Morning Cake And Tea”, featuring enough skippy rhythms and staccato chords to get the nightclub jumping. “Cyclic” is a contribution by Mumbai’s Farhan Rehman, and it’s a rolling house number with floaty keys, vocal hits, and creaking percussion. Master Kenton keeps things firmly in his pocket with the mesmerizing “Brain Waves”, a track that touches the sonic pleasure center using its sublime textures. Next up is Hans Séance with the deep and especially dreamy “Paragon of Virtue”. Warm pads, arpeggiations, and bell-like tones flow steadily above a subdued four-on-the-floor beat.

Folic State moves things into the techno realm with “Mashita” and its echoey synth lines, mysterious spoken samples, and sci-fi atmosphere. The growling tech-house of Bangalore’s Synister whose “Eastern Dream” brings a dark mood utilizing busy percussion, transformed vocal hits, and a prominent low end. Tatsama’s “Empathy” follows, with a taste of the deep, exquisitely layered, and punchy house music that Wind Horse is known for. The ‘dream’ theme is revisited by Tasnneem, who states “It Was All Just A Dream” in her bass-heavy but gentle house music exploration. Finally, Wind Horse Records’ own Kali G tackles Troja’s recent track “Shanti”, going for a dubby treatment that plays with splashes of percussion and echoed instrumentation to create a satisfying aural journey.

Bogota Records trains its sights on the vibrant house music scene of London-by-the-Sea for an expressive new single from Brighton’s veteran DJ and promoter Magnus Asberg. After a thirty year history behind the decks, in the studio, and organizing hundreds of debaucherous parties, Magnus’s ear for quality sounds has held the respect of those in-the-know for a long while. Under his own name as well as through this pseudonym C-Soul, Magnus has released tunes with an esteemed group of labels including DIY Discs, Plastic City, Ornate Music, and his own On The House imprint. Now he debuts on Bogota Records with an accomplished set of tunes collected as the Awaked Future EP. 

“My Future” opens the EP with a spacey bounce and hypnotic, deep march in its opening rhythm. Tripped-out vocal snippets and measured effect treatments phase in and out of the mix, creating a heady stew that will please the most underground of deep house selectors. The track gets a fleshing out by London’s Tom Gillieron (RvS Music, Eye-Q) who elegantly layers sheets of sound over the basic beat. This one’s filled with psychedelic mania, and its nearly 12 minute runtime doesn’t include a single second of mundanity. 

The EP takes a slight left turn with four distinct versions of “Awaked Future” which feature the vocals of Renate, a familiar name to fans of the Bogota label. Magnus provides an original version, a Club Version, and an Acid 303 Version to satisfy the different moods of the DJ. The dreamy, ’90s style house of the original is masterfully complimented by the acid stylings of the Acid 303 Version, and the Club Version accentuates the cosmic good vibes with some punched up drums and embellishments. Also, Schmoov! (Winding Road Records, Large) is on hand to deliver an especially warm deep house remix of “Awaked Future” utilizing the lovely vocal and some spacious chord-play in a masterful manner.

The Greek beat-head massive is represented once again on the Cold Busted label with Beatbop Street. It’s an album from the cool new project AndyFellaz, a collaboration of Athens-based producer Billa Qause (Beatquick) and percussionist Nikos Martziokas (Wolfy Funk). Influenced by ’90s hip hop, trip hop, Latin montunos, jazz, and lounge, the pair have delivered fourteen exciting cuts that groove and shimmer with the best of ’em. In 1999, the duo of DJ T-Rock & Squashy Nice formed in Atlanta. Squashy Nice is an accomplished beats producer, and DJ T-Rock is a scratch-master responsible for battle records on the likes of Bomb Hip-Hop Records, Stereo-Type, and Replicant Music Trading Corp. Together they released three party-ready instrumental hip hop albums for New Zealand’s Why Records label. Now based from coast-to-coast (Squashy Nice in New York and DJ T-Rock in Los Angeles), the duo has joined the Cold Busted family for their fourth album, the satisfying seventeen track Back To The Essence.

Showcasing the variety and breadth that Squashy Nice’s beats and samples and DJ T-Rock’s scratches can provide, the tracks on Back To The Essence swerve from party rockers to soulful, thoughtful numbers featuring vocals from New Zealand vocalist Miss Glue. Among the standouts are the opening “Hit The Breaks”, combining harmonica, ’60s style fuzz guitar, heavy beats, and some crucial vocal scratches; “Let Them Be”, with Miss Glue’s lovely vocals providing a counterpoint to acoustic guitar cut-ups; and “Watch The Clouds”, featuring gentle piano, a loungey string section breakdown, and wistful vocals from Squashy Nice. Emapea, the renowned beat-maker from Poland, burst upon the scene with multiple compilation appearances on Cold Busted, an inclusion on Mark Farina’s Mushroom Jazz 8, and his stunning debut album Seeds, Roots & Fruits. Fans and headz worldwide have been clamoring for a follow-up, but all Emapea wanted to do was just ‘zone out.’ And that’s what happened, with the release of Emapea’s twenty song album Zoning Out, Volume 1.

Emapea’s cuts are meant for the listener to get lost in – but they’re not only for chilling, or when deep in thought, but also for getting in that crucial head-nod zone, like when the DJ drops the dopest beat. Based out of the funky scene brewing in Athens, Greece, Mister T leads the way with another spell-binding album release on the Cold Busted imprint. With accolades from the likes of Greg Wilson, Mark Farina (Mushroom Jazz), and Jose Padilla (Café del Mar), Mister T has become a respected name in the global beat-making scene. The new album — Black Drop — further cements Mister T’s elevated position. Its 12 tracks display an ambitious assembly of creative rhythm construction, crafty sample splicing, and deliciously heavy vibes.

The title track sets the tone, intro’ing with a fat (phat!) beat before a time traveling blues vocal enters the scene. With his acclaimed debut album Seeds, Roots & Fruits, an inclusion on Mark Farina’s Mushroom Jazz 8, and notable Cold Busted compilation appearances, the Polish beat-master Emapea has been a producer to watch. Early in 2018 he unveiled Zoning Out, Volume 1, an album intended for chilling while deep in thought, or for getting into that crucial head-nod zone, like when the DJ drops the dopest beat. With listeners ready for more rhythmic brain-food, Emapea provides with the anticipated next installment: Zoning Out, Volume 2. 

Developing the theme of Volume 1, Emapea takes his jazzy sensibilities and fresh drum patterns and ups the ante, delivering 18 mandatory cuts that swerve and shimmy while exhibiting pure dopeness. Take “Last Cypher,” which is an infectious funk-hip-hop hybrid that flows with more than a few surprise embellishments. There’s also the low-rider spy-hop of “Big Small Talks”; “Tantra” with its smooth, old school ride; the sensual boom bap of “Blue Almonds”; and the infectious, latin-lounge-tinged “Rainy Day”.

Boston beat-maker Jenova 7 returns to Cold Busted for the crucial cut collection Dusted Jazz Vol. 3. A crate-digging vinyl junkie and film school graduate, inspired by the heyday of ‘90s trip-hop — and artists like DJ Shadow, DJ Krush, and Portishead — Jenova 7 forged his own sound, eventually ending up on DJ Mark Farina’s Mushroom Jazz 8. After taking a stylistic departure with the funky sci-fi themed album A Cosmic Safari, his collaboration with Russia’s Eddie Shinn, Jenova 7 issues the long-awaited third volume of Dusted Jazz, following the first two volumes on Dusted Wax Kingdom. He is also a member of trip-hop trio Wax Triptych (with Mononome and Mr. Moods).

The cuts transmit a hazy and jazzy flow throughout, featuring chalky mid-tempo breakbeats and funky beamed-in-from-the-70s atmospheres and flavors. You can almost see a sun-drenched, scratchy super-8 film accompanying “5 Pointz Theme,” an immensely cool cut paying homage to a city’s graffiti center. “You Dig?”, which originally appeared on IWYMI Volume Nine, continues the vibe, delivering squelchy vintage synth, chunky piano, and a lovely guitar interlude. And “Static,” featuring the lovely vocals of K8 Marcos, reveals Jenova 7’s range — it’s a delicious, breezy trip hop tune that wouldn’t be out of place alongside the likes of Zero 7.

Dusted Jazz Vol. 3 is a treasure from top to bottom, and Jenova 7 joins the ranks of his influences with this accomplished and multi-faceted release.

Cold Busted has unveiled the latest offering in the vintage-style Jet Set 7” series. This time it’s from saib., the Moroccan beat-smith behind the exquisite albums Sailing and Around The World. Mixing tempered hip hop beats with jazzy vibes and a lounge sensibility, saib. touches on a style that’s both chill and opulent — fitting for the nostalgic vacation vibe of Jet Set.

The bossa nova flavors of “Brazilero” open the single as we calm our nerves with a tropical drink. The title cut then transports the listener through an airport lounge and straight into a groovy seat in first class. Dreams are another form of travel and “Lady Jane” captures that perfectly with its soft vocal, soothing guitar, and rolling beats.
