The spaces between

From Caterina Barbieri's debut album Vertical (Important Records/Cassauna, October 2014) composed for Buchla Synthesizer and vocals.
Vertical is a meditation on primary waveforms and the polyrhythm of harmonics in synthetic sounds, stretching the boundaries between drone, minimalism and techno. Barbieri's minimalist focus arises from the exploration of the stratigraphic potential of voltage-controlled sequencers, in terms of polyrhythm and polyphony. Employing synthesis, psychoacoustics and repetition as key concepts, the italian composer stylizes the dancing of wave cycles in severe geometries of time and space.
All the tracks were played, recorded and produced in Stockholm, at EMS (Electroacoustic Music Studios) and KMH (Royal University of Music) in Summer 2013.

Pinkcourtesyphone reaches out and touches someone… in this case an international call with Dutch harpist extraordinaire, Gwyneth Wentink. 

Wentink weaves her magic with an improvisation on the triple harp, a replica of a harp from around 1600 made of 3 rows of strings instead of the more common single row. The effect is a multi-timbral coalescence of mood, a conversation between layers. 

Pinkcourtesyphone thoughtfully folds, manipulates, and merges the gossamer resonances of the strolling fingers of Wentink under and over a hazy sonic shroud of worn romance and phobophobia. 

This spiralling composition is created for endless heavy rotation/ background consumption for an anxious and medicated society prone to ambivalence.

[Description of installation]
This is an installation using sunlight, the sounds changes depending on weather and time zone.
The first impression of the exhibition space"space_inframince" was that the light of venue is beautiful. This space have a charm that you want to look into what this space is exhibiting from the outside. This light that I was attracted into has become the starting point.
There are three types of light that illuminate this space. The south sun light coming from the front show window, the west sun light coming from the toilet window and the illumination light inside the venue. The balance of these three lights makes space impression, and it conveys information from outside such as the weather and the passage of time.
We recognize on time, temperature, direction etc. from changes in the height of the sun. Sun light affects other creatures as well. I focused on the habit of this creature being influenced by the sunlight (called "Phototaxis" is the habit of moving in response to light provided to insects etc.) and made machines to move to the light source. 
One is machine with sound that motor driven by solar power that rotates in the progressing direction, scratches the concrete floor with thin legs. The other is machine for moving to the light source that motor turns on when irradiated with sunlight, gives a force to rotate and moves slowly.
All three units move from 13 o'clock to 15 o'clock and they are noisy. On a day with clouds, sunlight is blocked and change occurs, and sounds are shaken. After the daytime, the sounds which hits the floor stably with the unit by the illumination light sounds. All motors stop with lights off at closing time, silence returns to the venue. 
Since the sunlight is strong during the summer exhibition period, this installation was completed using the light to insert into the venue.

The fact that our body is constantly traced and measured is nothing new at this point. In this society we need obfuscation techniques and strategies for camouflaging and fading ourselves into the background, so we retain control of our bodies. Some of these tactics involve chaos and voids, low res behaviours or keeping awareness of our traces. The Swarm is a collection of sound sketches based on emotional data collected in a silo by my own body and by my own will.

Italian microsound maestro Fabio Perletta presents an exquisite and elegant sequel to his mix for Secret Thirteen in 2017.  Both mixes feature solely composers and musicians from Japan.  He freely intermixes a variety of genres and time periods, producing a stunningly complex and listenable tableau.  This mix is also a way to say thanks to all the wonderful people and friends Fabio met during his most recent visit and tour of Japan in November 2017: Takamitsu Ohta, Asuna, Minoru Sato, Eisuke Yanagisawa, Sawako, Tetuzi Akiyama, suzueri, Yoshiyuki Suzuki at Ftarri, Hideki Umezawa, Hakobune.
