Archaic Podcast 432 - Rachael

Fueled by a great love for electronic beats since she was merely a kid, and captivated by the nostalgic allure of vinyl records, Rachael (@raquel-vi) invested her first paycheck in a pair of Technics turntables. Hailing from Zaragoza and now a proud resident of Madrid, a city she migrated to in pursuit of her melodic passions, and she has continued cultivating her musical spirit since then. After years of polishing her skills, it was in the vibrant year of 2022 that she ramped up her involvement, becoming a sought-after guest and a dynamic collaborator with numerous record labels, collectives, and dancefloors spanning our nation.

A journey through some of the genres that you'll get to listen in 95 Open Tabs. A story based on the calm but heavily inspired by the storm, which tries to escape from the world we live in while we sit on a sofa where only people we love have sat before.

A tribute to my home and to the calm that floods me every time I walk through the door. To the peace that only music gives me, nevermind if slow or accelerated, nevermind if ambient or heavy bass tunes. It hugs me. 

A hiding place is a hole in existence and a non-place which is in fact more of a "place" than any other. A safe place. 

In my hiding place there is usually water. Water connects me to everything and to the land where I was born and transports me to the calm and to the salty waters of Gijón.

This hour has been a hiding place  :)

95 Open Tabs Mix Series is back. This time Emilia invited Nahuel, an amazing dj and selector from Argentina based in Valencia.

Nahuel is a huge digger and a bass boss. Period. 

He flows through oneiric textured sounds while exploring IDM, bass, minimal dubstep or industrial dub in a narrative-driven, perfectly coherent, elegant way. A wizard 🧙‍♂️

This mix goes up and down always focusing on the low ends we love. Crazy heavy textured ambient sounds in the beggining, going all the way up to accelerated broken beats with a constant taste of dubby riddims, dancehall vocals and elaborated percussive elements.  A window to Nahuel's huge repertoire.

Hitting with another trip!

This time Emilia invited Madrid finest TRUGLUT, dj and producer, full-time digger, extremely sweet human being and member of Eigenblau Collective. 

For this trip Truglut has prepared an impeccable selection, full of textures and atmospheres that soothe the soul, ending with accelerated broken beats that take you to a state of trance. A little cave to take refuge on rainy afternoons but also a walk by the sea with the sun hitting you in the face. 

This mix starts like waking up from a dream to enter an infinite wormhole, an alarm clock that takes you out of a dreamlike universe to take you to another one.

During this journey of just over two hours, you can walk through all the low end sounds of dub to dive into the blue pools of a drum and bass that is more like a druid and bass.

The selection of this mix is incredible, with a perfect cohesion of textures that embrace you as if in every climax you were coming home.

Thanks for this mix, Jose, it gives us goosebumps every single time.

95OT_MIX SERIES_003_TRUGLUT

This podcast series was created to help define and broaden the Asphalt Records sound, ethos and sonic etiquette, and the latest installment of the series does just that, and masterfully so. Madrid based, but Zaragozan born, Rachael’s bio and online presence are so sparse, as prolific is her gigs list and podcast appearances, which leads us directly to a sole truth: in this age of pathologic egotistical behavior, hiper-self branding, and fake humbleness, she lets the technics do the talking, which is frankly refreshing to say the least. 
 
The artist has been storming the most underground and adventurous cabins since a good while now, imprinting her furious blend of high-bpm-breakbeats, sharp and banging drums, dystopian atmospheres and sci-fi melodies which conform now her sonic imprint, no matter the speed or style she is playing. Not only that, but she has been doing it the hard way, the way of the vinyl only, which in a present full of dj aids and compressed digital formats, makes her a music romantic on top of a hardened dj, such commitment saying a lot about her personality and activist dedication to a dying craft. 

Her mix for Asphalt is tribal, deep and mental, rich in percussive minimalism, with influences between autonomic heritage and with a modern take on the noir tech-steppism of Source Direct and Photek, and evolves into modern jungalist roughness and recent dread mutations, unto the fringes of the sonic experimentation: always pushing forward, always with a dark and twisted narrative edge, always embedded in the nuum’s chemical nightmares and paranoias. 

This mix in particular was thought after the effects of the technologic alienation provoked by digital devices, and as framing, here below is an alternative tracklist provided by Rachael herself, so throw your phone and turn on your speakers, it’s time for going back into the matrix.

Asphalt Podcast 008 - Rachael

Guest today is Vrika, one of our fav djs, humbling to publish this mix :)

Vrika is a Madrid-based dj and producer, part of Calma and Espacio Perpendicular, prolly one of the best music spots in the city.

This trip is a live recording from Espacio Perpendicular, opening an Onyro gathering with Pessimist. 

The journey starts with ambient and drone textures to warm up the engines of the spaceship that takes off in the middle of the set and drifts into complex halftimes and low frequencies always sticking to the oneiric atmospheres.

Vrika's technique is admirable and enviable, seeing him live is an incredible experience, and this journey is an example of his ability to massage your brain hehe

https://soundcloud.com/xxlyv is a visual artist, dj and field recorder based in Paris with a huge sensibility when it comes to creating the perfect soundscape for healing and this mix is an example.

Elly keeps finding the warmest melodies and effortlessly tops each other off. Listening to a mix of hers is something extraordinarily emotional and contemplative that brings calm to the day of anyone who enjoys it.

You can feel Elly's ability to relate to and understand the sounds she mixes, and you can also feel the love that flows through them.
