Italian producer MACY recently announced the release of an upcoming EP: Love Will Tear Us Apart.

The EP is going to features 3 tracks, including Lies, Love Without You, and Another Day. All of these are original mixes, and the production is nothing short of outstanding. The song “Lies” kicks off with a very atmospheric production, with shades of psychedelic textures and some trance influences. However, the tuned percussion (the Marimba type sounds in the track) add a bit of an Afro-Beat twist to the progression, making the song really stand out as it goes along. The vocal parts are also deep and lush, adding so much dreaminess to the feel of this release.

“Love Without You” takes the EP to a different direction, going for a more traditional sound, which has a deeper tone and a bit of a darker edge to it. Last, but definitely not least, “Another Day” is another excellent track, which has a more percussive feel, with a rhythm-focused composition. I really enjoy the metallic tambourine-type sound that drives the rhythm, as well as the clap and the steady kick drum. The chord progression adds a beautiful climatic build up, and it fits the sparse background textures, making for a soaring dynamic evolution of this track.

Ultimately, these 3 songs denote MACY’s ability to explore different stylistic influences, and still come up with some galvanizing melodies and huge build-ups for his tracks. From otherworldly soundscapes, down to melodic and bright vocals, anything goes here! This EP will surprise you for its variety, and for its immersive sound design perks.

On the other hand, the beat has a modern and punchy tone, with a massive kick and an upbeat arrangement, which keeps the energy to high levels.  “Night Is Close In” follows along the same lines, although the sound veers towards a more classic feel. The beat is king here, and the rhythm immediately endows the track with a sense of motion and attitude. The bouncy bass tones and arpeggio synth layers really add to the swirling melodies of this song, merging with the smooth vocals in a very seamless way. The vocals actually really add a distinctive twist to the song, making me think of artists such as Robyn, Halsey, or Elle Goulding, only to mention but a few.

MACY is a producer who brought a very emotional twist to his deep house production. It’s a heartfelt dedication to the artist’s wife, who sadly passed away. In spite of that, this track doesn’t feel like mourning: it feels like a celebration. MACY captured the contrast between hope and melancholia in a very special way, with otherworldly melodies, far-reaching vocals and haunting synth tones. The drum beats take a step back during the verses, allowing the singing to take the main place under the spotlight. However, the drums kick in powerfully as the hooks evolve, going for a massive kick and pumping groove.

MACY is back with a brand new EP: Heaven Up Here

MACY is a record producer and artist with a diverse sound. He often explores different genres and ideas with his music, and his most recent EP is another amazing example of what he can accomplish creatively. The new studio effort is titled “Heaven Up Here.” 

As you might be able to tell from the moment you hit the play button, MACY focuses specifically on House music for this particular EP. However, he does so in an incredibly diverse way. There are so many different influences on the EP, ranging from progressive arrangements down to melodic house and organic as well. As a result of such a distinctively kaleidoscopic approach, the artist actually managed to achieve a diverse listening experience. In addition to that, the production is at a very high level, and each song hits the mark in terms of sheer sonics. The kick drum, which is the bread and butter of House music, in my opinion, is always centered, focused, and big. Never too subby, never to click-y - It has the right tone to fill up the frequency spectrum and keep the song’s bounce alive, but without ever overpowering the other elements in the mix. The percussion elements around the backbone of the beat are all very engaging as well, particularly the hat sounds, which offer a nice, cut-through flow. The melodic content on this EP is wildly diverse as well. On songs such as “Moonlight,” the producer explores a more haunting and mesmerizing soundscape. However, things play out a bit differently on the song “People,” which has a unique rhythm that even reminds me of Afrobeat at times, particularly due to the inclusion of some organic percussion elements. The song “Deeply Love” is one of the highlights of the release. It has a pleasant old-school warmth to it, and the beat feels dry and spacious, creating a nice contrast with the atmospheric synth parts in the background, offering a nice stere depth as well. Last but not least, “Feels Like A Falling” is one of the most upbeat and energetic songs on this EP. The percussion parts are as loud and prominent as the kick drum, and the bass has a nice growl to it.
