Dance music was forged in shadows. House and techno music was forged in the shadows because of racism, sexism and homophobia in music venues and bar cultures of the 70s, 80s and 90s. This push out of Black queer and trans DJs from mainstream music scenes has persisted into the 2000s and 2010s. And yet, Black queer and trans DJs keep on spinning, because music has always and will always be a part of the revolution. Black queer music generates rhythms of radicalism. We must make the 2020s a decade where Black, Indigenous, Latinx, queer, gender deviant, disabled, sexually explicit, and sex working people not only survive but thrive in a world set against them. We cannot demand or settle for anything less. 

@babexhouse started as a collective of like minded QTBIPOC artists that recognize the necessity of reclaiming house music histories and the importance of dancing with each other and ourselves as acts of resistance. @babexhouse has evolved into a National Solidarity Network and is working to build support and infrastructure for QTBIPOC communities, creating a national solidarity network with the goal of creating chapters throughout the country. Whether it is the shadows of music cultures because of the hyper policing of black queer spaces or the shadows of the internet because of social media’s commitment to deplatform those determined to be sexually explicit, Black femmes are fighting for their future to exist. BABE HOUSE is about building home and building permanence for Black queer melodic futures. This means BABE HOUSE is invested in supporting mutual aid projects, creating shared artist platforms, and building partnerships and alliances with like-minded organizations. Join us in solidarity.
