Sonya Alvarez has been making a name for herself in her hometown of Detroit, MI. Alvarez uses techy house beats spun and cut in a hip-hop fashion to create a melodic, bouncy and exciting story for her audience to engage with. Her sound ranges when appropriate and includes genres like deep house, tech-house, bass-house, break-beats, & techno. She tests the crowd limits and challenges them to be as physically involved as she is, drawing attention to important builds and drops, and inspires the crowd with a good amount of footwork on her own. Sonya also has been known to play a fair bit of rap & hip-hop in her DJ sets.

Starting her journey in 2016, she has made her mark as an event curator / promoter and has focused on building up others in her community.
Sonya's skills are on par to have already shared the stage with some of her favorites including Shiba San, Boys Noize, Chris Lake, Pete Tong, MK, Destructo, Kill Frenzy, AC Slater, Roger Sanchez, Anna Lunoe, & Maala.

“A people’s DJ and a DJ’s DJ”, Sonya has traveled to places like New York, Philly, Chicago, Florida, Colorado, Canada, and other places in the midwest bringing her style right around to capture the hearts of friends and fans alike.

Sonya has lately started her own record label, Korner Kombo Records, with a bi-weekly mix series, live-streams, & productions.

Anyone who has seen Sonya spin live will tell you, she’s not messin’ around and she’s in it for the long haul. Sonya Alvarez was booked to play Movement Electronic Music Festival 2020 & is excited for the future! 5LAPHOUSE: pronounced (slaphouse) is a Record Label, Radio Show, and Clothing Brand created by: Elgin Reese aka DJ ELG1N, ELG1N, or 5LAPHOUSE, which is again pronounced as "slaphouse".
 ELG1N or DJ ELG1N: is a House and Techno DJ/Novice Producer & Model based out of Indianapolis, IN. Growing up with a hip hop influence, jazz influence, and classic soul influence he brings his listeners a variety of different tones, bass, and sonically appealing sounds to calm the soul and elevate your vibration. His mixes provide different feelings to give you a euphoric out of body experience. "The goal is to conscientiously provide people an out of body experience through music that makes you feel good, at that point you have no choice but to dance and enjoy yourself, this is a spiritual journey through the time machine called music." 
As a Producer, his goal is to provide timeless dance music.

Dance music was forged in shadows. House and techno music was forged in the shadows because of racism, sexism and homophobia in music venues and bar cultures of the 70s, 80s and 90s. This push out of Black queer and trans DJs from mainstream music scenes has persisted into the 2000s and 2010s. And yet, Black queer and trans DJs keep on spinning, because music has always and will always be a part of the revolution. Black queer music generates rhythms of radicalism. We must make the 2020s a decade where Black, Indigenous, Latinx, queer, gender deviant, disabled, sexually explicit, and sex working people not only survive but thrive in a world set against them. We cannot demand or settle for anything less. 

@babexhouse started as a collective of like minded QTBIPOC artists that recognize the necessity of reclaiming house music histories and the importance of dancing with each other and ourselves as acts of resistance. @babexhouse has evolved into a National Solidarity Network and is working to build support and infrastructure for QTBIPOC communities, creating a national solidarity network with the goal of creating chapters throughout the country. Whether it is the shadows of music cultures because of the hyper policing of black queer spaces or the shadows of the internet because of social media’s commitment to deplatform those determined to be sexually explicit, Black femmes are fighting for their future to exist. BABE HOUSE is about building home and building permanence for Black queer melodic futures. This means BABE HOUSE is invested in supporting mutual aid projects, creating shared artist platforms, and building partnerships and alliances with like-minded organizations. Join us in solidarity.
