Here we have a rough and raw mix of vinyl records. Nearly all of the music is produced by Detroit artists, released on Detroit record labels, and purchased from record stores in Detroit. There is a wealth of quality music coming out of the city which is heavily reflected in these recent additions to my record collection. I want to highlight local labels such as Wild Oats, FXHE, 7 Days ENT, Fit, Sound Signature, etc. - these imprints exemplify the vitality of underground music in our city. If you haven’t been to Detroit Threads or Submerge, turn off your computer and embark on your pilgrimage now. You’ll find music from young artists such as Kyle Hall and Generation Next. You’ll find tracks from long-time heavy hitters like Andrés and Omar-S. Most importantly, music will find YOU. When shopping for physical music in a real brick-and-mortar store, you will find artists you’d never heard of. Records will jump off the rack and beg you to listen. This is a journey that every music lover needs to experience.
