The Berlin-based label has been going strong since its founder - Australian DJ and producer Dj Whipr
Snipr - launched it in 2016, with recent genre-spanning releases traversing acid, house, breaks, and
electro from artists such as DJ Bowlcut, Low Tape, Soela, Subjoi, Interplanetary Criminal, J.Albert, DJ
Safeword, Anthony Fade, and many more. Nerang now invites six quality artists for its most ambitious
release yet to inaugurate the imprint’s ‘Freaky Friends’ series.
Following appearances on 777 Recordings and Low
Income Squad, Nasty King Kurl is next with a raw sounding ‘Lawless’ - a syncopated cut that blends
acid and electro with Memphis rap and R&B.
In fine form off the back of releasing on Hilltown Disco and 99cts RCRDS, Nerang veteran Ole Mic Odd
brings a sweaty Ghetto House stomper named ‘Hydro Anthem’ complete with a gritty acid bassline and
Pointdexter-esque chopped vocals, making way for Sentient State’s ‘4 Tha Freaks’ which exhibits the
New York-based artist’s softer side as he layers lush pads on top of a stripped back electro rhythm for
pure euphoria.
With releases on Natural Sciences, Who’s Susan and E-Beamz, Germany-based producer Dj Swagger
ups the energy, clocking in with the compilation’s fastest track in a bouncing Chicago House inspired
cut entitled ‘The Phone Talky’. Tying it all together, Warehouse Raves and ec2a artist Main Phase’s ‘Get
Higher’ is a punchy UK garage track complete with thudding 909 kicks, purring bass, fluttering vocals
and rave stabs.

Following releases on E-Beamz, Natural Sciences, and Who’s Susan, the German-based DJ Swagger
returns to Nerang after appearing on the label’s ‘Freaky Friends Volume 1’ compilation earlier this year,
bringing yet another bout of high quality, high energy output to the table.
Merging influences from Dance Mania through to UK Garage, ‘Bass Hysteria’ sees the DJ Swagger at
the top of his game. ‘Atomic Fear’ galvanizes the pure energy of early DJ Funk, with air raid sirens and
glitched out hi-hats punctuated throughout, while ‘Drybones’ nods towards early dubstep and UK
flavours, with gurgling basslines and skippy drums bubbling throughout as occasional glimmers of
gorgeous synth work allow the listener to come up for air.
‘Trail of Destruction’ encapsulates golden age electro, with effected vocals, crisp percussion, and gritty
basslines coming together for a late night groover. ‘Noseblunt’ is a fast-paced whirlwind, aimed for
fog-filled dance floors, perfectly wrapping up the eleventh release on a label pushing diverse sounds
from artists around the world.

Classic electro sounds meet modern production techniques on LA-based Ole Mic Odd’s ‘In The House’, as robotic vocal lines meet heavy arps. It seemed as if they were going in circles. Walking for hours they had seen little sign that they might be nearing the finish line and in fact the hills seemed taller and higher now than they had once at the start. It were as if they were taking 1000 steps forward and 5000 steps back. Soon the daylight would leave them far behind, they would be caught up in the murky blackness of the night wandering onwards in the hope that they might find solace in the foothills of the mountains above.

        The latest release on Berlin/Queensland-based label, Nerang Records, comes courtesy of a collaboration between Australian label-head and producer, DJ Whipr Snipr, and Brazillian DJ/producer, Nørus. Sportsgoth EP is a deep dive into each artist’s interest in the glitchier, harder edges of Techno and Bass music.

        “Sportsgoth” is a fittingly intense closer for this hard-hitting EP. The track has all the hallmarks of a breakbeat-techno gob-smacker: a drowned-out, hardly discernible, chopped-up vocal sample, massive, warped basslines, skittering percussion, immersive synth washes, and several breaks. The track is relentless and immense. Every sonic detour feels in service of achieving absolute maximal effect, especially toward the end, as the final break cascades into a sonic pileup which is downright whiplash-inducing. The beat then returns for one last go-around, an encore of sorts. Whipr Snipr and Nørus seem in lock-and-step with one another, delivering a feast of Techno delights with this track and EP.

In contrast to first the Viiaan productions where sound design, ambient, and field recordings are the main theme, Fusagasuga encompasses a concept behind the bases, melodies, samples, and vocals that through the artist subjectivity correspond to subgenres that influence her within underground electronic music in order to express her understanding of what is techno, dance hall, reggaeton, and the dance floor. 

This first album mastered by Dj Swisha is intended to question the listener and deconstruct ideas of what a particular genre is or isn’t. 

Luis Antonio Tovar a.k.a. Lats, an architect and visual artist focused on 3D digital art, is in charge of the album cover art with collaboration from the tattoo artist Alberto Monroy alias Pandemic Tattoo. Full design will be release within the album at the end of February 2022

Bio: Gizem Adiyaman aka Meg10 is one of the most compelling DJs to come out of Berlin, Germany. Her political outspokenness and love for Y2K Hip Hop & RnB are key components to her musical ID. As the co-founder of Germany’s most talked about femme focused club night and soundsystem Hoe_mies, Meg10 and her work have been featured in many press outlets, including High Snobiety, Vogue Germany, Hypebae, and Vice, which named Hoe_mies “Germany’s most important DJ-Team”. 

With her genre-bending sound that combines both, so called ‘urban’ & electronic music,  as well as her feminist stance to foster a more female and queer inclusive Hip Hop scene, Meg10 has been taking over Germany for the last 4 years. The Berlin based producer has a somewhat slapstick approach to dance music which makes the producer seem facetious from the outset but upon listening to his music, Swagger commands respect as a producer who quite clearly knows his way around the studio. Past releases on Shall Not Fade, Not On Label, E-Beamz and more have consolidated the producers repertoire for pushing out quality dance music. It seems Swagger just makes high calibre music but without the ego… sounds good to me.

Hoticewater blends deep oscillations with skipping breaks and shimmering pads. The track elegantly drifts through dingy and tranquil moods with ease. Hoticewater remains fortuitous throughout as it catches listeners off-guard with weighty dance-floor moments.

Nerang Recordings celebrates its fifth trip around the sun with the second ‘Freaky Friends’ compilation. The six-track compilation features a well-rounded cast of producers, some of whom are marking their return to the label, along with Cologne’s Turk Turkelton, who makes their first appearance on the imprint. Nerang Recordings head honcho DJ Whipr Snipr pulls out all the stops with this excellently curated compilation.

Since its inception in 2016, the Berlin-via-Australia imprint has featured releases by the likes of Interplanetary Criminal, DJ Swagger, Subjoi, Cassettes for Kids and Low Tape, amongst others.

Kicking off the release is DJ Swagger’s ‘Hoticewater’ with its shimmering, ethereal breakbeat feel. Russian electro wizard Low Tape marks his return to the label with ‘So Delicious’, a mood-inducing electro bomb that the producer is known for creating. Rounding off the A-side is Nørus, alongside label head DJ Whipr Snipr, with ‘Molecular Collision’, an acid-tinged electro jam that picks up the tempo.

The B-side maintains the pace from the get-go with Ole Mic Odd’s ‘In The House’, a track that harnesses 80’s futurism with its use of robotic vocal lines and electrifying arps. Next up is ‘Stop Talking Boy’ by Nasty King Kurl, a track that makes great use of hard hitting drums and commanding percussion. Cologne’s Turk Turkelton finishes off the compilation with the track ‘Offenbachs Father’, another electro-leaning track with a razor-sharp drum workout.

His voice, one that would cut through the air like an arrow, had been eroded down to a barely intelligible croak. Blotches of gravelly blood replaced his footprints. It was hot. The horizon line swirled with the rising heat. The pale sky danced with sand, and after gazing deep into this whirlwind of colors, he could make out the silhouette of a woman, slowly moving towards him. Was it a mirage? “Water,” he begged. A droplet fell upon his brow.

To celebrate five years of Nerang Recordings, the Queensland, Australia label, headed up by DJ Whipr Snipr, is releasing the second-ever Freaky Friends compilation. This upcoming V/A features six club-focused, high-energy tunes from the likes of DJ Swagger, Low Tape, Ole Mic Odd, Nasty King Kurl, Turk Turkelton, and a collaboration from Nørsus & the label boss himself.

none/such’s next charity compilation is an effort to raise money for Refugees4Refugees, an independent community network of refugee activists who fight for the protection of their human rights, equality, freedom, and dignity. Standing united against social exclusion in order to contest cultures of isolation, racism, and discrimination, R4R organizes grassroots resistance and campaigns against the oppression of refugee communities in Germany and Europe enabling freedom of movement for the most marginalized. The compilation is free, but all proceeds will go directly to the Refugees4Refugees network.

Premiering next on Nerang Recordings is Adrenaline Replenishment by WakeUpNeo. The EP features four tracks that feature glitchy cosmic highs and bass rumbling lows.

The EP opens with “Shoot Your Shot” an electro belter that features WakeUpNeos signature skippy drums and vocal chops reminiscent of artists such as Jensen Interceptor, Mutant Joe among other artists working in the electro sphere.

“Coast2Coast” is a more introspective fare with the use of lofty strings and synth patches akin to the best classic techno of the 90’s and beyond. Coast2Coast is perfect for sunrise and twilight hours of the party.

[Premiere] Nørus & DJ Whipr Snipr - 1992

After migrating to the Gold Coast from Sydney for competitive surfing in 2019, Lara slowly became involved in the local underground music scene. The singer-songwriter had recently released several indie pop tracks under the alias ‘Fond of Felix’, however learning to DJ led her to discover a whole new realm of music. ‘Felix’ became her new musical identity, the three face motif representing her versatility and the fluidity of her sound.

Felix’s sets are never bound by a genre, only by groove and feel. With a knack for reading the room and adapting to her surroundings, her sets are a constant ‘on the fly’ journey. Her selections are rhythm-section-forward, featuring deep and percussive beats layered with lush synths and live instruments. Jazz, world, and tribal influences can be heard throughout her extensive range of genres, from trip hop and acid/nu jazz to electronica, deep house and minimal tech, all the way through to breaks, UKG, and jungle.

Based in Coolangatta, felix has played at a range of venues and events in Byron, Gold Coast and Brisbane like S*A*S*H, The End Bar, Soho Bar, The W, Fiume, Justin Lane, Mexicali, Hidden Cherub, Refuge and Dusty’s. In late 2020, felix and her three friends ola jar, Joey Pepperoni and D’jeans founded ‘ravewave’, an underground music event group which has evolved from organising casual beach and carpark raves to now hosting monthly events in established venues. Felix and ola jar also frequently join forces in their b2b breaks/jungle duo ‘no dogs’.

Felix makes a range of mixes utilising both vinyl and digital formats and is constantly expanding her collections. Producing an EP for release is her next step, and she looks forward to sharing her own personal sound with the world.

MI.KEY is a Nerang based Dj from Eora (Sydney) who also runs @PenzanceHouse and @ParallelCollective (Music & Art platforms based in Eora). A lover of Warehouse Techno, Acid lines, Breaks and Deep Cuts, his mixes also range from Deep Minimal and UKG to Disco House and Deep House. Having played at numerous parties, raves, boats and venues such as The Ivy and Home Bar, he is eager to share his talents with the Nerang community.


About the mix:
Earlier this year I had the pleasure of organising a rave under a bridge with Parallel Collective, having the pleasure of playing with close friends and the legend Caitlin Medcalf. This mix serves as a window into the euphoria that was that night. I hope you enjoy.

Low Tape - Reality Zone 

Nerang Recordings is excited to make its' return with a coveted 6-track E.P. by Low Tape. Spanning from blistering Detroit-tinged electro to italo-driven melodics, the diversity in ‘Reality Zone' E.P. makes for a versatile tool that can be suitable for both the sweaty dancefloors and the early evening build-ups. This Russian-based producer, who has released on X-Kalay and Further Electronix, raises the bar once again, with an already strong catalog of thoughtfully, mood-induced electro and house. Right off the gate, with opener “Funky Detune,” there’s a weaving of both metallic and acidic sequences that bend at the seams as an electro rhythm drives the heat. With other bangers across these six tracks, like “Dangerous Groove” and “East Dancer,” there’s a clear force in Low Tape’s ability to create smooth soundscapes with serious grit.

Following previous releases on Shall Not Fade and KOMPAKT, Soela will release her debut on Australia-via-Berlin imprint Nerang Recordings with the ‘Downfall’ EP.

The EP showcases the studio and creative mastery of the Russia-born and Berlin-based artist, who has years of experience as a pianist and vocalist under her belt.

Spanning five tracks, Downfall EP sees Soela team up with Berlin-based DJ and producer Module One, and Nerang head honcho Whipr Snipr. The release also features a remix from Ukrainian artist, Saturated Color.

The title track is deep house at its finest, showcasing otherworldly atmospheres, serene chords and Soela’s blissful piano, which has been a staple throughout her productions. Up next, ‘Cabinet’ featuring Module One features echoing, magical synths and thumping percussion working in perfect harmony. 

On the flip side, ‘Golden Hour’ is the quintessential afterhours track that would be at home at daytime raves and summer festivals alike. 

The Saturated Colour remix gives the title track a darker twist, adding an acid house synthline that’s in perfect synch with the track’s dreamy atmospheres and enchanting beats.

Wrapping things up, ‘Hide From Love’ sees Soela team up with Whipr Snipr to deliver a piano meets acid house tune that beckons us to get down on the dancefloor and dance with our eyes closed.

The return of our VA series is marked with the new chapter ‘Freaky Friends Volume 1’ featuring the likes of P.Leone,
Nasty King Kurl, Sentient State, Ole Mic Odd, Dj Swagger, and Main Phase.

The Berlin-based label has been going strong since its founder - Australian DJ and producer Dj Whipr
Snipr - launched it in 2016, with recent genre-spanning releases traversing acid, house, breaks, and
electro from artists such as DJ Bowlcut, Low Tape, Soela, Subjoi, Interplanetary Criminal, J.Albert, DJ
Safeword, Anthony Fade, and many more. Nerang now invites six quality artists for its most ambitious
release yet to inaugurate the imprint’s ‘Freaky Friends’ series.
E-Missions founder and Rekids regular P.Leone leads the way with a thudding breaks number called
‘Parting Currents’. A rumbling bassline is later joined by lush pads and a hammering piano melody
destined to rocket listeners into new heights. Following appearances on 777 Recordings and Low
Income Squad, Nasty King Kurl is next with a raw sounding ‘Lawless’ - a syncopated cut that blends

Coming as the penultimate track on the upcoming various artists compilation EP from Nerang Recordings, Freaky Friends Vol. 1, Berlin-based Australian DJ Swagger’s “The Phone Talky,” serves as the compilation’s searing climax. This compilation is the first of a new series by the label showcasing the talents of six exciting producers from across the globe. Its title serves as a fitting encapsulation of the general spirit of these tracks-- raw, unadulterated, down-and-dirty dancefloor anthems. Despite its hair-raising opening drum-line and head-spinning BPM, Swagger’s cut is surprisingly measured in its bravado. As the salacious, over-the-phone vocal sample emerges, a cushy, lush synth and gorgeous piano melody gently steer the track away from complete hedonistic abandon. This juxtaposition works alarmingly well, as Swagger expertly works more traditional rave elements into the fold, such as turntable scratches, chopped vocals, and handclaps. The track has all the workings of a peak-time banger, yet the overwhelming feeling it leaves leans more towards self-assurance and composure in its overt sexuality, rather than frenetic, reckless revelry.The track’s appeal to get down is conveyed concisely in its vocal sample-- a woman soliciting a man she deems worthy of her and her body. As a whole, the track emulates this confidence and frank treatment of sexual desires. There’s no room for beating around the bush, no time for prevaricating, Swagger suggests. Just let the music do the talking.

Following releases on E-Beamz, Natural Sciences, and Who’s Susan, the German-based DJ Swagger
returns to Nerang after appearing on the label’s ‘Freaky Friends Volume 1’ compilation earlier this year,
bringing yet another bout of high quality, high energy output to the table.
Merging influences from Dance Mania through to UK Garage, ‘Bass Hysteria’ sees the DJ Swagger at
the top of his game. ‘Atomic Fear’ galvanizes the pure energy of early DJ Funk, with air raid sirens and
glitched out hi-hats punctuated throughout, while ‘Drybones’ nods towards early dubstep and UK
flavours, with gurgling basslines and skippy drums bubbling throughout as occasional glimmers of
gorgeous synth work allow the listener to come up for air.
‘Trail of Destruction’ encapsulates golden age electro, with effected vocals, crisp percussion, and gritty
basslines coming together for a late night groover. ‘Noseblunt’ is a fast-paced whirlwind, aimed for
fog-filled dance floors, perfectly wrapping up the eleventh release on a label pushing diverse sounds
from artists around the world.
