To mark the memorial of the passing of Ian Curtis, I-Robots & Opilec Music are excited to present a very special single release. Inspired by the early work of Joy Division, New Order and Ian himself, a set of artists who were in turn inspired also by the Italo wave directly and created a generation of music that sent shockwaves through global music.

Releasing on the anniversary of Ian Curtis's passing, May the 18th. Opilec Music present the special I-Robots Reconstruction of -COBALTO+ - Atmosphere Ft. Lilith. Having worked previously reworking some remakes like Blue Monday, Dirty Talk and Lucky Star, I-Robots rework was heavily influenced by the works of those music greats and the sound from New Order to Kraftwerk - completing the circle of musical inspiration that knows no borders. This release celebrates an era of sound that blurs the sounds between post-punk, Italo, Pop and other Electronic sounds.

-COBALTO+ themselves are an Italian band best known for working recently with Tim Palmer, their “Atmosphere” track is a remake of Joy Division’s 1980 classic - featuring "Lilith" the ex singer of “Not Moving” an early 80’s kult Italian rock band: their remake first appeared on their -COBALTO+ 2018 LP "Citus Mutus" and we revisit this with our new I-Robots Reconstruction. A taste of what is to come as it is part of a forthcoming EP that will also include Luca Vera and Riggel remixes.

The excellent Opilec Music label is back with another package that perfectly straddles the divide between classicism and contemporariness. As well as offering up, fully licensed and in original form, the seminal track ‘Game One’ from techno innovators Infiniti aka Juan Atkins & Orlando Voorn, the label has enlisted some key remixes from I-Robots, Orlando Voorn and Santiago Salazar. The vinyl release contains three of these tracks, with the original and second Orlando Voorn remix being digital only delights.

Music by Infiniti aka Juan Atkins & Orlando Voorn has appeared previously on the Opilec Music label in the form of The Detroit People Mover EP, and Infiniti is their alias best known for dealing in the purest form of techno.
Active since the early nineties and releasing on labels like Tresor and Metroplex, it is a seminal project with enduring appeal.

In original form ‘Game One’ is a sleek and slick monster with firmly rooted kick drums, subtle ticking hi-hats and plenty of emotion an beauty in the taught synth lines that wobble at the centre of it all. Pure and classic Detroit techno comes no finer.

First up to remix is label head I-Robots with his ‘Reconstruction Take II’, which is a respectful and sympathetic re-work that elongates the track, makes it a little more subliminal and deep cut and simply lets it roll on and on.

Next up is L.A. producer Santiago Salazar, who has grown increasingly prominent in recent times with his exception take on deep house for labels like Finale Sessions and Rush Hour.
His version lets in more light than any of the others and kinks the techno rhythms into more house leaning forms, awash with day-break like pads and rising and falling synth lines that glow warm and bright. It’s a classy affair from start to finish.

The final tracks are from Orlando Voorn who turns in two magic reworks. The first is a slowed down and heavyweight dub rework, which features plenty of large open spaces of sumptuous echo. The textures are smooth, metallic and shiny and this one really pulls you deep into a different world way under the surface where the original’s melodies are gone and instead the synths are much more raw and rugged.
His second digital only ‘beatless mix’ is a blissful and soothing exercise in ambiance that manages to echo the sentiments of the original in the subtlest of ways.

Artwork for this essential package sees Alan Oldham restyling the famous Spirit of Detroit statue, a large monument in the city designed in 1955. It’s the cherry on top of a very tasty techno cake indeed.

Next up on the hard working Opilec Music label is a two-part EP from Psilocybe Odyssey, aka Italians Giorgio Giri and Marco Lentano. This pair has worked together for over a decade; take their inspiration from the likes of the Idjut Boys and Mateo & Matos and have DJ’ed in top clubs in Ibiza, the UK and Berlin.

In 2008 they started producing music and soon hooked up with labels like Bear Funk, Electric Minds and Under The Shade, today Mushrooms Project is a name known around the globe as a go to for slo-mo electronica. The pair do deep, druggy, chunky mid tempo grooves, sometimes more Balearic, sometimes just hypnotic, but always with plenty of charm. 
Their first album has just been released by Leng Records but here they drop a rather special selection for Turin based label Opilec Music.

All tracks here are long musical journeys that are made from acoustic instruments like flutes (played by Luca Roccatagliati, a member of Italian duo Ajello and Dimitri From Paris collaborator), hang drums (by Marco Selvaggio), bass, guitars (by Ivan “King” Torelli and Francesco Copelli) and percussion and make for truly magical and soothing listening.

‘Odyssey I’ (another version of which was included in the We Are Opilec...! Vol. II compilation) is a lush bit of summery sound awash with lazy, rippling guitar riffs, twinkling cosmic soul and blissed out Balearic vibes. It swells and flows perfectly naturally, with big and dramatic bass notes dropping in to change direction just when needed.

‘Odyssey II’ is a more purposeful track with a compelling mid tempo kick drum driving the whole thing along. Above it various drum hits, echoing guitar riffs and silvery bits of percussion all help to create a truly soothing, cosmic bit of music.

‘Odyssey III’ is a perfect slow-mo chugger of the sort that DJs including Andrew Weatherall and Ewan Pearson will no doubt love – it’s deep and full of reverb, is peppered with rich sounding percussion and glowing guitars. It transports you to a heavenly place as soon as it starts playing and goes through many subtle evolutions throughout its 15 minutes run time.

Last but by no means least, ‘Odyssey IV’ flutters and sparkles as it lazily rolls on lumpy drums. The distant sound of vocals bring plenty of human atmosphere to proceedings as golden strings and low-down riffs all work you into a hip swaying place of musical heavenliness.

This is pure and perfect music that sooths mind, body and soul in a truly magical fashion from start to finish.

The much loved We Are Opilec! compilation series hits volume number three in summer 2016. Featuring fantastic tracks compiled by label boss I-Robots, this edition is mostly dedicated to new talents from different countries around the world. Ahead of the full release comes this excellent six track sampler that more than
whets the whistle for the rest of the album.

Opilec takes its title from a book by writer and cubist painter, Josef Čapek, who is also said to have invented the term robot. As such it is a project deeply influenced by thinking about how technology is not an enemy of humans but a helpful extension of our mind. Italo disco, Chicago house and Detroit techno, early 80’s synth, electro and Krautrock sounds all make their way onto the label and they proudly claim “no sound is too taboo” as this diverse and worldly new release proves.

The first cut is from Afrodyssey Orchestra, an instrumental ensemble from Athens-Greece whose influences span jazz, funk, psychedelic, traditional West African dance music and percussion as well as Greek musical culture. Their infectious style stems from an experimental conversation between these different musical forms and traditions. Their brilliant ‘Disco Mountain’ is full of funk, organic trumpet lines and skipping drums. It’s fun and authentic, playful and groovy.

Next up, Djembe Monks is a trio from Zimbabwe that merge house music and African percussion into one. Infectious and rhythmic, real percussionists are at the heart of the band and here ‘Kosomoro’ ft. Mzoe7 is a perfect summer tune with Afro vocals, dubby drums and soul infused chords that will make any outdoor terrace party really go off. After that, label boss I-Robots aka Gianluca Pandullo steps up. Pandullo is a fine DJ and producer who makes and plays anything from jazz to Latin to funk to electro. His ‘Glamouflage’ is a masterful concoction with fat bass riffs, tumbling toms and warm funk at its core.

Then comes Italian Mark Evemport, a DJ since he was 16 and someone who has a classic house sound rooted in the like of Keri Chandler and Louie Vega. He serves up ‘Klin’ which is a tangling deep techno cut with sine tingling chords and soft, shuffling drums really sweeping you off your feet.

The fine fifth offering is from another Italian, Mel, who takes cues from 80s synth and grunge bands as well a micro house and IDM, amongst other things, offers ‘Cut #1-2’ as reconstructed by I-Robots. It is a slick and quick techno track with real Detroit heritage in its minimalistic and hypnotic bones. Closing out the package is Popsicle’s ‘Wormhole’ which is superb slice of transcendent cosmic disco with mournful synths hanging heavy
in the air above driving drums and brooding bass.

These six tracks are fascinating indeed and with artwork coming from Tamami Saito of Little Yorke Japan this is once again a fantastic project carefully conceived and compiled by the tireless I-Robots and his Opilec label.

Opilec Music is back with another culturally significant release and one which is the first part of a forthcoming compilation series project entitled I-Robots - Turin Dancefloor Express - Piedmont Area Rare Grooves, Disco & Not Disco Sounds. It features a seminal Italo disco track by Johnson Righeira (who also re-recorded the vocals specially for the 2016 Remakes) in its original 1981 demo form as well as with reconstructions by the label boss I-Robots plus acclaimed Italian disco stars Baldelli &
Dionigi.

This cult and pioneering track was found on a 1981 C90 tape in the vaults of Susanna Massaia, a close friend and fan of the man who made it, namely the legendary Johnson. He is the original solo songwriter of the tune and its great chorus of “Vamos a la playa, oh, oh, oh”... He recorded it with the mighty Monuments band at TKS studio and years after he formed Righeira (aka the duo of Johnson and Michael) and the track was produced with la Bionda and went on to sell more than three million copies, making it an evergreen and still classic hit in the worldwide disco scene. Hearing this track in early original form is a real landmark moment that takes us back to the hugely influential Turin scene of the 80s and re-writes the history of early Italo.

In original form ‘Vamos A La Playa’ is a dark and broody disco beat with tight drums and hits, robotic, de-humanised vocals and futuristic synths that laid a clear blueprint for years of dance music to come.
The I-Robots Reconstruction is crisp and clean, with even more magical synth lines stitched in and a more spooky lead.

Contemporary stars Baldelli & Dionigi then step up to produce some great new versions. The first is a Cosmic Remake that updates the track for modern dance floors with hard hitting drums and stiff percussion that really demands you dance. I-Robots then edits this with a subtle touch that makes it even more direct.

Then comes a brilliant Cosmic Bizarre Remake that is skittish and kinetic, with busy synths and warm organ chords bringing lots of fast energy to the beat and finally, plus a Bizarre Remake that focuses on the freaky synth lines and a straight Remake that offers yet another sympathetic twist full of vibrant colours. Lastly for the remakes, I-Robots edits this one into a smooth and retro sounding but futuristic cut that bubbles and bristles with disco energy. Last but not least is an original demo version of ‘Disco Volante’ a much more carefree and playful track with quick and slick drums, fluttering vocals and al fresco synths bringing the good times.

Once again this is a vital project from the ever conscientious and culturally astute Opilec Music label.

This is the fourth edition of the hugely popular compilation series from Opilec Music, with the 1st V.A. dropping all the way back in 2013, there has been a lot of great records between then and now and the fourth compilation project shows that this label still has plenty of goodies up its sleeve.​

For those who are unaware. Opilec Music is an eclectic Italian Label headed by the much respected artist I-Robots. The busy man takes various roles within the label such as Label AR / Owner / Art director / Re-mixer & Artist. The label is deeply built around Isaac Asimov's way of thinking about how technology is not the enemy of humankind but a positive influence and a real and useful extension of our mind. ​​

I-Robots uses these compilations to cleverly pull the focus back to his new artists, underground artists, forthcoming heaters and bombs that have flown under the radar. A strategy that really lets the fan base of the label see the labels progression making these projects much more than a compilation but rather a book note of things past presents and future. ​​

With this 4th project we see a mammoth 24 tracks from Indie Dance to Italo and from Synth to Techno, presented including some sterling established names such as DJ Skull, Daniele Baldelli, Schaltkreis Wassermann, Scene De La Boheme, No More & I-Robots himself to name a few, alongside a whole of host of new fresh artists and tracks to enjoy.​

"Opilec" (1917) is a story by Josef Čapek, a writer and cubist painter, brother of Karel Čapek, the man who is supposed to invent the term "robot" that originally meant "servant". From this important etymology, that truly inspired all Isaac Asimov literature, comes Opilec Music by Gianluca "I-Robots" Pandullo's fervent mind.

Opilec Music is a label project deeply built on all Asimov way of thinking about how technology is not an enemy of human genre but a help and a real and useful extension of our mind. The robot is our friend and the music too. Opilec Music feels contaminated by old school Disco, Chicago House & Detroit Techno, the early 80's Italo & Synth, Electro & Cosmic Disco and by the seminal Krautrock & Electronic musical genres that differently as strongly have conditioned the history and world dance conception.
