Shapednoise is Italian producer Nino Pedone, and over the last few years he’s built a name for himself issuing music that bridges the gap between the basement and the club. Noise and techno are proven bedfellows at this point (for better or for worse), but Pedone pushes harder and further, and ‘Different Selves’, as the title suggests, is his most diverse and challenging work to date.
Fusing the industrial grind of early Godflesh (Justin K. Broadrick even makes an appearance on opening track ‘Enlightenment’) with the raw power of mid 90s D&B, the visceral pleasure of early grime and the ominous scrape of dark ambient, Shapednoise navigates unfamiliar territory expertly.

Whether traversing beatless outworld landscapes with ’Travels in the Universe of the Soul’ or assaulting the senses with the acidic, rhythmic blast of ‘Heart Energy Shape’ there’s a sense that Shapednoise is exploring his own boundaries.

‘Different Selves’ is a challenging, unruly selection of tracks; not a deconstruction of club music, but an amplification, blowing every sound out to near cacophony. the result is truly explosive.

Going to do some basic patch notes for this one for anyone interested..

This track is a recording of a stereo mix of 4 inputs coming from my eurorack modular synth going into a mixer, being played live as it recorded.

There are 3 voices:

~One stereo voice which is Rings, the resonator module going into the Dual Looping Delay by 4ms. The DLD left and right outputs are going to the mixer.  Rings is being fed a white noise source on the 2nd polyphony setting and in the Modulated/inharmonic strings setting.  Rings is being sequenced by Rene with the quantized voltage output. This is making the main melodic flute/string sounds, as well as the occasional jitters, stereo spreading, and plucks.

~The second voice is a Mangrove oscillator running on a 4 step sequence by Pressure Points.  It is un-quantized and playing 3 notes very low in the mix, and the occasional detuning sounds are from those notes.

~The third voice is the bass, a Verbos Harmonic Oscillator, with the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 8th harmonics being modulated by Just Friends.  This creates the pulsing drone effect.  That is going through the Three Sisters filter, which I start to open wide and make self oscillate towards the end of the piece.

At the end of the piece I am mainly interacting with the Three SIsters,  the DLD (to loop the glitchy static like sounds), and giving the Mangrove some FM from one band of the 4ms SMR.

With only a year following on from the release of her second album ‘Awake But Always Dreaming’ to widespread acclaim (Voted No.1 Album Of the Year – Electronic Sound Magazine), ‘Mary Casio: Journey to Cassiopeia’, explores one person's journey to outer space, by recounting the story of an unknown, elderly, pioneering, electronic musical stargazer and her lifelong dream to leave her terraced home in the mining town of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, to see Cassiopeia for herself. With artwork by Grammy award winning designer Jonathan Barnbrook (David Bowie collaborator on albums ‘Blackstar’ and ‘The Next Day’ ) and the complete brass band and rhythm section recorded live on location in The Barnsley Civic Theatre with Peter Gabriel’s Real World studio team, this exclusive album combines Peel’s detailed, analogue synth layered production and her expressive flair for performance with ‘Tubular Brass’, featuring the top UK championship brass band players. The oldest track I have uploaded so far. I recorded "Schall" back in 1995...I stopped playing it (the original version) a long time ago but last weekend I did play it again and to my amusement and utter disbelieve - it went down in a storm. Nice one. So I thought some of you might like to find it it here...
PS: The vocal is sampled from "Adonis - Acid Pokin'" and I have no idea what it says!
