In the way Joseph Campbell united cultures across time and space with his Power of Myth, Australia's Kalya Scintilla celebrates the ancient mythologies that connect humans across all walks of life. Bringing narrative back into the electronic music world, Scintilla's desire is to not only inspire fans with his wildly imaginative soundscapes, but bring an element of performance and storytelling into his live shows and studio work that hearkens back to our primal ancestors sharing their knowledge of the world as they huddled around campfires.

Here's what Eve Olution, Kalya Scintilla's partner in the creation of the Open Ancient Eyes mythology, had to say about the album:

Weaving myth into the fabric of this music, Kalya Scintilla takes this concept album to new heights in offering multi-layered depth and intentional precision on every level. The story begins with a voice calling to us to remember something we have forgotten; as each song begins we find rich tapestries of musical architecture to explore the landscapes from all around the world. Africa, India, Asia, and many more to paint the pictures of something rooted within us from our past all awaiting us to reclaim. Each song playing out like a fragment of ourself spread across the planet as we travel down each one like a pathway leading to a greater knowing. This album invites us into our imagination and asks us to journey inwards towards the calling to enter the temple of our heart and Open Ancient Eyes.

Eve Olution, along with famed digital artist and longtime Tipper collaborator Johnathan Singer, will join Kalya Scintilla the road this fall as he brings this story to life. Dates along the west coast, into the midwest, and down to the southeast over the next few months will allow more fans to find themselves immersed in this new sonic paradigm.

Following on from his Tamoanchan EP inspired by the landscapes and diversity of Mexico, El Búho presents "Chinampa" - the twin EP this time inspired by the sprawling Mexico City or Distrito Federal. Chinampa comes from the Nahuatl work for an old agricultural practice of growing crops on the lake beds in the Valley of Mexico, often on floating islands that can still be seen today if you take one of the beautiful trajinera canal boats in the iconic area of Xochimilco. Though the album is a dedication to "DF´s" urban sprawl, it digs down deeper to find inspiration in the cities inherent ties to water and to ways of life - past and present. 

"Salto de Agua", now a bustling metro stop used to mark the end of the ancient Chapultepec aqueduct - one of the series of canals that allowed the Aztecs to navigate the city. Meanwhile, "Al Tianguis" is a nod to the city´s renowned market´s (tianguis), a tradition that has existed for hundreds of years and remains a crucial part of city life and culture. "Pasale" is a word that you hear all over the city, but especially on its public transport system like the infamous green pesero buses that race through the city streets, booming out classic cumbias or banda and the unwritten rules of traveling on these beasts. The final track, "Temporada de Lluvia", was inspired by the immense downpours during the city´s rainy season from June to September when for a few hours in the afternoon the city is transformed back into its ancient watery past. The city swells with water as the major roads around the city become flooded canals and chaos descends. 

UK born, Robin Perkins AKA El Búho is now based in Paris but spent the last two years living, working, playing and producing music in México City.

Born in 1961 to a farming family in Korin, a poor village 30 miles from the nearest town in southern Mali, his fate seemed to be to work the farm his father worked with his four wives and 14 other childen. But Bagayogo was drawn to music, first playing the daro, a bell that keeps farm workers laboring. From there, at ag 12, he took up the six-string young man's harp, or kamele n'goni, a common instrument throughout the Wassalou area of the country. He started singing and soon was making a name for himself locally. At the age of 30, he decided to try his hand in the Malian capital, Bamako, where he met a couple of Frenchmen who had just opened a studio and needed a kamele n'goni player. The end result was his first, very traditonally oriented cassette (cassette being the ubiquitous music medium in African and much of the world). It didn't make any money, but it was his. After three months, Bagayogo returned home, but came back to Bamako two years later to make his second cassette, which still brought no success. This time, however, he remained in Bamako, becoming an apprentice bus driver. Depressed at his failure as a musician, he began drinking and taking pills; his wife left and it seemed as if his life had bottomed out. Eventually, however, he decided to turn his life around and began playing and singing again. He returned to the studio, where he met French engineer Yves Wernert and Foamed Koné, who'd been a guitarist in Ali Farka Touré's band. What they wanted to attempt was something radically different for African music, mixing traditional music with beats and samples. At first Bagayogo was unsure, if only because it was so unlike anything he'd done. He'd never worked with drum machines before and the process proved complex. In late 1998, though, Sya was released, selling a phenomenal 15,000 copies and getting Bagayogo an award in 1999 as Malian song's Brightest New Hope and the nickname of Techno Issa, in addition enabling him to finally quit his job as an apprentice bus driver. In 2002, Timbuktu, the second album from the trio's collaboration, appeared.
