A cocada nasceu no berço cultural da comunidade do Amaro Branco em Olinda, antiga colônia de pescadores que possui um forte legado e identidade com o coco de roda. Surgiu como grupo no ano de 2000, herdeiros deste tradicional costume local e defensores da cultura popular, A Cocada resgata a tradição dos tiradores de coco, preservando suas origens com autenticidade. As composições são em grande parte autorais e falam da vivência de pessoas simples, ligadas ao mar, das cidades de Recife e Olinda e da simplicidade e espiritualidade de um povo. Outros ritmos da nossa cultura também influenciam o grupo como: samba de roda, ciranda, caboclinho, maracatu e afoxé. As apresentações contam com duas alfaias, congas, caixa, pandeiro e ganzá, as músicas cantadas com entusiasmo pelos integrantes são acompanhadas pela marcação dos passos do coco pelos casal bailarinos e da palma de mão do público que se contagia.
