Independent music label MYR proudly announces the release of the third EP of 2023: "Shadows of the Night", is another release from versatile artist, DJ, producer and live act Goeran Meyer. Following his impressive releases "Alone with my Thoughts" and "Random Hill", Goeran once again takes us on a profound and driving journey through his creative musical world. The EP includes three amazing mixes: a vocal mix, an instrumental mix and a vocal edit by Mario Navajo.

The journey through "Shadows of the Night" begins slowly and mysteriously with a percussive intro consisting of finely tuned drum settings. After some breathtaking breaks, paired with stirring African vocals, the track gradually builds up into an analogue sound piece. This is where the varied synthesizer and arpeggio build-ups kick in, giving the track an energetic and driving character. The pads and basslines blend together perfectly and lead the listener through a variety of moods. Finally, the track opens up and unfolds a mix of deepness and energy that sweeps the listener along and encourages them to dance.

The collaboration with Mario Navajo makes this release an amazing overall package. Together, the two artists created a remix in a friend's studio called Limetree Studios that features unique sound structures and Mario's engaging vocals. This remix rounds off the EP perfectly and makes you want more.

"Shadows of the Night" is an EP that takes us on a journey through different moods while maintaining its deep and driving character. This release is a refreshing and welcome change of pace that is perfect for the summer months and will leave you wanting more energetic music.

Berlin-based DJ and production duo Tale of Us take a step back from their busy touring and production schedule to compile the latest instalment of Renaissance's 'The Mix Collection' series. 

“We put this mix together in Mexico, looking out at a beautiful sea in a magical spot in the Yucatan, surrounded by friends and label mates as we recovered from an intense new year's and BPM rush. It was the perfect setting to take on something like this, looking back at the year behind us, not concerned so much by genres and boundaries as much as by assembling a musical picture of where we're at, where we've been and most importantly a little bit of where we're going. Each of the two mixes is a journey unto itself but together they can be seen as our musical chiaroscuro, reflecting a bit of the two sides of the way we think both about DJing and producing. It's hard to confine ourselves to just over 2 hours when there is so much music we've fallen in love with but this is the best reflection of this moment in time for us. We hope you enjoy it as much as we have.”

Throughout their first mix the duo move effortlessly between the driving aesthetics of Kollektiv Turmstrasse and anthemic highs of Scuba to more experimental and angular remixes from Baths and Four Tet. The second mix takes a distinctly more mininal approach, with the textures of Daniel Avery, Recondite, Robert Hood and Extrawelt's productions taking the driving seat and remixes from the likes of Donato Dozzy and DJ Koze switching up already excellent originals. Across both mixes Tale of Us have managed to balance the deep, melodic, upbeat and sometimes more challenging elements of electronic music through careful selection and programming to ensure both have the flow and finesse that listeners have come to expect of a Renaissance release.

Tale of Us are certainly no strangers to the decks, between throwing their own 'Just This' secret loft parties in Milan, regular fixtures at renowned clubs such as Berlin's Watergate, Ibiza's DC10 as well as live and DJ sets at festivals such as Sonar and Movement. Alongside this, their productions have caught the attention of Seth Troxler, Shaun Reeves, Ryan Crosson and Lee Curtiss, who released their debut EP on Visionquest in 2011. 

The Mix Collection series saw it's inaugural 1994 release from Sasha & John Digweed, who set a new standard for the DJ compilation format. Since then Renaissance has undergone a musical shift, with recent contributions from M.A.N.D.Y., Gui Boratto and now Tale of Us helping to bring the original spirit of the brand to a new generation of music aficionados.

Flipping the record over, we hear Robag shift Vondelpark's pop tune further into dubbed-out DJ tool territory with “Habay Latoff NB”, placing it atop a hand-cranked mechanical pulse that's more tech than house. The vocals are reduced to a mere atmospheric aspect, letting Robag's buzzing and clattering do the talking, as the underlying drawn-out melodic phrases breeze past, with plenty of auditory curveballs to make your ears smile. Grab the vinyl version now—R&S won't be offering these remixes digitally until later in the year.

What is it in music we like? Is it rhythm? Melodies? The groove, or that part where you just can't stop dancing to it? Or is it the feeling that you are totally in touch with the song; or that subtle unexpected surprise when the beat finally drops? For Jaksa Pavicevic, it's all of that... and more! What makes a song really stand out to him is emotion. With his label he tries to bring us the finest house and techno music- crossing borders, genre-blending.

Born in 2005, 'A Must Have' built itself a nice foundation. 2007 kicked off the first few releases by head honcho Jaksa Pavicevic, Tom D Vox and Sydney Roy, followed by remixes from Gui Sheffer aka Tropical Highlight and Sandji. The label soon drew attention. By summer 2008 the label was brought under Proton Management, kicking off a new era for the label. Soon 'A Must Have' became a firm base for young, upcoming producers like Marsbeing, Bollo and Shane Robinson.

2010 saw the first album released on the label. Soundprank's 'Endgame', a 12 tracker debut album by this talented Canadian, gained wide attention from artists like Chloe Harris, John Digweed, Nick Warren and Taho. By this year, Jaksa's unique eye for talent also brought some interesting artists like Leigh Myles and Ju.N to the label. While their original work may not be what one might expect from a dance label, a great team of remixers like Pacco & Rudy B, Qbical, Stefan Vincent, Royal Sapien and Sandji will indulge us with some rather tasty releases.

'A Must Have'; a rather bold name for a label, stands for Jaksa's personal experience when listening to new unsigned music. When it's good music, he simply must release it... And it's exactly this attitude that makes his label's releases truly A Must Have!
