Firstly we want to thank everyone for contributing your creativity, generosity and positivity to our fundraiser for the ongoing humanitarian crisis that is ongoing across Europe. We hope you are all safe and well, and wish the best to your friends and families. 

The last three years have been incredibly difficult on us all, and it is inspiring to see our united music scene come together once again in response to the atrocities in Ukraine. We hope for peace as soon as possible, and we must prepare to rebuild and help the affected people to recover from this tragic conflict.

Sadly, the people of Ukraine will need support for years to come. For this reason, our fundraiser will be making weekly donations to Closer Kyiv's fundraiser appeal. We will make regular posts on social media regarding the fundraising process to show how much this album has raised.

The ever impressive The Promises imprint is pleased to announce the latest sonic journey from label founder DoubtingThomas, with the record being served up a reminder of his astute attention to detail and an eye for the subtle, the glorious and the emphatically diverse.

Aurélien Rivière, the man behind the DoubtingThomas name, has been active since the late 90s, and since he began the journey under the alias he has explored the absolute limits of his sound. Easily flittering between Deep House, Techno and Minimal, DoubtingThomas has crafted a sound built on an elastic dynamism between rhythm and melody, with the expertly crafted percussion serving up a rock solid foundation for the most delicate of instrumentation. It's a style that has ensnared listeners, with each new release doing much to keep things continuously exciting and effortlessly engaging. His craft has always been in high demand, with releases on the likes of Soul Jazz Records, AMAN, Eastenderz, Lessizmo:r, 2020 Vision and many more, alongside composing TV and film scores for Universal Publishing and the Sesame Music Agency.

His latest release, ‘The Promises 05’, is the newest addition to the excellent Promises series. All four of the previous records have had something special about them, with 05 really going above and beyond to provide as in-depth an experience as possible, and right from the moment ‘All Yours’ begins (which features Pheek, who also mastered the record) there is a sense of the world being pulled from beneath the collective feet as the ascension begins. There is something here for fans of all things Housey and Techno-y, with tracks such as the opener and ‘Pourpre’ having an intrinsic deepness to them, with flavourful beats interlaced with considered, pulsating melodic tones. There are a number of driving and emphatic cuts, which include the likes of ‘Krajina’, ‘Lone Spendor’, Steadfastness’ and ‘Game of Drones’, all of which strike right into the heart of proceedings and focus on providing grooves that could move mountains. ‘Diamond Bells’ embeds delightful textures into the mix, with blinkering lights permeating through the haze to great effect, harking back to the city at night as if on a journey that has no end. ‘Hard to Handle’ shifts the percussive perspective in all the right directions, with a distinctly up-tempo polyrhythm providing a basis for a pounding bass sequence to come forth. To wrap things up, there are two exquisite downtempo leaning tunes in the form of ‘Maybe For Certain’ and ‘The Test of Time’, with both displaying inherent dub leaning feels which work alongside the bombastic up-tempo numbers flawlessly.

DoubtingThomas’ latest journey is an expressionism of his craft, a thought provoking series of shifting narratives that pair an intuitive sense of progression with extensively meaningful melodies. The music draws you in and finds plenty of time for undulations and shifts in waveform, with so many structures moved past as life and music begin to merge into one spectrum of being. The music is paired with beautiful artwork courtesy of Sarah Malan, and this remains the final visual piece of the jigsaw that makes up the latest excellent effort from Rivière. So why not take a dive through an extensive and emotionally polished rhythm experience, it's quite the trip….

Colombia x Romania
Both are cultural expressions that reflect the diversity, history, and identity of their peoples. Romanian music is characterized by its melodic richness, the use of instruments like the violin, flute, and accordion, and its influence from different ethnicities and regions, such as the Gypsies, Moldavians, and Transylvanians. Colombian music is also highly diverse, combining indigenous, African, and European elements, adapting to the various climates and landscapes of the country, like cumbia, vallenato, and bambuco.

These two types of music can harmoniously blend, creating a unique and original sound that celebrates musical diversity and creativity.

On this occasion, the union goes beyond tradition; thick and sequenced kicks with long harmonics intertwine with the percussions; the dry and raw bass does not limit the voices that can be heard in the background; this is what the fusion of two minimal worlds brings us. The precise brushstrokes, contributed to these musical pieces, perfectly contrast with the structure and style of each artist. We could say that a new sound has been achieved, and the minds behind the creation venture into new unions.

After making its mark as a significant release on the Hummingbird By BPZ imprint, the Future Legend “Mental Menthology” LP sits comfortably amongst the collections of modern-day electronic music fanatics, so it only seems fitting that this February the label will release a special remix package following on from the album. The three-track remix EP meanders through fantastic productions from DoubtingThomas (Eastenderz, Organic), Georgios Papamanoglou (Deep Series, Mixx Rec), and label founder Benjamin Philippe Zulauf, all of these affiliated with the label in past times. 

The opening track “Tickling Whispers” is remixed by the established DoubtingThomas who shows no signs of slowing down in recent times. The remix consists of trickling and pensive synths that maneuver around a clean drum arrangement.
