Black Mythology is the fourth EP by Apashe on Kannibalen Records. Leaving behind the funk influences of his last EP, Funky Family, Apashe has turned his synths and drums into overdrive, creating a pair of booming trap anthems that should propel him further into the upper echelons of the electronic music universe and solidify his status as the new God of Bass.   

The first track of the EP, Black Gold, is the continuation of his September smash hit free release, Battle Royale. Black Gold is a stomping trap banger, filled with epic orchestral samples and anchored by an insistent, guttural vocal sample. The second track, Forsaken, is a monster collaboration between Apashe, Dabin and Kai Wachi. Conceived during a marathon studio session at Apashe’s studio in Montreal, it contains signature sounds from all three producers. With elements of glitch hop, trap and drumstep and featuring the vocals of Ariane Zita, Forsaken has the potential to be a huge chart-topper.

Paving the way for the new era of DJs, Lexer’s ascension to deep house superstar has been rapid since turning his hand to production in 2012, with the likes of Bakermat, Oliver Schories, Klangkarussel, Alle Farben and Tom Novy all supporting the German’s signature sound. Joining the dots between Europe’s hottest cities, the promising trailblazer can reminisce back on a packed touring schedule with performances from Amsterdam to Zurich, Berlin to Paris - not to mention plenty of festivals appearances in between. 

Now with his impending release on Kittball, Lexer delivers yet another reason for industry leaders to take heed of his talents. Melodic breakdowns and a pensive hook are the reasoning behind the title of ‘Thoughtful’, a track that emits sunshine and solstice with every lasting note. The rumbling kick drums of ‘Rusty Heart’ make for a heavier number, whilst playful bass stabs, charming melodies and glorious strings make for a testament to Lexer’s rocketing talents as a producer.

First up on remix duties is Kittball favourite in.deed, whose rendition of ‘Rusty Heart’ introduces a fuzzy bass hook and sultry atmospherics to a positively upbeat cut. Pulling apart the original and reconstructing it into a completely different creature, Ron Flatter then ties up the release with a stripped back and understated renovation that saunters along amiably.

Euphoria

Time to get those hands up in the air. Euphoria harks back to the old rave piano days but with a big new breaky twist. This one rises and rises, filtering in strings and real smooth piano line that just make you want to touch the sky, before dropping so hard, you are going to need a shovel to dig yourself back out again. This one will take you on a roller coaster ride of musical influenced emotions, leaving you reaching for the replay button over and over.

Wild Bass

Bringing up the tempo and finishing the E.P. on an even bigger high, Wild Bass will pull your ears off and beat them to death. Bringing in a real jump up and bounce feel, this track has a hint of dub to it that will keep you grooving all the way through. With the drum step first half leading straight in to Drum & Bass, it is full of surprises. In keeping with the last two tracks, big leads, stomping drums and huge bass lines are on the menu in this track.

A bass music icon from the days of his Platinum-selling UK garage anthem I Don't Smoke Da Reefer, Deekline recently released (with Ed Solo) new album Bounce 'n' Shake, a tour de force of booty bass, jungle, soul, breaks, dubstep, drumstep and drum 'n' bass sent down with the kind of assurance one might expect from a DJ who has sent bodies flying round the room at club venues across the globe for more than a decade. Expect brazen and bombastic badboy anthems accompanied by skilled, selective scratch techniques capable of hyping up even the most taciturn of crowds from an artist who recently proved his hipster credentials with remixes for the likes of Lethal Bizzle and Laidback Luke.

Described by no less than Fatboy Slim as "The Thinking Man's Grandmaster Flash", this Brighton-based DJ and producer is a scratch daddy for the bass music generation, an artist who is as likely to beat juggle dubstep rollers as he is to throw down live remixes of classic hip-shaking 12"s (check out his barmy take on DJ Shadow's Midnight in a Perfect World or infamous four-turntable reworking of Fatboy Slim's Right Here Right Now on YouTube for a taste of what to expect).
