Sound Transitions is honored to bring you an excellent six track EP from Portland's own 5HTTP. The six tracks that comprise 5HTTP's Jel EP are varied and unique while all carrying the hallmarks of his expansive sound. They range from house thumpers to new age influenced spa dance to overdriven house smashers to mid-tempo hypnosis to bedroom headphone dives. The entire EP is filled with personality and emotion. This isn't some cold, unfeeling electronic album. This is something teeming with organic feeling and life. With a handful of prior releases on labels like Germany's A Friend In Need and Scotland's What Matters To You, 5HTTP has clearly spent time and effort honing his craft and Jel EP shines with the work and emotion that has been poured into it. Conceived at the heel of Italy’s boot-shaped peninsula in Apulia, Patrick Belaga’s Blutt makes music for the unruly imagination. The title is an old German word for ‘naked’, ‘bare’, but it can also mean ‘blood’ when spelt blut. Take away another letter and it makes ‘butt’. None of these definitions and adaptations were what prompted the classically-trained composer and cellist to name his second album with a word simulating the sound of a punctured artery. That came later.

Blutt’s nine woozy compositions are inspired by a contemplative road trip with a friend, and the mysterious muffled music heard from an unidentified source. It was a combination of jazz and classical music that haunted Belaga’s wanderings through the Byzantine town Gallipoli, and soon infected his dreams of long-gone civilizations. This record is its outcome, where organic instrumentals and electronic production merge into a sound that’s both contemporary and ancient. Samples of mewing incantations and tape hiss sway atop the waltzing thud of piano chords on “Sigh”. Composite layers of Belaga’s cello play in downcast harmony on “Rust”. There’s a wistful sense for the romantic, in the eerie rhythm of a piece like “Momentum”. The quarter tones of an Eastern European and Middle Eastern folk scale probe a profound melancholy via Kai Knight’s violin. Its notes are haunted by a field recording of running water on “Unsoft”, echoes of panpipes and a Jew’s harp on opener “Lilt”.

As a consummate composer and performer known for his work with artists Wu Tsang, boychild, Josh Johnson and Asma Maroof, Belaga’s Blutt is itself marked by flawless collaborations. Vocalist and instrumentalist Jazmin Romero sings and composes the surreal melodies of “Grey Eye”. Multidisciplinary dance artist and producer Riley Watts contributes to the muted, motorik movement of “The Tunnel is a Tower”. Together, the record plays as a stunning soundtrack to the strangeness of sleeping, and the heartbreaking transience of time. Like an intense dream half-remembered, the emotions persist after waking but for the sharp machinations just outside of the mind’s reach.

Christine Renée holds a residency at the Lot Radio since 2017. Her energy, musical dexterity and pop-up, booth installations has led the chat room to dub her, The-Queen-of-the-Lot.
She is also head curator at Brooklyn’s audiophile venue Public Records.
Her musical life began in a town that exhales music, Austin TX with a record collecting, guitar-playing father. Live music and the practice-room culture that goes with it, are integral to the CR fabric.
It’s 2001, jump to New York. She is a resident DJ at the LES hub LIT, slinging 6 hours of punk and newwave vinyls every Friday night. As a DJ and record store clerk on 7th and A, she sat at the epicenter of the downtown arts scene, defined by Rub-n-Tug’s Saturdays at Gavin Brown’s gallery/bar, Passerby. She captured the spirit of an era that will always be remembered as enchanting and vibrant.
After 5 years of total devotion to the nightlife and the music it oozed, she produced a movie with the artist aka “Mrs Dash Snow” called, Stamina. It was a swan song, a farewell to NY in the form of a 36-hour dance party modeled after, They Shoot Horses Don’t They; recreated at the Guggenheim in 2015. Post filming, she landed in Los Angeles  where she held residencies at the Standard Hotels and danced at warehouse parties headlining Dj Harvey who was her mentor for many moons before moving back to Brooklyn in 2012.

After 5 years in the Shanghai local scene where she was involved as a dj, and live performer, Elise Massoni moved to Berlin to focus entirely on her music production.
She rapidly got noticed for her subtle blend of broken rhythms and delicate electro which landed her a first EP on Man Band records having her material remixed by Forest Drive West on 2 occasions.
   Being one of those wide-ranging selectors unafraid of drastic bpm and genre shifts, masterfully oscillating between fast techno, IDM, acid, and a smattering of ghetto and electro, Elise marked some notable appearances in some of Europe's most renowned clubs & festivals such as Kaiku (Helsinki), Rex Club (Paris), Dimensions and Flow festival.
   Finally relocating to Paris, Elise started her monthly residency on Rinse France in late 2018 and continues to push her sound forward and signed an opening reshape on François X's Irregular Passion reshape album (2019).
In 2020 she composed 2 short pieces to accompany artists' performances (cf. Tout ce qui ne tourne pas tombe - Chevalive Corporation, Espace Niemeyer Paris).
