@pastpalms  is a New York-based producer creating lush music to water your plants to. The music aims to encapsulate the feeling of surrounding yourself with an oasis of tropical houseplants while living in a grey, nature-less
city.

The producer is preparing to release their third EP entitled 'Empyrean', which features a more Eastern-inflected sound palette. Inspired by the scores of Avatar The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, 'Empyrean' is a lush soundscape blooming with cascading harps, rainforest field recordings, ethereal strings, and warped vocal samples. The first single, 'Tropics', is premiering now ahead of the EP’s full release on April 30th

On 'Tropics', Past Palms says: "My vision for Past Palms has always been to encapsulate the feeling of bringing nature indoors while living in a nature-less place. With COVID-19 and lockdowns, I’ve found it more personally resonant than ever to bring plants indoors to nurture my innate connection to nature. As I hunkered down in my Brooklyn apartment this past year, I aspired to write music that felt like I was actually in the rainforest. I started ‘Tropics’ with a bed of jungle field recordings, cascading harp samples, and botanical textures. But I also felt the need to capture the environment I was actually in, so I included city elements like uptempo house beats and deep bass waves. It was important to me to keep that juxtaposition present between natural and unnatural elements."

Deprived of sanity, Paul Régimbeau aka Mondkopf found new territories of expression with "Spring Stories", a collection of post-rapture moods full of glorious chaos, ready to absorb and re-ignite all that is worn. 

As a phoenix raising from the ashes, Spring Stories captures the earth in full bloom. Darkness & Insanity looses it´s grips as the roots and fresh leaves creates a slow dance towards the sun. Similarily, sine-wave drones move around exploding electric guitar improvisations as new light beams on shadow cast corners. The album feels like a 60ies jam set in the post-world psychedelic underground. Heavy, absurd, beautiful and ready to sooth burnt out, depleted minds. Paul has citied that he´s affected as much by folk improvisors such as Master Wilburn Burchette & Robbie Basho as well as the doom drone of giants Earth & Sunn O))). Spring Stories invokes on these, while feeling like a personal blow-out, coming right from the core. Touching and grand, like spring itself.

The album also features Frederic D. Oberland on two tracks playing variously Duduk & Alto Saxophone. Lastly, The Necks drummer Tony Buck shakes & rattles all over the final - and seriously epic - piece “Continuation”, as the world aligns while the sun rises over its near-dead shape.
