Just testing the new VCA. I'm finally able to do the Redshift trick where you send the EG and a sequencer into the VCA to get what _sounds_ like EG modulation but really isn't. You can't do this with a normal VCA because it will just keep amplifying until you hit the rails whereas the 902 has a natural limit to how far it can amplify so it gives you a bit of a "compression" aspect when you start summing control signals into it.

The delay is an IK Multimedia X-Time on its tape delay algorithm.

Heavy on the new Valhalla DSP reverb on this one.  I'll Have to learn some restraint.  The chordal 'hits' is a modular patch using the Mutable Instruments Yarns to play 2 Rubicons and 2 Dixies.

Phenol (modular synth) meets Rings (Mutable Instruments' beloved module) in the fall's darkest techno-thriller...
Seriously, I keep hearing that that to get the most out of Rings, you should customize the input that goes into it; so here I focused on trying to get a bowed-string sound by feeding in noise with a slow attack + decay. That noise & its envelope come from the Phenol, as does the triangle sub-oscillator. The result is close enough to an epic cinematic string section that I'm declaring victory for tonight.
