It's been a while!

2021 was a year of discovery and discontent for me. While I wouldn't say that my tastes have changed, I learned a sound in trance that I thought had died years ago was still alive and well, while the modern sounds that I gravitated to grew more stale than ever. Part one of my 2021 reprise is highlighting the producers who are bringing back the sounds of the late 1990s and early 2000s. All of the tunes in this mix were released in 2021.

The launch of the Webb telescope is a monumental leap for space exploration, and will give scientists a better view of our neighbors and a clearer window of the past. Given how shit 2022 has been, the images coming from the gold dish are a welcome distraction. As is this music.
When I recorded this set, I was struck by how spacey the sounds are in this 2022 NuTrance revival goodie bag that is coming from small labels across the globe. Is it trance? Breaks? Electro? Something else? I honestly have no clue, but this music embodies the best parts of early trance and rave music. Enjoy this 3 hour impromptu journey through the stars, starting a mellow 110 working our way up to 145.

Active in the Bay Area scene since 2014, @kudeki is a DJ, Promoter, and Producer with a tilt towards the dark yet euphoric angle of dance music. Her activities as the Resident DJ of Noctuary - a party series she co-founded in 2017 with Alex McGeagh - help highlight the work of women/nonbinary artists previously unknown to San Francisco. She has also been a resident at San Francisco's Public Works since 2018 releasing a debut EP on Perfect Location Records the same year.

As a DJ she adapts to everything from Burning Man's Berghain analogue to daytime bliss at San Francisco Pride, sharing the stage with artists like Mike Servito, Luke Slater, Noncompliant, and more. She is known for spinning intricate sets featuring techno with heavy doses of electro, acid, industrial, and EBM flavor,
filled with equal parts fun, emotional depth and freedom.

I was reading recently about the Voyager mission. Crazy to think they are still tinkering with 45-year old spacecraft via the DSN (deep space network), as the probes continue their journey in to interstellar space. While we wait 22 hours to get data from the probe over 14.6 billion miles, we can enjoy a musical journey here today, recorded live on 9/4/22.
While this was being streamed, a few of us were yet-again discussing where this music fits genre-wise. Still not sure, but most agreed the music is a refreshing departure from what has become of the mainstream trance and progressive scene. Full of deep house and trance grooves, breaks, arps and ethereal melodies, with a psychedelic twist. Dark at times. Enjoy this 3.25 hour set, starting a mellow 120 working our way up to 150.
