Not one, not two, not three, not four, our premiere for the day comes via the 11th album from a trio known as Elektro Guzzi. Based out of Vienna, the band has built an impressive catalog of instrument driven electronica that grabs your ear and doesn’t let go. For over a decade they’ve been honing the sound, and precision necessary to excel, rare is an electronic band like this, and rarer still a club forward one. 

Liquid Center, from cover to cover showcases the breadth of their productions, from thumping peak time techno, to moody downtempo. Hitting all the stops in between. Rhythmic percussion and warm bass lines provide the base for most of this release. Each track building and building, highlighting the slight variations that can only come from a human source. Such a treat.

Solar, appearing towards the end of the album, provides a slow, chugging, groovy vibe. Carried by crisp percussion, the track develops with a restrained attitude, element after element. Steady on, steady on. Nonchalantly swelling with melody in a few peak moments before dissolving gracefully into its base components.

Solar, and in turn Liquid Center will be released on October 24th.

In his debut album, raptAGOG draws inspiration from imagined scenes of geological movement — tectonic plates shifting, subducting, and pressing against one another. This hidden but perpetual motion beneath us stores potential energy, waiting for the moment of release, when the earth begins to shift and reshape.

The album opens into a rugged, shifting landscape, where sounds roll and echo in gradual motion. This energy builds across the work, unfolding through cycles of tension and release. Earthy and textural sounds ground the work in a shifting and fracturing geology.

For this podcast, PEBMAC began with a single word: “Subjugation.” Like much of his work, it grew from a conceptual see or research question. In earlier sets, he explored activism and the narratives that emerge both before and after the act itself. “Subjugation felt like a natural continuation of that inquiry, it sits at the tension between comfort and resistance.” 

PEBMAC is drawn to what happens when things clash… when sounds that shouldn’t work together start to make sense in their own way. “I like to mix jungle with old field recordings from avant-garde performances or blend the sound of water dripping in a cave with an interrogation tape of a serial killer admitting he’s as insane as the system he lives in. I like to knit stories together, create chapters. Each set becomes a kind of collage archive and that mixed with the beauty of ambient - which creates an timeless effect without much drops and peaks - comes closest to the art of worldbuilding.”

If PEBMAC could leave listeners with one lingering emotion after hearing their mix, they’d describe it as “maybe the emotion you feel during Twin Peaks… I’m joking, but also not. I hope my music awakens that dark yet comforting feeling, the one that visits like a recurring dream. It just stays with you, familiar and strange, like remembering something that might never have happened.”

When thinking of a track he played that really moved him he answers, “The tracks that make the most impact are the ones I forget,” he says, quoting Wolfgang Tillmans: “the best photos I made were the ones I forgot to take. It can be something as nostalgic as Slipknot or The Offspring - which makes me think of my 8 year old me playing these on my discman. But within my sets I use a lot of “vocal scripts”, these narratives always move me a lot, the obscure and esoteric has always interested me and can move me to tears really.

Everyday life seeps into his process. “Owning a dog changed the way I make and play sound. Since she’s around, I stay home more. I move slower and listen better. It made me think about time, about how rhythm isn’t always movement but can be attention.”

Recently, he founded Para;Form, “a platform for research gatherings. “I’m designing these gatherings for all people who study things, artistically or more practice based. I’m inviting all mad writers, introverted fashion designers, sound driven purists or any other creative that feels the need to trial and error, to use these gatherings to research “something” they are attracted to.”
