Clocking Out: Time Beyond Management challenges the dominant modern conception of time as objective, divisible, and linear. Situating the global imposition of this naturalized temporal order alongside the advent of Western capitalist modernity and the implementation of standardized clock time, the exhibition explores how time is represented, lived, and contested in the catastrophic present.

Presenting speculative, historical, and already-existing alternatives to the dominant temporal regime, the exhibition gestures towards a Time Beyond Management—a time outside of imposed regimentations, imperatives to productivity, and self-inflicted time management. The works on view foreground the orchestration of time as a site of struggle and critique, moving away from linear, progressive conceptions of time that historically and continuously enable interlocking systems of social, political, and economic domination. Spanning decolonial and Indigenous temporalities, alternative time-based economies, queered timekeeping devices, and materializations of interwoven time in textile practices, the exhibition resists the tendency towards a singular counter-hegemonic solution. Clocking Out is ultimately an invitation to imagine liberatory futures unhinged from the clock’s regulative hold on everyday life.

C Powers presents to you today on July 4th of 2023 an audio companion to your anti-celebratory experiences. May this mix be with you for those moments when you really do not feel like celebrating the legacy of racism, slavery, and white supremacy that is Amerikkka.

C Powers' sound is informed by years spent collecting records in Atlanta and Chicago, honing crowd control skills in the foggy clubs of London, helping foster queer spaces for dancing in Savannah GA, and solidarity dance nights in Portland OR.

Cecilia's sets and releases combine elements of gay camp, anti-sophistication, extended turntable technique, and a sense of juxtaposition molded by a DJ career that has strayed from the traditional "club" spaces. Imagine a girl that grew up buying her first DnB & FL Breaks vinyls in late 90's Atlanta GA then going on to join one of the most chaotic drag families of the east coast while also paying bills as a wedding dj in the coastal region of Georgia. If you can conjure this crowd-pleasing combination then you have a clue: not much point in going into a C Powers set with expectations.

Cecilia has been heavily active in anti-displacement organizing. When she moved to LA in 2019, she joined the Los Angeles Tenants Union, helping working class and undocumented families organize against unethical landlords and gentrification in North Hollywood. Upon moving to Portland a year later, she became a co-founding member of Don’t Evict Portland, a tenant-lead organization that is working to build tenant power and delay, reduce, or eliminate the harm and violence of evictions. Cecilia's work in organizing blends into her work as an electronic musician and DJ. The experiences she's had behind the decks and in organizing spaces have begun to meld lately in the series of events called Trainwreck. These events are solidarity-fundraising shows that aim to put as close to 100% of proceeds directly into the hands of tenants working with Dont Evict Portland to combat displacement and the expenses thereof. Cecilia has also explored bringing music into the organizing space and weaponizing audio for disruption. In turn, this work is informing her audio production, bringing the theme and energy of collective action into her music production and collaborations.

" Today, we have 3 players for 2 hours. The First 40 min is a live set by MDMC a.k.a Madam Columbia, a composer from the twilight zone of Kyoto underground club scene. Enjoy the wonderful raving journey with her music and singing which has distinct exotic/afro vibe and influences from many genres. The second 40min is a live set by USK, a master of drum machine Tempest and he is also from Kyoto, with many very spacey brain fucking heavy-bottom tracks. Don’t forget to check his new album to be released in September 2024, from a Tokyo based label SLIDE MOTION. The last 40min is a Dj set by KA4U, with unique selections of Dance/Tribal beats, strongly inspired by his set at “AltPass” at Daphnia last January, featured DJ Marcelle from Netherlands, who is known for collaging different tracks and creating new music experience. I gurantee you that the whole show will be very fun and fresh for you tonight. Enjoy! "
