Aaken is the stage name of Tôn-Thât An, a French born Vietnamese singer, composer, songwriter and pianist.
Largely self-taught as a composer, he embraces each musical project as an opportunity to expand his musical language and push his limits through, both creatively and personally. 

His first album 'Circlesong' (2005) blends down-tempo, classical music, electronic, indie pop, trip-hop, rock, Indian music, his Asian roots and a cinematographic approach to music.
‘Hyperbody’, (2010) his second album was recorded in Paris, Taipei, and Chicago and features collaborations with Portuguese songstress Bévinda as well as Beck’s übercool mother, Bibbe Hansen. Then came ‘We Were (t)here’ (2017) and ‘Fukaeri’ (2021), a collaborative project with Portuguese songstress Bévinda. 
He also co-wrote and produced Taiwanese singer 廖士賢 (Sam Liao)’s album ‘西部 (Forgotten West)’, for which he was awarded ‘Best Arranger’ at the 2019 Taiwan Golden Melody.

A life-long love for dance led him to collaborate with Japanese choreographer Jo Kanamori: ‘NINA – materialise sacrifice’ (2005), ‘PLAY 2 PLAY’ (2007), ‘Les Contes d’Hoffmann’ (2010), ‘The Dream of the Swan’ (2017) and with Taiwanese dance wunderkind Huang Yi: ‘Symphony Project’ (2010), ‘Double Yellow Line’ (2012), ‘Shadows of Sound’ (2013) and ‘Special Order’ (2014).

His work with Jo Kanamori caught the attention of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra who commissioned him to compose ‘The Legend of Thanh Giong’ (2013), which was premiered at the Berlin Philharmonie Hall.

As singer-songwriter Aaken, he has made three studio albums: ‘Circlesong’ (2005), ‘Hyperbody’ (2010), and ‘We Were (t)here’ (2017) and ‘Fukaeri’ (2021), a collaborative project with Portuguese songstress Bévinda. 
He also co-wrote and produced Taiwanese singer 廖士賢 (Sam Liao)’s album ‘西部 (Forgotten West)’, for which he was awarded ‘Best Arranger’ at the 2019 Taiwan Golden Melody.
 
A film enthusiast since his early childhood, An has been very busy on the cinema front in the past recent years, giving his time and energy to the new wave of young Vietnamese directors: ‘The Third Wife’ (2018) and ‘Between Shadow and Soul’ (2019) by Ash Mayfair, ‘Song Lang’ (2018) by Leon Le, ‘Ròm’ (2019) by Trần Thanh Huy and ‘Goodbye Mother’ (2019)  by Trịnh Đình Lê Minh. He also worked in Japan on Naomi Kawase’s ‘True Mothers’ (2020) and Edmund Yeo’s ‘Moonlight Shadow’ (2021), a film adaptation of the Banana Yoshimoto novella and for Lee Yong Chao’s documentary ‘Rain in 2020’ (2021) in Myanmar. He directed his first short film ‘Yet Untitled [redux]’ (2018).

In 2015, he launched and curated ‘[FEEL] IN/OUT’, an indie art project in Saigon that encompasses performing arts, film, music, dance, fine arts, video installation and photography by Vietnamese artists.
