New Acoustics I (excerpt)

Sometimes onomatopoeia is the only way to describe how good a sound really is. This is one of those times where ‘oof’ is the optimum descriptor for a slab of audio; in this case courtesy of Timedance boss, Batu, and rejigged by PAN Records specialist, Lee Gamble.

Monolith EP sees Batu returning to his own stomping ground after recently ushering in gems for Livity Sound and Mistry. “Reez” — which arrives this March 11 on vinyl and digitally a week later — is numero two on the four-tracker; a downtempo slogger characterised by its dubwise nature.

But it’s track number four that we’re most blown away by. Lee Gamble deconstructs the original and plants it in the eye of a hazy storm; still contagiously propulsive, yet cloudier and murkier in timbre. Did we say oof already?

The UK national anthem 'God Save The Queen' compressed 90 times as an MP3 file in recognition of the Queen’s 90th Birthday. 

It loses quality each time it is compressed and the final result is a swampy lo-fi mush of an anthem. The quality of the track merely reflects the quality of the monarchy. Enjoy.

Influences on the Welsh producer's 'A History With Samus' EP are rooted in 21st century - and beyond - communication and evolution: "At the time of writing the EP, I was exploring my interest into humanity's developing obsession with technological integration, the process of creating synthetic life, virtual realities and environments and the potential future of companionship between human and AI."

Fact Magazine profiled Odeko among 10 grime producers to watch in 2016 writing "What we’ve heard hints at an expansive approach exploring the hidden connections between Rapid at his most lovelorn and electronic experiments by James Blake or Oneohtrix Point Never....He’s got a ton of potential to add nuance and shading to the label’s emotional grime deconstructions, and the outside influences carry a welcome influx of new ideas at a time when the genre can feel a bit self-referential. Trust us on this one."

Aaron Barclay was born in Surrey, England in 1992. He received his BA in Creative Music Technology from Bath Spa University in 2015. Aaron has exhibited and performed in the UK  including shows at The Roper Gallery Bath and the Island Arts Facility Bristol. Aaron Lives and works in Bath, England.

I began using process within my work for its obvious aesthetic- to manufacture an idea, put it into practice and observe the results without intervening. Repetition is a crucial yet constant obsession for me. The closer I looked, the more the sounds and actions of my life began to take on a new from, a new way of point of view.

Upon finding this new perspective created through my fascination with process and sound, was a language made up of patterns and repetition formed by objects: fans, pens, and paper. I had discovered a new method of communicating through the use of a logical procedure. There is an endless source of material that can be created through the reiteration of process and I seek to explore as much of it as possible.
