We are happy to strengthen our connection with the prosperous Leipzig scene with the next episode of “Circulating Waves” and presenting you another great artist from the east-german capital of Hypnotic Techno: Ayumi.

Together with her Nebula collective, which is also home to artists like Kontinum, Murky FM, Kiara and others, she is responsible for the finest hypnotic parties far and wide. Apart from that Ayumi also hosts INPUT, a regular event at infamous Institut für Zukunft, which offers newcomers a stage to develop. 

Her provided mix will carry you from the darkest, erratic outskirts of the vortex, accelerating straight from there to the rhythmically pumping core and finally touches down in her homeland of enormous clouds of dust and gas, which are occupying the space between the stars and giving birth to the new.

MINI INTERVIEW:

What was the intention behind your set?
"To showcase my productions and sound as an artist as this set is made primarily of my own productions."

How would you describe your approach to Social Media as an artist?
"I think over the years we’ve seen many formats of posts and how to increase engagement etc and I personally have seen that out of the many formats there are when it comes to a release and how to promote it. There are only a few ways that are optimal and I'm all for social media promotion. It allows us as artists to reach people we otherwise wouldnt and that’s incredibly valuable."

Who inspired you the most on your path as an artist?
"I would have to say artists such as Tale of Us, Fideles, Oliver Winters, Deadmau5 and artists alike."

INTERVIEW

1. How do you stay focused in a world of constant distraction? 
"I stay focused by being mentally aware of where my mind is running off to. By doing this, I am aware that I'm losing focus, however, if you know why you are losing focus - then you can at least be constructive about it and use the process to learn something new whether it is about yourself or music. Basically, I ask myself why my mind is running off on a crazy way and maybe through analysis I will find there is a good reason for that (music-related or not) but if I don't do this and I am not aware of my distractions, then they are just that: distractions. They then hold you back more so than if you were aware of them and acknowledge why they are there, thus furthering your understanding of the problem/situation and then acting on it the best way possible."

2. Do you have a morning routine? 
"I definitely do - I start by waking up at 4a.m and listening to music from people I admire/look up to, e.g Oliver Winters, Adriatique, Mononoid, etc. and get myself into the right mental state to produce freely and let my emotions do the talking. This start of the day is crucial, for me at least, with regards to how the rest of my day will go. Coffee is a must have when waking up at 4a.m everyday haha!"

3. What do you want to express with your music?
"I want to express my emotions at the time. A big part of my music is being able to take somebody on a journey (hopefully) and to be able to share an experience with them. If you are listening to my music & it is helping you in any way: a smile, a tear, a laugh, anything… then i am happy."

4. Most profound insight you had since you started this career? 
"Don't try and “be the best" - there is no such thing. Sure there are obvious stars and icons but there is no such thing as “the best producer in techno” or this type of thing. There is only art, and if your goal is to achieve being the “best in art” then its a bit close minded. Everyone is unique in their own style of production/storytelling/etc. and therefore when hearing this advice, I changed in my earlier days of production and trying to “be the best” to wanting to be among the best. This changed perspective for me and changed things from being a race/competition to being a community."
