Byron Writers Festival is Australia's favourite regional meeting place of storytelling and ideas. We present world-class gatherings that enrich and transform the lives of our audiences and community. Our annual festival takes place in August on Bundjalung Country.

We showcase writers from around the world, representing all aspects of contemporary literature, especially First Nations writing and ways of knowing, environment, politics, philosophy, art, history and society.

Established in 1995, the festival and our year-round programs attract tens of thousands of audiences annually to develop and promote literature from and in the region.

This is a new community of song-collecting enthusiasts who strive to empower a new generation of collection and distribution of old, orally-transmitted song and wider culture.

Despite wide assumption that all the traditional singers have long passed away and no more culture is passed on through the oral tradition, there is in fact a wealth of song held by those unknown by the wider traditional music community. 


I'm an Australian singer songwriter living in Adelaide. I was formerly based in Spain where I released three albums, an EP and a film score. But I'm not using soundcloud for that. This is for the rough stuff. These demos I'm sharing document a tough time and served as a means to me getting out.

Anya Anastasia creates experimental art-rock with global influences, made in Adelaide, South Australia.

The sonic worlds that her rich soundscapes evoke are layered and encapsulating, driven by catchy hooks, complex rhythms, and rich distinctive vocals. The lyrics that grab you and draw you into the sonic detail layered within the music, offering up more with each listen. Anya's lyrics ask questions about our society, conspiring to stir dissent and environmental action. Amidst the grind of modern industrial life, her songs transcribe wonders of the natural world.

In collaboration with her diverse and accomplished band (Satomi Onishi - drums, Gareth Chin - keys, Clara Gillam Grant - Cello, Lucinda Grace - Bass, all composers in their own right) Anya draws on diverse musical influences and takes an experimental approach to crafting tones and textures inspired by her (and the band’s) own locality and era, evoking the flora and fauna of their local 'inner-regional' remnant bushland. The songs are infused with late-stage-capitalism-anthroposcene angst throughout.
