Here’s something that will get your senses tingling: a 4-track release by Colombia’s number one house prodigy: Felipe Gordon. His ‘Highly conductive rhythms’ EP has the talented producer showcasing the depths of his sound with classy compositions ranging from jazzy deep house to funky acid. Felipe is someone who you might call a prolific producer: he’s had 6 releases last year on labels like Shall not Fade, Local Talk, Lost Palms and Toy Tonics and this year he’s already dropped a handful of releases including his spectacular album “A landscape onomatopeya”. Despite this crazy release schedule, Felipe has made sure to deliver a stunning record for Heist, something he’s been dreaming of ever since he started making music. The lush opener ‘Highly smooth tone’ features the jazzy work of Cuban horn player Julio Rigal, who delivers a sublime performance with his crackling trumpet work reminiscent of St. Germain’s 2001 album ‘Tourist’. There’s a deep bass and fine synth work to give the track some weight, which balances out perfectly with the chopped keys and loose drums. ‘Highly deep and conductive’ takes things even deeper. It’s warm pads and crunchy sub bass support a snare loop that feels like a marching band on its way to the nearest club. The subtle vocal chops (You’re gonna miss my love) are on point in defining the melancholic character of the track. The mid-track arpeggio and bumpy synth hits make for a perfect changeover in a track that breathes deep house to the fullest. On the flip, Felipe delivers the acid drum workout ‘Highly corrosive acid’. This might seem like unfamiliar territory for the producer, if it wouldn’t have been so expertly crafted. We can almost feel the sweat dripping off the walls of the clubs this will be played in. If this is acid Felipe Gordon style, please give us more. The final track of the EP is ‘Highly rhythmic pace’: a classic bumpy deep house track with chopped keys, bells, chants and a fair amount of grunt in the bass. This is a groovy finish to a well-crafted and amazingly varied EP. We’re glad Felipe got to release on Heist and this might well be the start of something great.

As the decade has rolled to a close, the ways in which fans discover music is more fractured and algorithmic than ever. Massive platforms use technology and playlists that many listeners have become reliant on to surface new and engaging tracks, and while there are still a handful of independent press outlets pushing releases from underserved artists, they are dwindling by the year. Yet in the face of a rapidly changing industry, there are still a number of even smaller collectives bucking the trend of computerized gatekeeping, thanks in no small part to the hard work and passion of like-minded individuals who care deeply and are driven to support and spread the music they love.

One such faction is the unrelenting and ever-evolving Bolting Bits, co-founded as a French language publication in 2014 by Florent Tarroux (who produces and DJs as Numea Daze) and his partner Sarah-Marie. Bringing Igor Bezuglov onboard in early 2016, together they helped Bolting Bits reach a more universal audience by transitioning their writing to the English language. Alongside a small team of rotating contributors, they've worked tirelessly to not only upload music from artists they admire, but also raise the profile of talented newcomers who are eager to share their efforts---many of whom have gone on to release on labels such as Shall Not Fade, Lobster Theremin, Feel My Bicep, and a myriad of high-profile outlets. With over 650 premieres under their belt, as well as over 100 original mixes and over 6 million plays on Soundcloud, Bolting Bits remains a beacon for the outer rims of traditional dance music, covering everything from jazz to acid to broken beat and beyond. They have thrown dozens upon dozens of parties in their local Montreal and have reached audiences across the globe (except Greenland…hurry up Greenland).

Now, Bolting Bits are extremely excited to announce their first official compilation, in partnership with renowned producers and artists who’ve been supporting and supported by the crew since the very beginning. With tracks from the likes of Jad & The, Aleksandir, Homage label owner Ryan Clover, and many others, this compilation stands as a testament to the amazing work and ethos of Bolting Bits. It will be available on both Bandcamp and the main Bolting Bits website, and will cost a minimum of 8 USD (though fans can pay-what-they-want to help further support the site)---the ultimate goal is to continue sharing amazing tunes from incredible artists to the people who care.

Between them they've collaborated on Sound Signature, Moodymanns Mahogani Music, and Third Ear Recordings. Reviving this forgotten jazz house classic is NDATL's Kai Alcé. It is a task Aaron-Carl has done consistently since 1996.  As one of Detroit's most in-demand producers & sought-after remixers, his signature sound crosses genres -- from soulful, gospel-infused House, to the dirtiest ghettotech anthems.

Armed with little more than a cheap keyboard & a four-track cassette tape recorder, Aaron-Carl proved early on that he could hold his own in Detroit's Electronic Music Scene.  When a demo tape landed into the hands of Underground Resistance's "Mad" Mike Banks, Aaron was quickly signed to Banks' Soul City record label.  Even then, Aaron refused to be boxed into one genre.  His first two records were released at the same time:  "Crucified," a soulful deep house vocal, and "Wash It," a cheeky underground club banger.  While both records received great critical acclaim, it was "Down" (an explicit electro-house track on the B-side of "Wash It") that became -- and remains one of Aaron's biggest records to date.

Ron Murphy (NSC Mastering) and "Mad" Mike Banks were strong mentors during that time.  "It wasn't enough for me to write great songs," Aaron says.  "They taught me how to make great RECORDS…" Aaron compares their guidance to boot camp.  "They saw my potential, and wouldn't accept anything less than my best."  He describes, "Mike held meetings with all the producers on the label.  He'd play the hottest tracks at the time, and would challenge us to go home and do better."

When the opportunity came to remix label mate Theresa Stringer's "Round and Round" single, Aaron jumped at the chance.  Though it was very first official remix, it earned Aaron a reputation for what has become his trademark "Wallshaker" beats. 

Aaron-Carl launched his own Wallshaker imprint in 1998 - named after his final 12-inch on Soul City. "Closer" - Aaron's first Wallshaker project, was licensed by Whirling Records (US), but was never released.  His third single, "My House," caught the attention of Philadelphia house label, Ovum Recordings.  The song got licensed and went on to become Aaron's first Billboard Top 40 Dance/Club hit. 

Cementing his powerhouse status in Detroit Electronic Music, Aaron-Carl has remixed some of the Motor City's biggest artists, like Underground Resistance, SCAN 7, Kelli Hand & AUX 88. He has also remixed International artists like Chicago House legend Dajae, Icelandic techno stars Gus Gus, and African jazz great Manu Dibango, to name a few.  Aaron's productions have graced various labels throughout the world, including Subject Detroit, Metroplex, Kompakt, Sirkus and Universal France.  He has also been remixed by some of the industry's top producers, like Ewan Pearson, Doc Martin and Grammy award winner Peter Rauhofer (Club 69). 

Two of Aaron's deep house tracks -- "Sky" (a tribute to his late father) and "Oasis" are featured in the internationally acclaimed House music documentary, "Maestro" by Josell Ramos.

Aaron also holds his own within the Hip Hop community -- particularly among the LGBT Hip Hop circles. Most notably producing hits for legendary rapper Johnny Dangerous, his remix of the infamous "Topsy Turvy" - in which he makes a cameo appearance -- is featured in the Alex Hinton documentary, "Pick up the Mic."

Owning and overseeing the successful Wallshaker Music label plus heading his own music publishing company, Symphonic Storm Music Publishing, Aaron-Carl proves himself as a definite force to be reckoned with - and shows no signs of slowing down.
