Talofa Village originated in October 1966 by two brothers, Charles C and Arthur O Schwenke to cater for the needs of the youth of the L.D.S Pesega First Ward in which Arthur was a presiding Bishop and also to preserve the culture of the Polynesian people.
The establishment of the Talofa Village Entertainers was brought about partly with the idea of giving the youth of the village an opportunity to enjoy a worthwhile pastime, partly to show overseas visitors something of the traditional culture of Samoa.
The performance features typical Samoan singing, dancing and knife-dancing and its climax is the dance of the Taupou - the village virgin who is dressed in siapo (tapa) cloth, or in a dress of cotton leaves. The most striking feature of the apparel is the head-dress which consists of a wig of human hair. The hair is soaked in salt water to discolour it to a sepia-like colour. This is piled high on top of the girl's own hair, which has been tied into a tight knot on the top of her head. In front of teh wig there is a special head-dress of mirrors and brightly coloured feathers. The girl's face, like her body, is rubbed with coconut oil and the cheeks are marked with charcoal. On wrists and ankles she wears ti leaves. She comes on usually with the nifo oti (the tooth of death) spinning it with dexterity, like some of the male knife dancer.
Features of the performances are the traditional siva, which are original Samoan dances, called for a series of stylised hand and foot movements with the group singing an accompaniment, A good example of a siva song is "Samoa Sila Sila" which means "Watch what I am doing. Another dance is "Samoa Lo'u Atunu'u Pele", which celebrates Samoa as the beloved land of the people. Songs are used to accompany other activities, as in the case of the fishing song "Sua Mai Lepa Taie" sung by the women as they collect shellfish in the lagoon.

Just me on the gat singing my song 'Passing Over', about a guy reminiscing on his failed relationship; he's been left all alone in an empty house while the love of his life is out there spreading her wings. He thought they were going to be forever - a thousand years - but it wasn't to be. He's trapped in reliving memories and being caught up in remorse for the loss of that life. In the end though, he finally accepts he has to let go. So, he says goodbye with the proviso that he will still be there for her - if she needs...

Leastra Make It Rain

Written for a friend of mine who I thought had such the coolest name I had to put it in a song. This is one of two I created on the same day. 
But when I say created, I mean born. This song really came together over a period of time but it basically went like this nearing that day: Friday, I was playing the gat and started doing the Strum and chord progression, Saturday Night I take my gat to friends garage. I tell them I have a tune of sorts but need words. I begin to play then call for a circle round for people to sing out lines or words that could go with the song. It still wasn’t much but we had a lot of fun. I wrote the lines down and spoke to my friends dad about loving her name and basing the song around that. He agreed and we talked a little more about her personality. 
The next day I sat with my guitar and fashioned this song - Leastra Sets the Scene.
That night (Sunday night), I played the song to this special lady, with a couple of uncontrollable laughs and a brimming smile or two - the song was fully born. 
Although this is a rough record after the fact, it’s still good to indicate the direction of the song in acoustic.
