The "PieCo$t" double entendre, is a riotous way to fool a close friend (or enemy) into asking for the specific purchase price of an inconsequential baked good: The Pie.

The initial engagement of the victim can be implemented in several ways: - "If a dog and a PieCo$t ran in a race who would win?" - “Can you get me a PieCo$t while you’re out?" - “Hey friend, want to get a PieCo$t?” To which the unsuspecting goof, preoccupied with answering the seemingly simple question, replies with: - “What’s a PieCo$t?” This leads to the fundamental hoodwink of the stunt, to which the main instigator replies: - “About $4.50” The ensuing result leaves the muddled stooge, tricked, confused and in awe of the linguistic powerhouse that you are.

The wordplay evolves around the precise ambiguity of the term, 'PieCo$t'. Having no known natural occurrences in spoken English the phrase is unprecedented and equivocal. It directs the chump into a state of bewilderment, as they are preoccupied with the unknown term ‘PieCo$t’ but also trying desperately to fulfil the social obligation of replying to the question.

The trick relies entirely on the inexhaustible synonymous words and phrases within the English language. If English was not such a tortuous labyrinth of convoluted dialects and amalgamated languages both extinct and current, this witticism would be unquestionably non-existent.

It is the trick that is the joke.
