I performed this poem, heavily pregnant, in front of my theatre class. It's about the memories of my grandparents' house in Perth, which I sometimes dream about. I also revisit Bayswater each time I watch the film César et Rosalie by Claude Chabrol.

BAYSWATER DREAMING (2016)
A house unlike any I'd lived in, a real home
Cookie coloured carpet with chocolate swirls
trodden and marked by all five children
Panoramic view looking out to an endless street
through the lounge room window
Frosted glass doors slide out to the passage
A forbidden bedroom
Another, empty
Purple-pastelled bathroom, dusted in talcum velour
Green mesh patio with a see-through roof
gives light to banana trees and thorny succulents
Topaz crystal sparkles in from the pool
My tropical Bayswater universe
Adults eat, drink, gamble in a makeshift games room
I escape to the garden
The pecan and the lemon tree are my favourites
Climb up for a better view
beyond the fence
Little stream borders slick wet lawn
School boys home for the weekend
I jump
Down by the glistening pool
and think about

J’ai séjourné il y a quelques années dans la ville où j’ai passé une partie de mon enfance : Bayswater. J’y suis retournée quelques temps après par hasard, à l’occasion d’un rêve. Je n’avais pas repensé à la maison de mes grands-parents jusqu’ici. Or dans mon rêve, certaines choses avaient changé. Il y avait de nouveaux propriétaires et l’océan parvenait jusqu’au seuil de la maison. Seul le jardin semblait ne pas avoir changé.

Black Truffle presents a new issue of Annea Lockwood's classic 1970 tape piece "Tiger Balm", accompanied by two exquisite unreleased works for percussion and voice.

"Created while Lockwood was living in the UK, the side-long 'Tiger Balm' is a singular work within the cannon of tape music. Inspired by research into the ritual function of music, the piece explores the possibility of evoking ancient communal memories through sound. Breaking entirely with the dynamic language of the musique concrète tradition, Lockwood uses a select palette of mainly unprocessed sonic elements chosen for their mysterious and erotic characteristics (a purring cat, a heartbeat, gongs, slowed down jaw harp, a tiger, a woman's breath, a plane passing overhead), presenting at most two sounds at once. As one sound flows organically into the next, their shared characteristics are highlighted, opening a space of dream logic and mysterious associations between nature and culture, the ancient and the modern. The B side presents two pieces for percussion recorded here for the first time. 'Amazonia Dreaming' (1987), performed by Dominic Donato, uses unaccompanied snare drum and voice to evoke the nocturnal soundscape of the Amazon rainforest. Unorthodox techniques and materials (marbles, chopsticks, a plastic jar lid) transform the snare into a resonant field of sensual textures. 'Immersion' (1998), performed by Donato and Frank Cassara, is a slow-moving exploration of gentle beating tones, performed on marimba, tam tams, and gong. Like the other two works presented on this LP, it provides captivating proof of Lockwood's belief in the complexity that deep listening can reveal within seemingly simple sounds." -- Francis Plagne

Mille mercis à tous à La Muse en Circuit.

D'origine syrienne, mon père m'a donné son sang, et dans mon corps, mes veines véhiculent ce patrimoine. Ce n'est qu'à l'âge de 15 ans que ces terres se dévoilent sous mes yeux pour la toute première fois. Depuis 2002, tournages sonores au kilomètre parcouru à Damas ou ailleurs, pendant quatre de mes voyages. Février 2011, Mon grand-père paternel décède. Mars 2011, les conflits éclatent en Syrie. Depuis, chaque jour à la radio, des correspondants de Homs ou Alep annoncent les nouvelles, explosions, combats, nombre de morts... Bilad El Cham est un documentaire sensiblement engagé avec l'intention d'être au plus proche de ce que je sais de la Syrie. Quand bien même le spectre de la distance qui d'abord a forgé le mythe et qui désormais demeure imposée, je veux être au plus juste. Je dédie ce travail à mon arrière grand père, Qanès Bacha Al abed, qui m'a-t-on dit, fut colombophile, un héritier des fameuses techniques de correspondance issu des Croisades au XIème siècle.
