Hailing from Dripping Springs, TX lead vocalist Mark Wystrach fronts Midland’s rich sound that is rounded out with lead guitarist/vocalist Jess Carson and bass player/vocalist Cameron Duddy. Rooted in tradition in both sound and style, the trio initially garnered attention playing clubs in the region. “Waking Up Ain’t Easy” was born from heart-wrenching pain that bleeds through words and melody.

 Capturing life and pain with poetic ease and plain honesty is what Brit Taylor does well.    When Brit joined with Grammy-nominated producer Dave Brainard to blend traditional roots with trippy steel guitar and spacey strings, a sound and a song were created that take the heart to a place where emotions are faced head on.  The melancholy song is starkly simple while embracing the complexities of love, loss and depression.  And Brit Taylor, with a sensuous sound and a tear in her voice, brings comfort to anyone mourning a loss by simply letting them know they aren’t alone in their sadness or their depression.  “Waking Up Ain’t Easy” is modern vintage at its very best.

The song was born when Brit Taylor’s dream life was turned upside down and her love in ashes, and she found it hard to face the day. “I had to force myself out of bed every morning,” Brit says. “Depression was new to me, and I was completely unprepared to cope.”   

 She understood for the first time what it really meant when folks said they did not want to get out of bed – in fact, the title “Waking Up Ain’t Easy” languished in her notes for six months before she had the emotional strength to put words to it. 

 “Waking Up Ain’t Easy” is refreshingly simple yet surprisingly complex.  It combines the emotional acuity of Brit's songwriting and rich voice with superb musicianship to create a song that, through words and sound, has a unique vulnerability and strength. It is 100 percent Brit Taylor -- empathetic, empowering, intoxicating – and as authentic as she is.
