Hello everyone and welcome to the exclusive Progcast from Il Modo, your weekly trip around Planet Progressive. Join us as we traverse the globe in search of the best and boldest DJ Mixes we can find, while delivering them direct to your ears! 

This week sees us head back Stateside, with a veteran DJ returning to the Il Modo decks. Stepping right out of the fabled Florida rave scene, our guest today knows how to smash any dance floor he comes across. Make some noise for Ablekid! 

Ablekid, aka Daniel Moore is a veteran DJ/producer from the Orlando underground. His journey into dance music was as fortuitous as it was inevitable with his introduction to dance music beginning in the late 80's and early 90's with legendary Central Florida clubs like Aahz and Marz. 

After picking up a set of decks in 2000, he started buying vinyl by the crate-load. While honing his skills he began an internet radio show at the Drop Shop in Orlando with fellow DJ, Bert Simmons, and soon, a small following developed. 

Fast-forward to a move to the musical hotbed of Austin, Texas in 2009, the Ablekid moniker had seen success in various forms. Now signed to Praveen Achary’s Juicebox Music imprint, along with older releases on Christian Lang’s Kindred Recordings (Paris) and Rapid Fire Records (Miami), Daniel had also fostered many relationships in the community by becoming part of the esteemed Release Promo roster more than a decade ago. 

In 2018 he was tapped to be FRISKY Radio's "Artist of the Week" and afterward was offered his own slot on the esteemed site where his show, Waveforms, has enjoyed over 6 years of success. His continued success in the US underground is a combination of effective crate digging, silky smooth DJ skills and just the right amount of grit and determination. His mixes and productions are the result of all this hard work and show a depth of knowledge and attention to detail. 

2024 will see new music released after a long break from production, and some of the scene's freshest underground talent as guests on his Frisky show, stay tuned.

At the risk of dance music blasphemy, I’m releasing a project I’ve had in my head for a long time.  The greatest commercial DJ Mix of all time, in my opinion, and that of many others, is “ Renaissance - The Mix Collection” by Sasha and Digweed.  Originally released in October of 1994, it became an instant classic for many ravers and clubbers across the globe. The mix started the entire DJ mix compilation market, and that is no overstatement.  The superb track selection and absolute mixing perfection delivered an indelible mark on dance music history that, to that point, could only be heard in the underground clubs, notably at Renaissance in Mansfield, England.

Thirty years on, this DJ Mix still sounds amazing to old and new listeners alike. There are too many compelling reasons why this mix works to list here.

Over the years, many of the tracks played across the three CDs have been remixed. Others have not. My thought was, what would it sound like if all three CDs were recreated track for track, using nothing but remixes?  

Apparently, I was not the only one who had this idea.  As I was compiling remixes, working on the mix in late 2024, I checked out the latest mix from the amazing Framewerk, and lo and behold, their NYE2025 set is almost a complete recreation of Disc 1 of The Mix Collection.  First off, I wish I was at the club where they played this set.  Second, I thought the idea was now taken :(.  Finally, I thought they released one track for which I desperately needed a remix - Bladerunner - Til We Meet Again. 

In the end, I decided to to continue on with the project.  My mix is using remixes from many different artists, including Framewerk. While breaks are my first love,  I’m using a mix of 4/4 and breakbeat remixes to complete this project. For a few tracks that I could not find a good remix for I created my own edits. 

So here is Disc 1 of the “Re-Mix Collection.” Sourcing all the tracks was not easy. I found remixes on the usual sights like beatport and bandcamp.I had to capture a few from a stream and when all else failed, I made a version myself. Some remixes are quite close to the originals with breaks instead of 4/4, or slight alternate genres,  others like Mattr's remix of Mephisto is almost unrecognizable to the Renaissance version.
