This song is about the feelings that runners have when they run.

There is also a German verse in the song which refers to a runner's event.
Every year at New Year's Eve there is a run in Kempten in the south of Germany - The "Kemptener Silvesterlauf". It is a runner's cult event and an opportunity to meet people and catch up. So you feel high and free at the end of the year and at the beginning of the new one.

And nothing was really resolved except I guess a certain degree of acceptance maybe even forgiveness .   Realizing that anyone is capable of bad behavior like abandonment given their current mindset and level of maturity.
