In 2019, GRAMMY-nominated trio Above & Beyond briefly stepped away from the noisy world of dance music. 

The result was ‘Flow State’: 17 ambient and piano-based compositions. A reaction to the stress of touring life and described by the band as "music tools for yoga, mindfulness and mental fitness", 'Flow State' was picked up by global mental health phenomenon Calm, featured in The Times and NME and had extensive radio play on BBC Radio 1 and Sirius XM. 'Flow State' yoga sessions were hosted in 17 cities around the world in collaboration with New York-based yogi Elena Brower and the DAYBREAKER community. 

Fast-forward two years and 'Flow State' music can be found in the world's biggest yoga and mindfulness playlists on Apple Music, Amazon, Deezer and Spotify and has been streamed over 70 million times. 
 
The Flow State phenomenon continues on ‘Flow State: Healing With Nature’, a new pack of meditation tools and ambient field recordings designed to elicit a deep state of relaxation and calm.

At the center of this new release is an extended, half-hour original piano piece set to an archival talk by Elena Brower where she discusses the process and benefits of meditation practise. Recorded in a single take, this hour of original music is an entirely improvised, live musical response to Elena’s words. 

The EP also includes four ambient soundscapes recorded in the forests of Finland.

On 13th December 2021, Above & Beyond were on top of the world. Or, as high as you can get with a whole bunch of electronic equipment that needs to be carried up 708 steps to a summit 656 feet above sea level. The two time Grammy nominated London-based trio were performing on the summit of the Rock of Guatapé at La Piedra del Peñol Guatapé in Colombia, in a performance for live streaming platform Cercle.

The opening track was ‘Morning In Deira’. Not only was the rippling piano instrumental – a near-six-minute quiet-is-the-new-loud anthem – a freshly written composition from a beloved band, it would also be the flagship song for a new (ad)venture under the Anjuna umbrella; the company founded by Above & Beyond in 2000 to release their music and home to two labels, Anjunabeats and Anjunadeep.

Five months on, ‘Morning In Deira’, backed by another new Above & Beyond song ‘Time Heals’, is the launch release of Reflections. The songs deftly set the tone for this new, third label from the Anjunafamily. 

Reflections will be the home to the South London-based organisation’s ambient, downtempo and alternative catalogue, a fresh imprint that represents the “chill” arm of a suite of labels that are as prolific as they are successful.

Songwriters first, producers second, Above & Beyond’s unwavering commitment to their craft has fuelled a career that many electronic artists today might only dream of: four acclaimed studio albums, 14 compilation albums, two ‘acoustic’ albums, a stand-alone album for yoga and meditation and an original motion picture film score - not to mention innumerable club cuts and dance remixes.

Croquet Club follows up the release of his debut album ‘Fugue In Twilight’ with a selection of instrumentals, taking the title track, 'Slowly', 'Swirl', and 'Mother Earth' into new chill out worlds.

The album is slow-moving and reflective; created free of ego, comparison, chasing and striving. It’s a compelling and cinematic body of work that will cement Croquet Club’s reputation as a gifted, authentic and unique electronic music producer.

Jeremy started working on 'Fugue in Twilight' in early 2022. After so much time away from the Croquet Club project, he felt the pressure was off and expectations had dissipated. As he re-entered his studio and captured threads of ideas, he felt ready to return to the Croquet Club project for the right reasons; the ones he started with in the first place.

Jeremy treated his process delicately. Every day before he entered the studio, he meditated for close to an hour to turn inwards and reach a non-judgemental state of consciousness. This became a crucial part of the songwriting process.

He then channelled that energy into his creative process. “I’d get down to the studio, turn on the synthesiser or pick up the guitar, and start to play. And most of the time, I’d just play and nothing would happen. And sometimes something happened, and I’d record it.” He did this for about two months, saving threads of ideas, and reviewed everything all at once to see what had potential. “And then I made choices,” Jeremy says. “I deleted stuff, I kept some stuff, and when I had a batch of nice ideas, I worked an extra day on each one of them.”

This meticulous, self-assured and heartfelt process is what makes up the new album 'Fugue In Twilight'. The authenticity and purity seeps through every note, key and melody, pouring from one heart to another. The first single on the album is ‘Slowly’, about the human need for love, solace and intimacy. Jeremy layers his own vocals with hazy keys and nostalgic guitar, alongside lyrics about solitude and our relationship with ourselves.

Jeremy recorded the entire album as if it were live, playing every instrument himself without any loops. “It took a long time,” he says. “I had to write the music, write the lyrics, rehearse every instrument, record each part one by one, then mix it myself.”

Jeremy did it all himself for the experience. “It was like crossing the Atlantic Ocean on a rowing boat,” he says. “I could take the ferry, I could take the plane, but I chose to challenge myself and see how far I can go.”

The album was accompanied by a spoken word meditation piece from Elena Brower; self-empowering words for troubling times.
 
Today, the band share a new series of Flow State meditations in partnership with Elena Brower and three other inspiring women from around the world. 

Elena Brower has taught yoga and meditation since 1999. Her first book, Art of Attention, has been translated into seven languages; her second book, Practice You: A Journal, is a bestseller. Elena met Above & Beyond on the playa at Burning Man in 2014, where the seed that became Flow State was first planted. Her Practice You Podcast is beloved globally and her practices can be found at Glo.com. 

Hong Kong born ChauKei Ngai has been teaching yoga around the world since 2006. In 2013, she won the prestigious International Yoga Sports Federation Championship, the world’s largest international yoga competition with participants from over 25 countries. In 2018, she joined Above & Beyond for a live 'Flow State' yoga session in Kowloon Park, Hong Kong, attended by over 1000 people. 

After working as a professional model for 10 years, Veronica Blume slowed down, moved to Ibiza, started practising Kundalini Yoga and went on to open her dream yoga studio, The Garage in Barcelona. The Garage closed its doors right before lockdown and Veronica is now focusing on building her community through a new podcast, 'El Camino De Vuelta'.

Hanan Alshehri  hosts yoga events and retreats both Arabic and English languages in Saudi Arabia, India, Bali and Turkey. She created the first legal yoga retreat in Saudi Arabia and is getting ready to launch an online platform for yoga and meditation in the Arabic language.

Flow State Meditations will be released on the 11th of May on Above & Beyond's record label, Anjunabeats.
