Alex Sonata & TheRio release the ‘Feels Like Home EP’, out now on Anjunabeats.

Scottish-Italian duo Alex Sonata & TheRio release the ‘Feels Like Home EP’ hot on the heels of mixing the eleventh instalment of Anjunabeats Worldwide. The EP comprises all of the duo’s solo productions from the past year, including four new tracks that featured on the seismic Worldwide 11 compilation. 

Fraser Shaw and Riccardo Derio first joined forces in 2018; after several collaborations, they made it official in 2020, and Alex Sonata & TheRio was born. The duo made their Anjunabeats debut with ‘Time’, a track released as part of our Rising EP series in 2021, and have since skyrocketed up the ranks of the global trance scene with an array of mesmerising tracks including 'Are We Dreaming', 'Cala Luna' and 'Breath Of The Wild'. 

The pair have shown no signs of slowing down this year: they kicked off 2023 with a remix of Andrew Bayer’s ‘Equal’; released ‘Mantra’, which Above & Beyond hammered at their headline performance at Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas and at legendary London institution Printworks; joined forces with Elevven on ‘Hanalei’, which shot to #4 in the Beatport Top 100 Trance chart; and, most recently, collaborated with trance linchpin Giuseppe Ottaviani and electro pop vocalist Tishmal on ‘Tears Of The Kingdom’.

The duo have earned support from trance icons like Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten and Paul van Dyk, as well as the likes of David Guetta, Markus Schulz, Farius, Hernan Cattaneo and more on their releases this year alone. They recently followed up performances at Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy Weekender at The Gorge, our Anjunabeats Rising Summer Social in London and our Anjunabeats Outdoors show in Montreal with a sold-out Worldwide 11 launch event in Glasgow.

The first single to be taken from his forthcoming debut artist album, ‘Frozen Ground’ reunites ilan Bluestone with British singer / songwriter Giuseppe De Luca. 

Since joining the label in 2014, ilan has been at the forefront of the evolving trance sound. With an ear for hooky instrumentals, organic chords and dance floor minded productions, the likes of ‘Big Ben’, ‘Spheres’ and ’43’ became euphoric moments in DJ sets for the likes of Above & Beyond and Armin Van Buuren.

A prolific touring artist, ilan has headlined the Anjunabeats North American tour in 2016 and 2017 as well as joining Above & Beyond at Madison Square Garden and Sydney’s All Phones Arena.

The follow up to ilan and Giuseppe’s breakout hit ‘Bigger Than Love’, ‘Frozen Ground’ was debuted during Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy 200 show in a sold out 13,000 capacity Ziggo Dome.

For Giuseppe, inspiration for the song came after he joined ilan on stage at EDC, “there’s something about witnessing a sea of people gathered together to feel something that really helps to warp the borders of reality. I had this Brechtian idea of a specific sound, that when heard, would snap the listener out of their everyday veneer and allow them to connect with who they truly are. On Frozen Ground, I feel that sound, forever."

Returning to the progressive trance sound that he initially built his name on, Artem Stoliarov aka Arty reprises the well-loved Alpha 9 alias for his latest Anjunabeats outing alongside London duo Koven.

Following a series of Arty instrumentals on the label throughout 2016 including ‘Patriots’ and ‘Follow The Light’ (alongside Andrew Bayer), ‘Only Good Mistake’ feat. Koven surprisingly marks the Russian producer’s first ever vocal single on Anjunabeats.

A vocalist and producer duo in the bass world, Max Rowat and Katie Boyle aka Koven have released on a number of renowned labels including Viper Recordings and Monstercat. 

Recent years have seen Arty himself explore all sides of the electronic music world, most noticeably in 2015’s diverse and experimental ‘Glorious’ LP. Elsewhere his mix for Moby’s iconic ‘Porcelain’ showed a deeper, broken beat side to his sound. 

In ‘Only Good Mistake’, however, the Russian producer defines a clear, singular melodic progressive house sound that has all the hallmarks of a festival hit and bodes well for the rebirth of the Alpha 9 alias.
