The Y Axes are a San Francisco-based indie outfit who play a unique blend of dreamy, synth-glossed pop and rhythmically robust rock. Having initially formed as a recording project by vocalist Alexi Rose Belchere and guitarist Devin Nelson, the duo decided to take on the project full time after premiering a set of songs at their space and prom-themed joint birthday party in July 2011. Their lineup completed by bassist Jack Sundquist and drummer Paul Conroy, The Y Axes collaborate to create energetic and hard-hitting pop with ethereal vocal melodies that can stick in your mind for weeks and intricate instrumentations. Having recorded their latest album Umbra at with Aaron Hellam (Finish Ticket, Rin Tin Tiger, Black Map, etc.) at Hellam Sound, The Y Axes are set to release the full-length on November 26.

Ever heard of Maroon 5? 

Adam Levine’s makeup artist once did Chris’ makeup for a show. Mind you, this was a long time ago -back in his old band. 

You’ve never heard of Varsity Heroes? Dang. 

Well, they were a pretty big deal. 
The guitar player’s kid brother once met Nick Wheeler of All-American Rejects outside of the Campbell Gaslighter. I think he was in a band called Jesus Abs, or something like that. Good band. Kid could play, that’s for sure.

Flash forward a few years. Chris -the guy who had his makeup done by Maroon 5- now plays for this band called Talkie...from San Francisco. I'm pretty sure they once played on the same stage as the Grateful Dead. They put out an album called ‘Hablas’ back in 2015. It’s not for everyone. I enjoyed it tho. Very 60's. And then like a year or two ago, they came out with some nu-disco, soul trash. Like they’re Daryl Hall & John Oates or something. ‘Fundamental Things’, they called it. A lot more synth than I prefer. The 80’s sucked and kicked all the jam-bands outta LA.
 Whatever. 

They put out another record like 11 months after that. Pretty quick turnaround, if you ask me. They brought back the fuzzy guitars, which is more my jam. Called it ‘Everything Matters’, or something like that. But yeah, now they just put out singles. Or maybe it's like a..."rollout" for a new record, or whatever. I don't know, I don't check MySpace.

She's a bit of a throwback, Mazzy Star fading into Sheryl Crow, with vocals many have likened to Dolores O'Riordan. She cites influences from 70's folk classics, to 90s soft rock, to the indie pop of today.
