"The Ethereal Tapes" is a sideproject emerging from the intersections between noise, shoegaze and synthesier based music.

The combination of acoustic drums, analog synthesizers and digital pianos all coated in noise and distortion creates an odd melancholy, inviting the listener to an emotional journey.

When these cycles and this linear march entwine and lose any semblance of mutual control, their inexorable trajectory is towards rupture. Emergent cycles of higher complexity and abstracted alienness to those of us subjected to them exacerbate the very dynamic from which they were borne, but offer the only way out: fracture.

This EP was entirely written and recorded in the cable kingdom of bleeps and bloops in the city of Sofia, Bulgaria during their tradition of Martenitsa. While Ivan Shopov was working on his project Kanatitsa with Avigeya, Valance Drakes was into a rookie year for Amek, working on the collab LP with Ivan and working on his debut album for the label (An Angel In Alliance With Falsehood).

"I can relate entirely to the concept of the Nectar mix series, for me music has always been about pushing boundaries and evoking emotion, which has helped me build up a pretty eclectic taste over the years. When I first saw the Nectar series starting, I knew immediately what I wanted to do for mine. So I contacted Pollination and told them my idea, over the course of the last few months I've acquired and selected my favorite cues and themes from film (and two from television), not only are these sonically and audibly my favorites, but they are intense and emotionally impactful as well. In this mix we will move from unsettling atonal drones and sharp textures, to emotional and melancholic themes of despair and love, ultimately culminating with, what are in my opinion, two of the best themes ever written for cinema. I cannot express enough gratitude towards Pollination for allowing me to work with them on this, and I hope you all enjoy this podcast.
