TOM ABDOW is an American Folk Rock singer and songwriter, born and raised in New England in the United States of America.  His interest in music began as a young child, though he never had any formal music training. This self-taught singer and songwriter enrolled in what he calls "The College of Musical Knowledge" (after a song lyric he heard) and began his "studies" by listening to every kind of music that was played on the burgeoning FM radio stations (and earlier the AM radio in the 4th Grade during the Beatles Invasion) all throughout the 60's and 70's, singing along, "managing" groups locally and learning to beat a mean drum on his best friend's Ludwig's during High School. He then rapidly progressed to singing, entered talent shows backed by excellently talented good friends, and sometimes won first place. Later, with his last paycheck from a retail sales position which was a "no where" gig, he bought his first acoustic guitar.  More concerned with the looks of the "guit-box" he struggled with its unbelievable high action and propensity for always being out of tune, and learned to sing and play some of the best folk of the 60's and 70's.  He "graduated" into live performing at coffeehouses, niteclubs and festivals while serving in the United States Coast Guard and played such memorable venues as The Cape Island Festival of Folk Music & Crafts the Carroll Villa Coffeehouse in Cape May NJ, The Mountain Top Inn near Killington Mountain VT,  The WIldcat Inn and Tavern in the Mt. Washington, NH valley area and the well know, well loved and now greatly missed RUSTY NAIL INN in Sunderland, MA.  He also performed "openers" for then touring and national recording artists Jonathan Edwards, Aztec Two-Step, Steve Forbert and Vassar Clements, with larger outdoor shows throughout New England, including some produced by Norm Lafoe, and the Springfield Mayor's Office of Cultural and Community Affairs. He appeared on local cable television Arts and Entertainment features like "Folklore" produced by Carl Montefusco originating in  Longmeadow, MA and "Out and About" on the regional Public Television affiliate, Channel 57.  His current endeavors include singing and songwriting, but finally getting ready to record some serious original music, hopefully jump into touring coffeehouses and festivals, and generally making "a lot of good noises".   Tom Abdow has been described by fellow musicians as "A man with a guitar and stories to tell" and the "kind of guy who could sell you the shirt off your own back, but is more likely to give you the shirt off of his".
