Gathered Between is Dday One’s fifth studio album in ten years, a lost chapter from his discography unearthed through an exercise in memory. 

The tracks on Gathered Between were originally recorded after Dday One’s second album, Heavy Migration. But a hard drive failure took the album away, leaving only a handful of tracks that were released on rare and now out-of-print compilations. In early 2015, while listening to a rough demo of the album, Dday decided to reconstruct Gathered Between using memory as his only guide. 

Dday dug through his crates to relocated samples and, using classic samplers and various other technology, reprogrammed the album beat by beat like an audio archaeologist. As a result, Gathered Between expands the language of classic hip-hop production in the same spirit as the greats of the genre. 

Gathered Between offers a captivating instrumental hip-hop journey across ten tracks. As with previous releases, the crackle of vinyl sits next to melancholic horn melodies and piano licks, fingered bass dances across breaks, and disembodied voices give the slightest hint of the author’s opinions. Built from hundreds of samples, the music is a tapestry of pasts on which the listener is invited to write their own memories and hopes for the future. Starting off with a bang, ‘One Another’, a tune of unification, brings to mind hints of classic Pete Rock production, the crunchy drums and bubbling stabs of ‘Alchemy Loop’ are reminiscent of golden era aesthetics but move beyond. The album is held together by the same attention to detail and intricate sample layering that has defined Dday One’s work to date.

"NOWADAYS The Beatstrumental Version", as the name suggests, is the instrumental version of "NOWADAYS The Mixtape" (released in spring 2015, available on cassette & free download). The mixtape is the fruit of Fritz' work revisiting some classic US Hip Hop paired with instrumental beats and exclusive tracks such as "BLAST!" with Audessey,"ALLEY OOP" with Fisto & Dj P, "LE VIDE" with [dajzœski] aka Dyzberg, "NOWADAYS" or "LET'S DANCE".

As a recent Red Bull Music Academy alum and an accomplished keyboardist from the Netherlands, Niels Broos has worked with a level of tenacity and openness that’s created many fruitful opportunities. This holds true yet again in 2017, signing with Los Angeles based indie label Alpha Pup Records for the release of the Niels Broos EP. Scheduled to drop on digital platforms February 24, 2017, the new album serves as his first solo title and collects music recorded over the last two years. The writing process initiated in the beginning of 2015 after relocating to the city of Utrecht, serving as the score to a transitional and important time of his life. He also brought along Brainfeeder’s Jameszoo for these recordings, adding to the body of work they laid out on Jameszoo’s debut album Fool. 

The Niels Broos EP is made of four intricately constructed voyages into the electronic spectrum, pushing experimental boundaries with taste and beauty intact. The entire works sprawl with an endless array of sound to process in both harmonic and rhythmic terms, hinting towards many roads of the past, present and future. Sheets of colorfully drawn out synths are found in every seam possible, showcasing how detail oriented he is as a songwriter. There’s something new to find on every spin, suitable for the headphone experience to unleash the full range of layering within.  

When analyzing the creative and technical aspects of the Niels Broos EP, one has to take a step back and understand his past and upbringing. Harnessing his skills on the keys since the age of four and wrapping his mind around the canon of jazz legends such as Miles Davis and John Coltrane, innovators of this era such as Dorian Concept, Dimlite and Flying Lotus also became an important component to his self discovery as a musician. Add in a deep understanding of music theory and the art of improvisation, he’s able to traverse into the fullest language of his instruments capabilities. Even when Niels’ sound stretches to textures of the beyond, he’s still able to latch onto forward progression and balanced spacing.

Niels Broos is beginning to carve out a chunk of space in the non-mainstream arenas of music culture found within the Netherlands, carrying the torch with artists such as Jameszoo, The Kyteman Orchestra and Arts The Beatdoctor. Now it’s his time to fully shine with the initiation of his own solo content and the Niels Broos EP is a breathtaking launch in that name.

2009 saw the international release of HIGH WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM, the debut by Carlos Niño & Friends. It was a record that featured, what Niño refers to as, "collage compostions." He used material from recording sessions and live concerts by his other ensembles, including Build An Ark and The Life Force Trio, as sound source for songs. He would then work with various collaborators on developing the pieces . . .

In front of you is the new record by Carlos Niño & Friends, entitled AQUARIUSSSSSSS. This project finds Niño back to work, sampling, looping, editing, and processing recordings he's made of himself playing various instruments, and recordings of ensembles that he leads. The feel is more ambient and new age than the first, and plays like a soundtrack to a film of psychedelic visual music, for exploration, reflection, meditation and relaxation.

Flashback. At the turn of the first decade of 2000, a stray cat from the Parisian suburbs named Fritz came to skin the bling bling of the time by imposing his claw on the scene of international indie rap. With Slow Down and On & On a series of EPs on 7’ in an ultra-efficient jazzy manifesto, the beatmaker earned his stripes with class and insolence. Since then, the path of the Paris’ tom cat is built over his experiences and meetings, including the album Beats Per Minute in duet with rapper Audessey (Soundsci), released on the prestigious American label Slice Of Spice (Lord Finesse, Marco Polo...). One will not need more to register the legend of ACCF on the pantheon of the most talented French producers of international underground Hip Hop and confirm the adage that cats control the world.
In 2015, Fritz decides to condense his night wanderings in his first album Tribulations & Life of, an album anchored in his time, made in the moment and with instinct. A few years later, crowned by a signature at the legendary German label HHV, Fritz continues to drag his feline silhouette to the four corners of the globe. So that listening to his latest album Vertical Iris gives the pleasant sensation of moving forward Stealthily in known terrain as on a new land to clear.
Addictive samples, raw and rough tones nuanced from the blue notes of the 90’s rap punctuated by cinematographic atmospheres, the same flawless recipe applied since its beginnings, is here reinforced by a slew of hand-picked featurings such as Black Josh (UK), Audessey (US), Sach (The Nonce / US), Glad2mecha (US), LayFullStop (UK) ...

En 2015 Fritz décide de condenser ses errances nocturnes dans son premier album Tribulations & Life of, un album ancré dans son époque, fait dans l’instant et avec instinct. Quelques années plus tard, auréolé d’une signature chez le mythique label allemand HHV, Fritz continue de trainer sa silhouette féline aux quatre coins du globe. Si bien que l’écoute de son dernier opus Vertical Iris donne l’agréable sensation d’avancer à pas de velours en terrain connu comme sur une terre nouvelle à défricher.
