The dynamic new collection is built around previously unheard tracks created by Illa J’s brother: the late, great J Dilla (James Yancey). With Frank Nitt’s standing as J Dilla Music Catalog Curator and the official approval of Yancey Media Group, all productions on Sunset Blvd originate from The Lost Scrolls — the stunning cache of beats Dilla left behind.

With its rapturous single “Quicksand” featuring Common, Sunset Blvd also teams Yancey Boys with De La Soul’s Posdnuos (“Beautiful”), The Pharcyde’s SlimKid3 (“Rock My World”), and T3 of Slum Village (“Jeep Volume”), making it clear that the Dilla legacy is being represented by those who knew and collaborated with Dilla in his lifetime. Additional guests on Sunset Blvd include DJs Rhettmatic, C-Minus, and JRocc (Beat Junkies) as well as rap roughneck Guilty Simpson and R&B strongman Eric Roberson. “We’ve created an album that would make Dilla proud,” says Frank Nitt, who grew up with Dilla in Detroit. “But this isn’t a nostalgia trip: Dilla’s beats were so future-forward that they’re right on time in 2013, and we’ve assembled the best artists possible to represent that.”

Back in 2012 we released a Signature Sevens series of vinyl with Lord Finesse. There were 3 Volumes to the series (including a bonus record), and each was pressed on double 7 inch vinyl, and presented in stunning gatefold jackets.

This is Volume 3, featured newly remastered Finesse gold era classics, including the instrumental versions for the first time. We also teamed up with legendary D.I.T.C. artist and designer, Eric Orr, who came up with the most incredible cover art for the gatefold.

Both tracks are produced by Lord Finesse, and the flip side features Page The Hand Grenade. Mixed by legendary D.I.T.C. studio engineer Chris Conway, and mastered for vinyl by K-Def...this limited edition release is not to be missed!

We actually first threw around the idea of me doing a remix at Shambhala this year when I was hanging out with Steve. He played me a few tracks off of his phone to see what I thought and when a track sounds good coming out of the speaker of a phone, you know it's gunna be even better on some real speakers haha!

From rocking it at Red Rocks opening for the Thievery Corporation live band to playing Lightning In A Bottle, What The Festival, Sonic Bloom, Shambhala, Bass Coast, Raindance, and Wakarusa, we can easily say that Fort Knox Five have had a very busy year – both in the clubs and out on the festival circuit. In fact, it was at the 2009 Earthdance Festival in Laytonville, California that the group was introduced to the Crown City Rockers and vocalist Raashan Ahmad. A connection was made and a promise was spoken to collaborate. Fast forward five years to 2014 and we find Raashan adding his distinctive vocals to “Ready Go”, the first new Fort Knox Five material we’ve heard in years.

Raashan Ahmad’s high-energy party rocking lyrics are the perfect match for Fort Knox Five’s distinctive funk stylings. The lyric “I live for the funk, I die for the funk, from the days of the Humpty Hump to the future” sums up this tune perfectly as it blends retro g-funk vibes from the West Coast with electronic dancefloor funk from the Nation’s Capital. True to form, Fort Knox Five incorporate horns and funky guitar lines throughout, so that “Ready Go” emerges as a disco-funk dance floor jam. Fort Knox Five got two of their favorite Vancouver-based producers to remix the track, Slynk and Neighbour. Slynk, originally from Australia, incorporates bass heavy glitch hop effects to create a blazing funk monster. Home Breakin’ Records own Neighbour takes the track in a different direction, the end result being a spandex-smooth indie disco banger.

This release is primed for the dancefloor, ranging in sounds from chunked out disco funk to glitch hop grooves and indie disco. This is the first single for Fort Knox Five’s forthcoming new album, due out in 2015. After spending the last few years concentrating on remixing other artists and showcasing the amazing talent on their label Fort Knox Recordings, the group has rechanneled their energy back to creating original material collaborating with a wide array of new guest vocalists.

Flashback. At the turn of the first decade of 2000, a stray cat from the Parisian suburbs named Fritz came to skin the bling bling of the time by imposing his claw on the scene of international indie rap. With Slow Down and On & On a series of EPs on 7’ in an ultra-efficient jazzy manifesto, the beatmaker earned his stripes with class and insolence. Since then, the path of the Paris’ tom cat is built over his experiences and meetings, including the album Beats Per Minute in duet with rapper Audessey (Soundsci), released on the prestigious American label Slice Of Spice (Lord Finesse, Marco Polo...). One will not need more to register the legend of ACCF on the pantheon of the most talented French producers of international underground Hip Hop and confirm the adage that cats control the world.
In 2015, Fritz decides to condense his night wanderings in his first album Tribulations & Life of, an album anchored in his time, made in the moment and with instinct. A few years later, crowned by a signature at the legendary German label HHV, Fritz continues to drag his feline silhouette to the four corners of the globe. So that listening to his latest album Vertical Iris gives the pleasant sensation of moving forward Stealthily in known terrain as on a new land to clear.
Addictive samples, raw and rough tones nuanced from the blue notes of the 90’s rap punctuated by cinematographic atmospheres, the same flawless recipe applied since its beginnings, is here reinforced by a slew of hand-picked featurings such as Black Josh (UK), Audessey (US), Sach (The Nonce / US), Glad2mecha (US), LayFullStop (UK) ...

Quelques années plus tard, auréolé d’une signature chez le mythique label allemand HHV, Fritz continue de trainer sa silhouette féline aux quatre coins du globe. Si bien que l’écoute de son dernier opus Vertical Iris donne l’agréable sensation d’avancer à pas de velours en terrain connu comme sur une terre nouvelle à défricher.
